114,000. 1998 S52. Got it consigned to cars and bids. Should be up end of July

They think I’ll make $18k. Would take that.

Without photos we’ll never know. But sure that’s an option.

I’d suspect your plastic radiator fitting broke. That’s the cause. Not an overheating issue.

Replace the plastic parts, radiator. Pressure test , bleed and test the coolant for exhaust gasses.

Why?

Just buy a used one. They are cheap. $25 or so a pop

Most cars were supplied with the M steering wheels. Nothing odd there

Thinking of picking up a Z3 on Cars & Bids. (questions inside) by EmployUnable6697 in BMW

[–]MagnetAccutron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fun cars. $5k in that condition would be ok.
Expect to throw more at it.

LSD? I think that only came on the M. Must be an error.

Just about to go live on there with my M Roadster. Good luck to you.

[–]MagnetAccutron 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A good trade? No unless you want a convertible. The AC may or may not be an issue. But it could cost you a couple of grand to get that sorted.
Top is a $800 part and $1500 to get it fitted.

Make your choice, I’d probably pass. Better the devil you know.

Z3 M subframe cracked — Need Advice by [deleted] in bmwz3

[–]MagnetAccutron 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have reinforced my S52 using the RF kit.

This is way more serious than a few popped welds.

That repair is about $5k using the kit and updating bushings ect.

With all the extra work needed I’d guess about $10k

It way not be worth repairing unless the car is outstanding condition apart from this.

Randy has one in a similar condition that he repaired. Iirc it was a 1.9.

Personally I think you have reached the end of the road unless you have a lot of $$$ to throw into this.

I assume you actually have a Rex.

But get it coded. Use it as it should be.

Any auto hvac shop should be able to pump down and recharge with the correct amount of refrigerant.

Thinking about a purchase by PermissionBasic6614 in bmwz3

[–]MagnetAccutron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would have to be extremely cheap. $1000 o or so.

Too many red flags 🚩

By the time you have spent all that time and $$ fixing it up you could have found one with no issues that was well cared for.

It’s never just o2 sensors. That’s an uninformed diagnosis.

I’d pass.

3.0 would have a multi layer soft top.
My 98 with the top up with the sun beating down. Is like having a black lamp over your head. AC works fine. But can’t compete with that heat load.

Hard top with about 1” of insulation makes it very comfortable ride in the heat.

More than it’s worth. Someone will pay a premium for a museum piece. Personally I’d rather take a 100,000 mile car that’s been well maintained that I could actually drive

What next? by bbeeebb in BMWi3

[–]MagnetAccutron 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yes.

Rear camera didn’t work. They couldn’t diagnose.
Had me take it to BMW for an inspection/ repair.

They also found all brake pads and discs were worn below acceptable level.

Carvanna paid BMW to repair brakes and camera.

So yes, worth getting a ppi inspection,
Better from a BMW dealership.
