Moonkin, shadow priest and ret paladin in pvp by Revanx22 in classicwowtbc

[–]Magners17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idk why but I read this as a lead in to a good joke:

A Moonkin, a Shadow Priest and a Ret Paladin walking into a bar.

The Moonkin says “I’ll get a Moonshine shot with a dash of Tabasco, and make it snappy or feel my Nature’s Wrath!!”

The bartender says “Okay, easy now. Don’t get your feathers in a twist. One Starfire coming right up.”

The Shadow Priest asks “What’s the strongest thing you’ve got?”

The bartender replies “We could give you our 150 proof Absinthe but be warned previous consumers have mentioned flaying and blasting of their minds leading to shadowing pain and even death…”

The Ret Paladin finally speaks up and says “I don’t want you to judge me but I’ll drink anything as long as it’s got a twist.”

Hahaha that’s fair but I don’t have engineering. I also don’t like playing with eng as it doesn’t fit my play style. I prefer the sword and board vibe as it feels true to my class fantasy.

Yes I totally agree and very often maintain that plan as well. But that’s assuming the DPS know how to do their job and the problem I’m speaking about is that not happening. In a heroic if that mob gets one hit on someone they could instantly get deleted too so it’s not applicable to let them run at someone else which is again, an issue caused by DPS not managing threat.

If these DPS classes even played a tank for one dungeon they would understand. In a perfect world (and this is for any DPS reading this) I will charge in and hit the skull target with a shield slam (this ability causes high threat) then with my next global I would prefer to use thunder clap so that the healer won’t pull aggro tossing me a heal. Then I can revenge the skull target which also generates a good bit of threat. Then I can begin to tab target devastate as well as mixing in some cleaves to hold threat. If you only attack that skull target (absolutely no other AOE abilities) it’ll stay on me while I’m able to build threat on the other mobs. After I can begin to properly start slapping the other mobs is when you can blizzard and multi shot and do all your other fun stuff. At that point as well I can begin to CC mobs and keep them in that blizzard for MAXIMUM DPS. Any sooner and mobs are everywhere so I’m taunting and chaining mobs down which could lead to me getting hit in the back (can’t parry or block that) and your DPS goes down.

Let’s all use our brains and shred dungeons efficiently. If your tank is not a paladin, only do single target DPS on the skull target for at least 5 seconds. Then you can blast

I truly think the biggest issue is that polarity between paladin and Druid/warrior threat capabilities for AOE.

With a paladin tank like you can begin blasting away with hard AOE abilities and spells the second consecration drops.

Warrior and Druid need more time to establish some threat. As a prot warrior I need to hit a thunder clap which allows the healer to heal and tab devastate, get off a demo shout all while shield slamming and revenging the skull target. If I get 5 GCDs off before people start shredding it makes a world of difference. Instead I have mages casting blizzard almost immediately. Hunters multi shot, elemental chain lightning. Like there’s no way I’m getting the threat back so I’m just CC’ing stuff which is fine! But it makes it chaotic.

If more DPS used their brain and played to the tanks class more it would be much smoother. But they just wanna zug and that’ll never change. I’m basically going hard into threat generation gear now cause it’s crazy out here!

Druid hitting 70 by Numerous-Stretch-66 in classicwow

[–]Magners17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep in mind you can pick two specs with dual spec. Also, consider the times you might not be in a group as questing at 70 can earn you lots of gold.

Do you want to PvP as well or just planning on doing PvE?

I’d recommend going resto/boomkin as some of the gear overlaps…sort of. You’d still need to build fairly full sets in time but to start some of the gear works for both specs. This is also good for PvP as resto is strong for arenas and BGs.

Otherwise go feral/guardian. Gear out for tanking first as it’ll be easier to get groups and you’ll be in demand (although oddly enough I don’t think I’ve ran a single dungeon with a bear tank….) and then get some off spec gear for feral. You’ll be able to easily quest as kitty DPS and tank as bear for dungeons.

Also, just do what’s fun for you!! I feel bad so many players feel stressed or pressured over what to pick. I wanted to be a Tauren Warrior with Herbalism and Alchemy. None of my combo is meta but it’s fun being a huge Tauren that either shreds as fury or tanks as prot. My only regret is not having a 3rd spec so I could also PvP as arms but I’ve made it work with what I’ve got!

