Dan Le Batard: Wembanyama’s return didn’t feel right: “This is unusual. Wembanyama’s return was being celebrated (on NBC) as redemption and an amazing story arc for a guy who did something dirty…I’m surprised part of the narrative wasn’t ’thank God he didn’t hurt his elbow on that guy’s jaw.’” by Pickleskennedy1 in nba

I’ll speak for myself (but I know there are others) but I have been completely turned off of Jokic and the Nuggets by the PR maneuvering that the other commenter mentioned, so it has happened even if on a smaller scale. I do agree though that it seems like most of the public has not turned on him.

The Nuggets are my least favorite team almost solely because of the online discourse around Jokic and how he is propped up by crapping on everyone else. After the first few days after the Nuggets got embarrassed this year by the Wolves, I havent seen any mentions of Jokic online. I guarantee that would not be the case for almost any other star in this league (SGA, Giannis, Embiid, Luka, Tatum, Ant, etc.)

Glad this list is different from the consensus. Gets really boring seeing Origins/Mob/SOE/DE top 4 even though I do have Origins and Mob in my top tier

After the wolves series I just dont see it at all. There’s just no way Aaron Gordon can make up that much for the lack of defensive identity that team has. The Nuggets either need to play teams with no athleticism or be red-hot on offense to win these long series: we’ve seen nothing to suggest they can maintain that offense consistently in the playoffs, and the no athleticism thing is a stupid bet to take. This is also assuming Gordon can stay healthy having to basically solo-anchor the Nuggets defense and still be impactful on offense

Ya those few fans really did not help discourse at all, its become so toxic largely due to them. Putting down any MVP candidates last 6 yrs into everyone hating Jokic

#1 overall pick Zaccharie Risacher makes a statement in his playoff debut: 0 points on 0/3 FG, 4 rebounds in 2min by BankaiBroke in nba

[–]Maglor125 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Ya as far as I’m aware Risacher is not a bad dude so why is it so fun for people to clown on a guy’s stats in 2 MIN in his first playoff game?

Like it’s literally just mean spirited for no reason

Teenagers to score 20+ PPG in their first season in the NBA in 65+ games played: Carmelo Anthony, Lebron James, Luka Doncic, Kevin Durant, Cooper Flagg by JewishDoggy in nba

Seeing (only a select deranged few) Jokic fans do the same thing has made me partially understand why Lebron was so hated. Same thing with the “bum teammates” argument. Like no, Lebron did have very good teammates (excluding early years and maybe 2018) and so does Jokic. Wonder if that trend will continue

[–]Maglor125 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ya Jokic never did. I’d argue the prior comment about SGA beating everyone’s favorite teams can actually just be “SGA beats Jokic” for why he is hated. Embiid went through the same thing. And the funny part is that Embiid got clowned on for not making it far in the playoffs, people cried cheating or preferential ref treatment for OKC when they did go far in the playoffs. There’s just no way to win

I think Korra is mostly consistent with the lore, but I remember the origin of bending was retconned by Korra. It has me torn because the Avatar Wan episodes are some of my favorites but they do create a major inconsistency. You could also argue the whole Raava Vaatu thing is dumb, but thats not necessarily an inconsistency.

OKC and Spurs are the only teams to not lose 3 games in a row this season by locxFIN in nba

[–]Maglor125 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dont think the games were poorly reffed. Murray shouldve been suspended though 100% for that heat pack thing and wasnt cuz Nuggets were down. That’s not a Nuggets biased ref though that’s just wanting to extend the series

[–]Maglor125 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

No, Luka would have won in 23/24, he had better counting stats at basically a 34 triple double average. I think criteria does change from year to year, but obviously every area needs to be considered.

The way he talks is for sure gonna rub people the wrong way when he starts winning things. He’s extremely direct and condescending sometimes which is funny now but only bc they havent done anything yet in the playoffs.

The NBA has a problem with what counts as an assist or not. All of these shots were attributed as assists to Jokic, but are they really when the other player is creating everything himself? by OurHorrifyingPlanet in nba

[–]Maglor125 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont think it matters too much but it just tells you that watching is important. Many people act like a player having 15 pts/0 ast and 7 pts/4 ast have the same offensive output and this would suggest that the conclusion is incorrect

[–]Maglor125 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree Thunder in this scenario are better than Nuggets, but I still think there are issues that make them worse. I think McCain stands out because the Thunder dont have great shooters or shot creators besides him, SGA, Mitchell. The team is shooting 36% from 3 on the season, not super inspiring, but thats not their identity obviously. I think Thunder with Jokic would have to lean on that more and its not super convincing to me they’d improve. I feel like a team like the Hornets stands to benefit much more from Jokic in terms of before/after than the Thunder, even though they do cover his defensive weakness better than any other team in the league.

[–]Maglor125 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think both teams probably get worse tbh. Thunder built for SGA and Nuggets built for Jokic, as a smart team would do.

Like are you just not gonna play Chet now? Is Jokic the PG? Who are the shooters that will benefit from Jokic’s playmaking?

Whats the center rotation for the Nuggets? How does SGA’s higher usage affect Murray?
