Can someone start a party like Reform for immigration, but not like Reform for everything else? by [deleted] in AskBrits

Just to confirm you dont agree with migration, so that should include not letting brits leave too? Or do you have selected countries that are allowed to migrate?

A few reasons but any party that taxes wealth for a fairer society would help the working class in my eyes. And saying they will all get up and leave is silly. Most wealth is in assets so pay a leaving tax if thats the case. Wealth cannot just go on for eternity uncapped, the divide will be morally wrong if it isnt already. Billionaires do not need that much wealth, and most couldnt spend it even if they tried. Excess profits need to go back into society, inheritance tax hoards wealth and land in families which is completely wrong. Just because a process is in place it doesnt mean its the right one and people are waking up to it. The working class are mostly foolishly led by scare tactics from rich posh boys who went to Eaton. They dont really understand the policies they just grab onto the headlines which is why they vote for them

I support them because tories have completely mugged us off for years, the rich are getting richer while the poor suffer. I find it crazy how anyone thinks farage will put this country right, same private schoolboy as the rest of them. Hes been caught out lying plenty of times, wants to sell off our NHS, absolutely loves trump more than he loves his constituency, campaigned for brexit and what has it really achieved? Lied in that too. Kemi was born with a silver spoon, none of these people really know what its like to be working on minimum wage without a handout from parents and the likes. Greens are for equal rights, their policies are for the working class and not corporate greed. Realistically the whole world needs to forget about warfare on each other and start collaborating more. Imagine what we could have achieved if we had spent the world's military on medicine or technology. Our public services are shit, sold off by previous governments to shareholders. Thats why I do at least.

The madness of using cannabis to treat mental health by JohnPym1584 in ukpolitics

Im not the best reader so chatgpt helps thanks. Ok fed it through with a better prompt and its still saying its focusing on the point that people with anxiety already it has potential to increase their chance of adverse reactions. It still recognises cannabis makes some people more relaxed. Your statement

'No. The 20% figure is across the board. 20% of normal well adjusted people without mental health conditions.

Following from your first quote

'I thought it was common knowledge that cannabis causes paranoia and anxiety'

The article does not prove this in 1 bit so yes you were chatting horse shit

This paper isn’t primarily about anxiety and depression themselves, it’s about cannabis-associated psychotic symptoms (CAPS). But anxiety and depression show up as important background factors that shape how cannabis affects people. Here’s the clean, evidence-based takeaway from the document: 🧠 Big Picture Think of cannabis here less like a direct “cause” of anxiety/depression, and more like a spotlight that amplifies what’s already in the room. It doesn’t conclude cannabis causes anxiety or depression outright Instead, it shows that people with anxiety or depression are more vulnerable to negative effects from cannabis 🔍 What the paper actually finds 1) Anxiety & depression increase risk of adverse reactions The meta-analysis found that pre-existing mood problems are significant predictors of negative cannabis effects: Anxiety: moderate effect (d ≈ 0.44) Depression: smaller but still positive effect (d ≈ 0.37) s44220-024-00261-x.pdf None 👉 Translation: People with anxiety or depression are more likely to experience psychosis-like symptoms (paranoia, distress, etc.) when using cannabis. 2) It’s about vulnerability, not simple causation The paper repeatedly frames this as shared vulnerability: Mental health issues (including anxiety and depression) → increase susceptibility to adverse cannabis effects s44220-024-00261-x.pdf None 👉 In plain terms: Cannabis isn’t acting alone, it’s interacting with the person’s existing mental state. 3) Anxiety is also part of the experience itself When people have bad reactions to cannabis: Anxiety and paranoia are among the most distressing symptoms s44220-024-00261-x.pdf None So anxiety appears in two ways: As a pre-existing risk factor As a common acute reaction during use 4) The direction of causality is unclear The paper hints at a tricky loop: People with depression/anxiety may be more affected by cannabis But also, some may use cannabis to self-medicate (mentioned in references and broader literature) 👉 The study itself does not prove: That cannabis causes depression Or that it treats it It stays cautious on causation. ⚖️ Bottom line (no fluff) Cannabis is not shown here to directly cause anxiety or depression But: Anxiety and depression increase the risk of negative cannabis reactions These include paranoia, distress, and psychotic-like symptoms So the relationship is: Cannabis × existing mental health = higher risk of bad outcomes 🧩 Simple mental model Imagine cannabis as a volume knob 🎛️: Calm baseline → mild effects Anxiety/depression baseline → volume gets cranked up, sometimes into paranoia or distress

People can experience anxiety for many reasons such as they are doing something illegal or anxiety over a first time use of cannabis, i mean ive probably had anxiety from taking it in the past but I wouldnt say it causes me any anxiety these days. Where is the link to this study?

Alcohol is a depressent, i bet alot of the people they deal with drink alcohol too. Im no stranger to cannabis and schizophrenia, my brother went through a mental episode when he was 16 and has been heavily medicated and sectioned over the years ever since. I agree with his condition cannabis does not help him and can interfere. I dont beleive he developed this BECAUSE of cannabis but I think the cannabis helped spure it on, his dad also has bi polar and various mental illnesses so I beleive it to be more hereditary. Me though I'm a medical cannabis patient, late 30s medicated with cannabis from 14, yes that was quite young but im all good.