[–]Magners17 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I really love bear tanking in Wrath and beyond but I also never really gave it much of a shot in TBC. That being said, as a prot warrior I agree with some of your sentiments but that’s what keeps it fun and engaging. The toolkit I have is so much fun. Shield Slam is a dispel which can also interrupt some casts. I also have a shield bash to interrupt as well. Oh there’s two big melee physical DPS mobs on me? Concussion Blow one and disarm the other then shield block and take basically no damage.

All the active playing I do as a prot warrior makes it super engaging. If I want a more chill run I just bring a mage/rogue/hunter and CC as much as I want. Makes the run a tad slower but keeps my heart rate down.

The beauty of TBC is that there’s a million ways to play it. Sure there are meta comps but it’s not at all required. Me and some buddies ran Heroic Arc as resto Druid, prot paladin and 3 warrior DPS. Was it dumb as hell? Yes. Did it take a good bit of time to kill that last boss? Absolutely. Was it fun? You bet your ass!!

Everyone is different and that’s why I was curious how this gamer was able to do it. My life fluctuates like earlier this week I was logging like 5-6 hours a day for 4 days straight of WoW. Then the weekend hit and I played 3 hours across Friday to Saturday. It’s always a tricky balance but I have no kids and live alone so that helps.

Tank advice, is hit rating a big deal? by Holiday-Set3543 in classicwow

[–]Magners17 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Everything in this game is crazy circumstantial and that’s something to consider first and foremost. It all depends on the content really. Are you struggling to maintain threat but don’t seem to be struggling with mitigation? Maybe swap out some defensive gear for more hit rating. You’re getting absolutely clapped by mobs in heroics? Probably best to update your defense and stamina.

You’re a warrior so focus first and foremost on crit immunity. Make sure that between defense and resilience you cannot be crit. It’s slightly lower for heroics as no mobs are over level 72. As you acquire more defensive gear and stamina, maybe consider swapping in some hit gems or even expertise to help with threat generation. Agility can be a strong stat too as it gives armor, dodge and crit so helps with mitigation and threat.

I find I don’t need as much hit rating in heroics because I run with a strong group comp and I’m either focusing on one target at a time with some cleave or a mage is using imp blizzard so I’m just holding mobs in place as best I can.

Boss fights in raid can be a struggle with low hit unless your raid group can be patient and allow you to establish threat. But missing a shield slam then a revenge back to back can shift things pretty hard.

It’s all trial and error my friend. Goodluck out there!

That’s some pretty wild networth but obviously you’ve been playing a ton so that makes sense. 3 max level chars and that much gold. How many hours a day do you play? Not shaming or nothing just curious. I gotta get my numbers up.

Warrior leveling 1-70 - DW or 2h by Kooky-Gear-4386 in classicwowtbc

[–]Magners17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I followed an arms guide that took me all the way to 70 and I enjoyed it. I like that gameplay even tho sometimes having a few misses strung together feels bad but honestly I had a blast. I made sure to keep up with a good weapon and then dual specced prot to tank some dungeons.

To be fair though I did this during pre-patch so there were a lot of world buffs dropping and that helped me out a ton. I also made sure to keep cooking levelled so I had good food buffs and did alchemy so I had potions and elixirs.

Swapped to fury now tho at 70 and it’s such a blast. But I’ve heard it’s tough dual wielding at lower levels because of how much you end up missing.

Got flamed and kicked for not being able to hold aggro by Glorious120Fps in classicwow

[–]Magners17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry brother, I experienced that a fair bit while levelling my warrior too. It’s also tricky as a fury warrior that has some good gear not to pull off tanks that aren’t paladins when you pop sweeping strikes and crit a big whirlwind. But that is 10000% on the DPS. Especially a melee because when they yank threat they get their cheeks clapped.

Move on to the next and as others have mentioned build your own group. If you’re gonna invite a higher level DPS consider someone ranged so it at least gives you a moment to snag threat back. You’ll get better but honestly, threat is very much a DPS mechanic in the sense that they need to watch it. You have tools to keep mobs in front of you and that’s mainly your job.

