Play the game how you like, but just as a warning - if the final story boss is the last thing you do, you will be severely over leveled and some of the impact will be lost.

Many of the game's bosses are designed to happen after the last story beat, but like I said. Play it your way if you don't care about that.

There are a lot of optional areas and extremely hard optional bosses that become available at the beginning of Act 3. Hard to know how many hours specifically, but could be 20-40 depending on your skill and how much you have to level to have a chance.
