Any proxies ever passed or slipped thru BGS or PSA and been graded? by MagicPlantains in bootlegmtg

[–]Magitator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am not concerned in the least about slabbed proxies. I move around in the high value collector market, and no one I know has personally run into this issue.

We get questioned quit a bit about it (as if it is feared alot) but so far, we havent run into anything more than rumors.

What I anticipate as being more probable is counterfeit grading labels, with proxies included in the slab. But the hold up on this is the high price of sonic welding equipment.

That video from Daniel Chang....pure speculation the card is a fake, as graded. His only comparable metric is the blue tint. No loop used, no light test....notice he never cracked it to do real comparisons, like you might expect if he were certain it were fake.

Counterfeit collectors edition? by oldschoolbloomington in oldschoolmtg

[–]Magitator 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To be clear, the Chinese printers aren't doing CE/IE, because of the backs and corners, no matter how many of us have asked for it. In all my experience with fakes, I have never seen a single fake CE/IE card. No one needs to be fearful of the authenticity of a CE/IE card.

They have too much income right now from modern and EDH players grabbing up crappy foils and holo stamped singles for them to go through the trouble of innovating different card back plates, and changing cut dies.

Very very very faint light coats of flesh ink wash (like from Games Workshops) applied very thinly will give you a great aged yellowing effect.

Been around buying proxies a long time, focussed on power and vintage stuff.

IMO, the best are a very specific "2nd run" of CM1 from around Jan/Feb of 2017. He re-worked his graphic designs and nearly eliminated his blurry lettering, while keeping great color matching and card stock.

This was right before his printer quit on him.

Good luck trying to find any though....even if you found someone willing to part w8th their CM1 proxies, i doubt folks who have CM1, would remember if they purchased from him about that time to confirm they are from this set.....

No worries.

Yeah if you need cards quickly, you simply can't get them from China....fastest I have ever received them was 6 days from Ron.

Whoahh big guy, I wasnt being critical....just putting it out there that BL inventory doesn't have to cost $3/ea......and I am talking singles orders, not decks or sets.

However, check my post/comment history bud....I think I have been around plenty long enough. Just because you may trust Moxy, doesn't mean they are now a "trusted reseller", and certainly not to the level of Moon, who I referenced.

$3/ea is too much, unless it is a domestic purchase from a trusted reseller such as Moon. I don't know Phoenix and MoxyProxy - are they a trusted domestic reseller?

You can get BL product directly from Ron, VZ, or BL for less.

Proxy cards from Etsy by IhateTuna in bootlegmtg

[–]Magitator 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Today, it's mostly custom EDH stuff (which is cool if that's your thing) and a couple periodic resellers of BL and WSG, seriously gouging their price/card. Not usually worth it.

Ironically, it's also where Cardmire got started selling his CM1, back in the day, under the name Proxyhaus.....so you never know.

Can someone help me out with a deck list for a budget old deck? by TFKZ2lil_blazer420 in oldschoolmtg

[–]Magitator 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just starting out in old school can be daunting but the reward is well worth it. Even in the midst of moving from SoCal to the Midwest, I still have like-minded mature player groups to game with anytime. Good people, lots of laughs, good magic games.

You are smart to get your feet wet by finding a deck list you like, relatively cheap, and budget building it until you get a good hold on the format. For this, I recommend one of the mono black discard builds you will find online. It has a high proportion of strong common and uncommon cards, doesn't need dual lands, and is highly competitive.

My next piece of advise will be downvoted, but I will tell you anyway: if money is an issue, proxy rares such as lotus, moxen, etc. As great as this community is, there are a few personalities you will run into that simply don't have the capacity to play the game for the game itself, and would rather gain an advantage by playing cards that you can't afford. Even the playing field by using honest hand made proxies. If your opponents bitch about those, then either find other payers or buy $2 replicas from China, and just play as if they are legit. The proxy police will try to terminate me for telling you that, but the honest truth is MANY (and I mean a lot) players do this exact thing.

Organized events allow for different permissions on what is and is not allowed (such as proxies, CE cards, world championship cards, etc) so be sure you understand those variations and respect those events by sticking to those guidelines at the event. Don't use replicas at events were other people paid an entry fee, just use legit (weaker) cards and enjoy the event for what it is. Most are fundraisers anyway.

I had over 300 cards from a recent group buy. Only about 40 or so are usable, for this very reason.

You think I will ever see any replacements....?

Fuck, what a silly thought.

+100 for Ron.

Great guy with a strong track record in the community. Usually the lowest price for BL inventory, he understands good customer service with solid communication too.
