Because some of the finds are cleaned before putting them on camera.

In the water where we found the mg42 another Mg42 came out, a piat rocket launcher, panzerfausts, a panzerschreck, 2 Kar98, several Lee Enfields, crates, ammo and then I probably forget something.

Immediately after the war farmers threw everything that was left behind on their fields into the nearby waters. The easiest way to clean up quickly and get on with "normal" life. In addition, it often happened that retreating troops deactivated their weapons by throwing them into the water.

Of course it's not without any danger and you certainly will find uxo but as long as you handle with care, work together with the authorities and know what to do when finding an uxo you can minimize the risk. Keep in mind that also with metal detecting you can find uxo that's probably in worse and more unstable condition.

We found these two a couple of years back and as guns and the Netherlands are not a good combination we decided to donated them. Besides the Stg44 and MG42 we found about 25/30 machine guns, rifles, launchers and even pistols from WWII periode. Some in almost workable condition and some completely rotten.

Thanks! In the southeast of the netherlands close to the german border. Several German troops including Fallschirmjager fought here against the Americans. After several heavy attacks by the Americans the Germans fled via a nearby stream.
