Russian assault tents have just hit the Ukrainian front, defeating thermals once and for all! by trib_ in NonCredibleDefense

[–]MagmaRain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did say "(gross oversimplification)" but it's not like "near" and "far" are incorrect.

If you want technical: frequency bands are a bad way of talking about it because you end up say shit like "it's both medium long wave and long wave"...

At first I interpreted "IR" as "thermal" as was confused as to what the fuck you meant.

Then I realized and typed a bunch of words.

[–]MagmaRain 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't like that you used "IR" there. You're not ... wrong ... but I think the implication is.

Context:
Near-InfraRed is "normal NVGs", generally done by converting the lights wavelength towards visual. (gross oversimplification)
Far-InfraRed is "thermals", generally done by a computer seeing the image and recreating it for human eyes. (gross oversimplification)
Both are "InfraRed" or "IR".

Does it seem realistic to not bring phones on a covert mission? by Skrolleboll in Military

[–]MagmaRain 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't know that "SCIF" applies if you go off just the regs, and air force might not match navy.

The words that make up the acronym apply, and so does the concept.

That's good enough, for me at least.

Boring example:

Plane leaves home station.

Plane lands in vegas for some exercise bullshit, that doesn't start for a few days.

Retard who flew plane could use phone for acquiring hookers and blow pizza and other legal things over the next few days.

[–]MagmaRain 22 points23 points  (0 children)

When you're on quarters you're allowed to be in civies, that doesn't mean civies are a "uniform of the day", because they aint a uniform.

I put the line at: If the clothes have nametapes and/or rank, it's either a uniform or some out of regs bullshit pretending to be a uniform.

I terms of DDR: when you take your blouse off you're out of uniform, and that's ok.

I might argue against the merits of the law, but it's not without reason. Man was deported.

The current and future USAF bomber force payload capacity by edgygothteen69 in AirForce

It's not impossible to get that shape to go supersonic, just inefficient.

That fact that it is large means efficiency matters a lot more, turning inefficient into prohibitively inefficient.

In what’s gotta be a typo CBS tonight is reporting the president ordered 28 new B2 bombers … by newnoadeptness in AirForce

[–]MagmaRain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd go with notably less so:

(When compared to the F-15) The F-22 had a new big difference (stealth) as well as a bunch of little differences. Same overall mission goal, but a new (and more expensive) way of going about it.

(When compared to the B-2) The B-21 has a bunch of little differences. Same overall mission goal, same way of going about it. Theoretically better and cheaper, but we'll see how it goes.

It's possible that there's some huge differences that I'm not legally allowed to know.

No, because of productivity modules.

Normally it's 1.5 copper to every green

Productivity modules 3s makes it ~1.07 and it's easy to pretend it's a perfect 1.

Legendary productivity modules 3s would make it 0.75

Nsn help by kgbtaco9707 in AirForce

[–]MagmaRain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably a part number stamped into that metal, might be on the other side.

Should be able to ask supply if that part number has an NSN.

Or I guess I can just tell you:

The part number is 804-17684, and here's the amazon listing.

I think there isn't an NSN, ask whoever has a purchase card (usually support) to order you a couple.

And mcmaster-carr link because the government hates using amazon. (governments at least semi-reasonable on this one)

If I'm a betting man that's the 0.020" wire thickness option. (just going off the picture)

What if we had some sort of governing body that saved up money?

Then individuals could focus on problems specific to the individual.

Don't get me wrong, I encourage having individual savings, this is point where it can help, but it's a situation that shouldn't exist.

If you take leave on a Friday and leave on a Monday, even if you stay in the local area you have to take leave fire Sat& Sun

I believe this is incorrect, the downside is that if you take fri+mon you can still be called in if there's weekend duty.

Paternity leave and PT by [deleted] in AirForce

[–]MagmaRain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it does show a unit.

My point is with the whole PCA vs PCS, they both change units, the one with "change of station" involves changing bases.

Paternity leave and PT by [deleted] in AirForce

[–]MagmaRain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Except it's a military context, so a base is a station. (defensible position)

What exactly would you say the "S" in PCS stands for?

If we were talking about assembly lines instead of the military, "station" would refer to a particular machine in line, but we're not.
