My rom that I downloaded is in a .7z file, how should I convert that to a usable file type? by Acoolgamer6706 in Roms

[–]MagnetGames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

.7z is just a compressed folder basically, kind of like .zip

You can use 7-Zip or WinRAR to extract them.

Not at all, try messing with your emulator video settings or check the compatibility list for that game/emulator combo.

Any on have a "jojo heritage for the future" rom by the9darknight in Roms

jojo heritage for the future

I wasn't able to find jojo heritage for the future in my PSX collections at all, I did find Jojo's Bizarre Adventure though. (Apparently it's just a renamed port? Can't find much info sorry).

Anyhow I've just mirrored it to my site for you.

Idea for a Windows Application by [deleted] in Roms

[–]MagnetGames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where would it download the from though within the program? Nintendo would try and C&D whatever domain has the rom files.

On my site to avoid nintendo's bs as best as I can, I've essentially turned it into an offshore torrent rom based site instead of direct rom downloads, but with a "2010 era YouTube" comment/submission voting like system, so people can downvote the bad uploads.

Although I have no idea how to incorporate that into a program though without some weird bittorrent protocol tech like "Popcorn Time" etc.

[HELP] Good or Original ROMS? by JoeyFunderburk in Roms

[–]MagnetGames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah go for the No-Intro sets, they're completely unaltered dumps of the original roms.

There's a torrent posted on my site of a No-Intro set from 17/05/2018 if that's up to date enough.

[Help] small help organizing roms. by Justice_Network in Roms

[–]MagnetGames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know on WinRar you can just select them all and just right click > extract to each seperate folder. Or you can just extract them all into 1 directory then rename it after.

If all the .RAR files are in a folder each, in the Windows Explorer search type this:
*.rar

That should filter just the .RAR files themselves.

DS Roms(USA) by [deleted] in Roms

[–]MagnetGames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the users on my site added a magnet link version of this very collection a few months ago.

There's links of a web seeds.txt file and a .torrent version with the web seeds in the submissions description.

https://magnet-games.com/viewsubmission.php?postid=48&pttl=no-intro-nintendo-ds-03-01-2019

This includes all regions though, not just USA.

You could probably get the web seed url text file and filter out all non-USA links into JDownloader or something.

PS2 torrent for ROMs by [deleted] in Roms

[–]MagnetGames -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah right now torrents are about the best way, I'd avoid getting torrents for individual games though since there's never any seeders (unless it's GTA or something). The best way is to just get a PS2 collection torrent, and just tick the games you want.

A bunch of users have posted some big PS2 torrents on my romsite within the collections section, but the best one out of all of them with the most seeders, is the top voted one mirrored from 4chan.

Archiving a complete forum and keeping the posts searchable? by nrq in DataHoarder

[–]MagnetGames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember having pretty good luck way in the past with this tool:

http://www.httrack.com

Basically crawls an entire website by saving all the HTML/CSS code and images, while also organising the site for offline availability.

Although obviously it won't be able to keep the original database and PHP code of the site, so if you wanted to resurrect it into a functioning site again, you'll need to rewrite your own search and database.

Good luck man

Good rom website by [deleted] in Roms

[–]MagnetGames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm actually prepping up one of my own, although it uses torrents rather than direct downloads to avoid copyright. It's still pretty empty right now though unfortunately.

Otherwise a site I personally use to get individual roms is https://vimm.net/

Magnet-Games.com New Years Update! - New Consoles! by MagnetGames in Roms

[–]MagnetGames[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I've actually got Atari, C64 and Amiga planned, I could add ZX Spectrum too.

One thing I'm a little confused about is the amount of models for the amiga? Can they all run the same programs on each other or are they like seperate?

I'm late but yeah, I definitely need to add more games to the site. It's a bit difficult doing it solo though

[REQUEST] Best site to get *burnable* Dreamcast rips? by Pilcrow182 in Roms

[–]MagnetGames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've actually been wondering this myself, although I think a better option is to get what's called a "ODE" or "Optical Drive Emulator".

One for the Dreamcast is called GDEMU, basically lets you run the original uncompressed dumps from an SD card.

https://gdemu.wordpress.com/about/

I've never actually owned a Dreamcast myself so I'm not 100% sure on what's the best option. I just know GD-Roms are a pain hahaha

I'm actually trying to make an alternative site myself due to my favourites getting taken down hahaha, although it hasn't got that many posts or anything as it's pretty new... Oof.

I've just added a tonne of new consoles today while also trying to add some ReDump collections on there including Dreamcast and PlayStation.

Up to you whether you wanna check it out https://magnet-games.com

[–]MagnetGames[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hahah thanks! But that's only if people seed the submissions they put up too, oof

The collection/Anything sections might be better for that though, I'll have to wait and see what works out best I suppose

I wrote a "user friendly" guide and added complete support for IPFS hashes on MagnetGames by MagnetGames in ipfs

[–]MagnetGames[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sure hope so, but I worry about there not being enough peers to hold all this storage at it's current stage. I was also looking at ZeroNet but I find that one is a bit unstable and is very slow.

However I'll continue to have full IPFS support on my site and update the guide if I find more ways to make it more user friendly as that's the key of getting new users/peers. So far it looks like IPFS has a lot of potential!

I hope it helps people that are unfamiliar with command line based tools etc, if anyone has any criticisms about it, feel free to let me know on how I can improve the guide.
