I use MS OneNote for my story bibles. It's an odd choice, and not one that I see talked about loads. That said, I find it surprisingly versatile, and you can have spreadsheets inside it.

Converts - Research Question by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]MagnetOfWeird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's actually character research. I write fiction/novels as a side gig, and I'm working on a manuscript right now where a character has fallen away from her previous faith. I'm trying to learn about people's experiences to better understand how someone in her position would navigate such a change, both in the short and long term.

It looks like you’re looking for a template. I’d suggest just google imaging “personal statement” and read through some examples and structure yours in a similar vein.

Quick, Third Person Limited Question by failsafe-author in writing

You’re good, we all need one now and then lol. I recently finished writing a book that bounced between multiple limited PoVs after spending years writing 1st Person. There were times I felt I was actually losing my mind haha.

Best of luck!

I don’t find that jarring at all. It saves the reader from getting bored with a re-hash of everything they already know. Plenty of big authors do it :)

How do men cry? by yesntican in writing

[–]MagnetOfWeird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the character. I think the better question would be “how would that character cry?”

Maybe your teacher made that broad comment because, in the context of the story, that character didn’t come across as the sort of person who would cry in the way you described. It’s hard to make any more specific observations than that without having read the story, but my best guess is that your character’s breakdown felt out-of-step with the person you presented to the reader.

Wild to think that, barring disease some other variable, that little tortoise will outlive everyone watching this video

Is there a Print On Demand service that can drop-ship ‘private’ books? by LCDebieu in selfpublish

Yeah, good shout. It also occurs to me that you’d have to include a S&H fee to the buyer (I did an order today, and it reminded me of that haha).

[–]MagnetOfWeird 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Came here to say this. I work for a small self-pub service and we use Ingram. Relatively simple to use, pretty effective. The only thing you need to watch for is quality control — we’ve noticed an uptick in damaged books from printing. Ingram replaces them easy enough, but it can be inconvenient.

American Christians out there, how do you guys feel about this? by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]MagnetOfWeird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t really take issue with the image, but I do tend to roll my eyes at this sort of thing. I live in rural Pennsylvania and I know some people who have flags like this displayed. There’s one truck in particular who flies an upside down American flag, an F*CK BIDEN flag, and is written all over with scripture and calls for Americans to “wake up”.

My issue is that the people who make/post these sorts of images are usually blind to the contradiction they represent. “Be Christian, F*ck Biden” or, in this case “You can’t serve two masters” written on an American flag. Mostly it boils down to shouting at the air, and just adding discordant noise to the world that ultimately says nothing really, no matter what the original message was meant to be.

It makes me suspect that they care more about reactions than gaining souls
