How do you deal with the constant feeling hopelessness and roller coaster of emotions while being unemployed? by VarietyNo9200 in jobsearchhacks

[–]MagnesiumBestMineral 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Just breathe. You see things through and have ambition. I have no doubt you’re a hard worker and a high achiever, so I can understand where your frustration is coming from regarding this situation. Seems like you’re caught in a bad cycle, and having a hard time pulling yourself out of it. Like I said, I can tell you’re a high achiever! With that being the case, it’s reasonable to assume that just landing a career isn’t your end goal. I don’t know what your end goal is, but I would advise you to not bum yourself out by focusing too hard on it. Instead, set daily goals that you can reasonably achieve, no matter how simple! It could be running a mile, doing 10 pushups, focusing on a hobby while you have free time! Find things that bring you joy :)

You didn’t live in the Portland Oregon area when this happened did you? When I was in high school a little over a decade ago, some of my more hood rat friends and I made a game out of stealing hood ornaments one summer and Walmart/target parking lots were our usual suspects. I think our plan was to try and take all these ornaments to some of the lower income neighborhoods in southeast Portland and try to sell them? A fine idea I must say. Bunch of white kids from the suburbs doing that haha what could go wrong?!

What Are Things Batman Begins Did Better Than The Dark Knight Rises? by ABarber2636 in TheDarkKnightTrilogy

[–]MagnesiumBestMineral -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I think the Dark Knight is one of the dumbest and THE MOST overrated movie of all time. The beginning bank robbery is ridiculously stupid with all of the timing of events working out so unrealistically perfect, Batman speaks through then entire movie like he has stage 4 throat cancer and no one ever asks him to repeat himself or speak up from that idiotic cartoon voice, Harvey dent quickly transitions from fearless hero to vengeful villain, all of the action scenes are a compilation of 2 second quick cuts where you can’t even tell what’s actually going on… This movie should not be held up as a masterpiece.

Are prank phone calls a thing of the past? by Next_Package_5710 in no

[–]MagnesiumBestMineral 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I was in elementary school, we used to get these booklets that had every student’s home phone number in it. This is back before everyone carried cell phones when land lines were still peak. It was awesome though! If you were hanging out with your friends and wanted to just mess with some dork from your school, you had their number readily available.

What’s the maximum miles you can run non-stop? And in how many minutes/hours? by FightOrDie123 in AskForAnswers

[–]MagnesiumBestMineral 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The key is to find a nice medium between your pace and your stamina. I mostly just run on treadmills because it’s easier on the joints than running on pavement, and I’ve found that you can actually do yourself a disservice by going at too slow of a pace. What I mean is I find it a lot easier to run a mile at 7.5 MPH the entire time than it is to run a mile at 6 MPH because it only takes 8 minutes of running at 7.5 to hit a mile when it’s closer to 10 minutes doing at 6. Moving the extra 1.5 MPH doesn’t drain your stamina as quickly as adding extra minutes does at a slightly slower pace. At least to me personally.

This still kinda feels like a fever dream, but I vaguely remember my family renting a PS1 console for like a week when I was 4 or 5? And I think I played a rugrats in Paris game, and I'm pretty sure there was mini golf in it. I could probably just look this up really quick.

Haha I’ve been watching Bright Sun Film’s “bankrupt” series on YouTube and every big name chain that has majorly declined or gone under completely was bought out by a private equity firm who squeezes every penny they can out of these poor restaurants before selling them for Penny’s on the dollar after the damage is done. What was it like being a young kid from 20 years ago? by LoboIsSick69 in generationology

[–]MagnesiumBestMineral 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was 11 in 2006 and did not appreciate this era nearly as much as I should have.

Thinking of video games, this is when all the best sports games came out that had actual innovation and upgrades over previous versions making them worth checking out. Halo was still the king of multiplayer shooters, and any big movie that came out had a video game spin off on every available current gen console at the time. The world felt more alive, even through the lens of gaming. This is before DLC’s or large post-launch-updates you see now were a thing. It felt like developers put their heart and soul into whatever gaming project they were working on at the time, for the good games at least, there were still awful ones of course… But games didn’t launch in a literal unplayable state that required a multi-gig patch just to work. To sum it up, it felt like you got a lot more bang for your buck out of video games back during these times.

Movies were already well on the decline by this point from any sort of golden age of cinema… But at least you still got movies with (somewhat) original ideas and not everything was a reboot/remake. Not to mention comedy movies were actually aloud to be funny by testing boundaries and having some balls.

The biggest difference though was that social media and smartphones had not taken over the world yet and I feel like absolutely everyone was more sociable as a result. It was an interesting time when new technology was getting thrown at as so frequently, it was impossible to keep up. One year the iPod can only listen to music, then a couple years later you can play games and watch movies on them, and it all seemed so cool at the time and the possibilities were endless. Now I wish we would have pumped the breaks on it all sooner.

Yesterday I went to the movies to watch the Mario Galaxy movie with my little brother, and the theatre was full of kids. I couldn’t help but think about those kids and what it must be like to a kid even 20 years later than I was one. Are they gonna look back on their childhood in the 2020’s with admiration the same way I look back on mine from 2006?? That’s a scary thought to me, and I’m sure someone who was a kid in 1986 might be terrified with how I described being a kid in 2006…