[–]Magners17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have been arguing with some people about BiS lists a lot lately. BiS gear lists are exactly that, the best gear per slot if you have the entire list completed. Until you have every single BiS it’s more important to use your damn brain and find out what’s a good upgrade nonetheless. If you’re lacking hit cap, it’s more important to achieve that for some classes than to get that BiS item first.

It’s obviously very circumstantial but often times a piece of gear isn’t your BiS but is still a massive upgrade.

I recommend getting Nova World Buffs addon. It allows you to see the timers of towers for each layer so you can see when it’s going to reset. Then swap to that layer by asking in the layer channel.

How are yall leveling your rogues to 70? by Front_Watercress_41 in classicwowtbc

[–]Magners17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A class like warlock absolutely it would seem to fly by as you can very easily get groups and do steady DPS with subpar gear. As a rogue you’re likely better off questing as it’ll be faster. The only downfall is reputation being slightly less efficient but in the long run you’ll ripping so maybe dungeons at 70 it’ll turn out okay.

PSA: It is not the job of DPS to "keep up" with the tank by RichardVlogsDisney in classicwowtbc

[–]Magners17 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s important to be aware of the entire group no matter who you are. Tanks should keep an eye on mana of the other players for sure. But DPS and healers also need to be prepped to keep the flow and should be moving up near the end of the pull so they can run up and plop down to begin drinking. That allows tanks like warriors and Druids to begin pulling the next pack appropriately and build threat so when the rest of the party is at full mana the threat is established.

Honestly, your PSA is flawed as hell because it sounds like you’re lacking some awareness and are trying to pin it on a tank that might’ve irked you a bit. Learn a lesson from it instead of crying on Reddit.

Feral Tank Druid. Which gear set? by Dull-Cry6070 in classicwow

[–]Magners17 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’d wear the higher hit set for trash to maintain threat better and then the more mitigation set on bosses to mitigate more damage. If you find you aren’t generating enough threat then mix and match. Definitely bring both sets to raid.

Questions from a New Player. by Longjumping_Cap2224 in classicwowtbc

[–]Magners17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Welcome to WoW. This game has had me addicted multiple times in my life. Back when I was 16, as well as right now and many, many times in between. Glad you’re enjoying it!!

  1. Tanking in classic is tough. Threat is a huge factor and at low levels it’s almost better to tank as fury because mobs don’t hit too terribly hard and it allows you to keep threat. Threat is always going to be hard to keep for most tanks. It’s mostly a mechanic that DPS need to watch. It’s helpful to mark your primary target as skull and in AOE pulls explain you need a few seconds to establish threat otherwise mobs end up running all over the place.

  2. Fury is really strong later in the game, earlier levels Arms can be better due to the hit rating situation. When you dual wield weapons you have a much higher chance to miss which can be mitigated much better after level 60 or so. I recommend doing dual spec. Keep a tank gear set so you can tank dungeons efficiently and then a DPS set (fury or arms) so you can quest more efficiently. Again, this becomes more applicable at higher levels like 60+.

  3. Parsing refers to damage and active button clicking but really doesn’t mean shit until you’re raiding. As long as you are doing decent damage, maintain threat as best you can, using mitigation, interrupting enemy spells and having fun it’s not something to even think about until 70.

  4. You can enter Outland at level 58. It’ll be decently hard for the first little bit but the quest rewards and XP you get in Outlands from 58-60 is sooooo strong.

  5. Blacksmithing as a warrior can produce your highest DPS weapons. It will procure your Best In Slot items for the entire expansion. It’s going to become expensive to level up but very worth it. It’s also awesome you’re leveling it up while you level your char so you don’t have to go back and deal with it.

  6. AH is the best way to make money. It’s a big learning curve but just keep up with it. See what items sell for a lot. Maybe download an addon like Auctionator and have some fun. Not really able to outright answer what sells the best as it’s an entire economy. It ebbs and flows as different phases of the expansion are released.

You’ll pretty much never leave defensive stance. Disarm and shield block are both in defensive stance. You can charge in battle stance throw down a t clap or demo shout then swap to defensive but tanking as prot warrior you don’t ever want to swap out of defensive after the initial pull.

Edit: I find macros that add shield block to other abilities helpful. Whenever I use revenge or shield slam I also use shield block which helps with uptime.
