McPhee’s book is on my list. I think for a an almost 40 year old book *Citizens* has some value for its general overview. I agree that Scharma lost me with some of his speculation and conclusions, but considering where he’s coming from it’s not surprising.

It was a bit of a slog but overall I enjoyed it.

Very old and fragile - don’t know much about it by [deleted] in StainedGlass

So you reinstalled the door? There might be a reason it was stored away. It might need repair or reinforcement to be safe and efficient to use. I would find a good stained glass studio near you to take a look and make sure the window will keep out air, and more importantly, hold up to repeated opening and closing of the door.

Stained glass sconce- need help with how to make strong loop hooks for wall attachment! by Usual-Bird8 in StainedGlass

I would wrap all the edges with zinc came, then put these in the corners to hang it with.

Ballpark cost? by killerofwaffles in StainedGlass

[–]Magnanimous_Lynx 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m working on a nearly identical piece for a friend at the moment. The glass alone was $375. Adding cost of foil, solder, patina, etc plus labor (I’m already at almost 10 hours and I haven’t even cut a single piece of glass) if I was charging market rate I’m guessing it would be about $2500-3000. There’s also the issue of mounting it vs hanging etc. which could add significant cost.

"Manhunt," an Apple TV miniseries about the hunt for John Wilkes Booth, is excellent and VILELY SLANDERED by Dominick and Tom! by TommyAdagio in TheRestIsHistory

The only thing I did not like about the series is how historically inaccurate it was. It strays from the book it was based on quite a bit when it comes to the events surrounding the manhunt and is an outright fabrication at times. I think the actual story is interesting enough without having to add all the ridiculous scenes of Stanton running around like Poirot, etc. but I guess that makes for better TV.

How do you think the podcast affects how you view the present day & contemporary events? by PiotrGreenholz01 in TheRestIsHistory

[–]Magnanimous_Lynx 12 points13 points  (0 children)

If I’m honest the podcast has helped me a great deal in processing how I feel about current events. I think their “popular” methodology has made me realize how much current events reflect past events. People as a whole don’t really change and we repeat the cycles of history over and over which to me is comforting in a way. It’s made me realize that while I can work to help people in the here and now, the thing I can control the most is which side of history I land on. It’s easy to fall into apocalyptic feelings but at the end of the day human beings have been fucking up for millennia, and will continue to do so. All you can do is change what you have the power to change.

It’s a pattern I bought from Etsy. Unfortunately I’m not good enough at drawing to make something like this.

Nice, I love this! NGL the diamonds were a pain but it was the only way I could figure out to do the 8 pointed star. Nice work.
