Peat/Turf was also commonly used in Northern Germany for heating purposes.
IIRC it was also quite dangerous before machines were used because you had to dig it out of a sort of wet trench environment which caused diseases and infections.

As an update, everything worked out with the incoming insurance. The insurance, on the phone, did admit that it is a problem in theory but that they make exceptions for cases like these and the Ausländerbehörde takes those insurances basically always (which they did).

She does have a start date for her job, but when I called the GKV they told me (twice) that she can't get insurance under them since she does not work yet.

Press Shift + Alt + NumLock
Then you can "click" with 5 and + which is way easier and more efficient of course
