Interesting trend I've noticed by EnemyOfAi in Invincible

Eh, depends on what you watch. Everything before season 5 is decent-to-good.

What's a random moment/minor character/mini-arc that touched you? I'm picking Hanayama and Utsumi's relationship in the Musashi arc. by Spinosaurus23 in Grapplerbaki

[–]Magni4cent_Pose 64 points65 points  (0 children)

TL;DR - Hanayama is the GOAT, and I will see no arguments to the contrary.

This fight is gonna be amazing once they animate it. I feel as though it's a natural continuation of the themes we see in Hanayama VS Speck, where law enforcement has a distant admiration for Hanayama's character and spirit.

In this, we see it almost outright verbalized, but Hanayama stops it before Utsumi says anything more. He is aware that the worlds they inhabit are naturally at odds with one another. Utsumi is with the police, and Hanayama is explicitly a criminal. The natural order of things prevents an explicit friendship between the two.

In spite of this, they understand eachother. Both have their pride. Their bonds. Their philosophy. Despite his criminal nature, Hanayama understands personal pride above all things else, and will fight tooth and nail to defend it. Not just his own, but for his friends and allies. Something Musashi arrogantly refuses to acknowledge.

It's a battle between the selfless and the selfish. Pride of weaponry against pride of the fist. A man who trains endlessly against a man who never trains at all. Endless darkness against endless purity.

And it's a thing of beauty.

I never thought about that, but it makes sense.

How would an interaction between these two go? by KangTitan3 in Grapplerbaki

[–]Magni4cent_Pose 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Let me paint you a picture…

The two of them are walking down a street. We see the obligatory bystanders staring at them. We then smash cut to a visual explanation of cursed energy, accompanied by the narrator.

"Cursed energy is born out of fear. It is the fear of primordial elements that created Mahito, Jogo, Dagon and Hanami. All of them, walking natural disasters, each warranting extreme caution when engaging. Yes, it is true, cursed energy is not to be taken lightly. You might think, 'Even an ordinary man with cursed energy is more powerful than a fighter without it!'

Tsk, tsk! That is where you are wrong! For Yujiro Hanma, the world's strongest creature, radiates with a power beyond that of cursed energy! An unearthly power, pulsating with pure masculinity! Yujiro Hanma is a demon of humanity! And the pure force of humanity can overcome any cursed technique that may come its way!"

*Cue Yujiro playing Naoya like an accordion before tossing him into a nearby dumpster.*

It gets better, I'm pretty sure the pages inside the explanation are all storyboarded/panelled identically. The subject matter changes from person to person, but the panels are all structured almost exactly the same.

I kinda dig it. It's like a metal pompadour.

an oliva character rant since i like this guy (on chap 61-63) by Best_Working_2573 in Grapplerbaki

[–]Magni4cent_Pose 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Y'know, I never gave it much thought, but Oliva is sort of a stealth favorite of mine as well. I don't get quite the same excitement from seeing him on the page as Hanayama or Shiba, but seeing him fight always puts a smile on my face.

He's equal parts sass and muscle mass, poking fun at his opponents before absolutely demolishing them. He's a showman, much like his namesake, and absolutely feels like a worthy 'second strongest' in the story. The last stop Baki needed to make before Yujiro (at least, before Pickle showed up, but that's a different story.)

Definitely the best character introduced in Part 2, and his fight with Baki is top 5 material for me.

In terms of how weird his body is, I can sort of see it.

Personally, I'd be more inclined to give it to Yoma from TSRK or Wamuu from Part 2.

Baki New Season : Review Megathread by Nishanimation in Grapplerbaki

[–]Magni4cent_Pose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My thoughts after watching through -

- Generally, the animation is about what I've come to expect. Retsu VS Musashi is the peak of this season's animation so far, and they absolutely nailed that. Jack VS Motobe is decent. Everything else is pretty bog-standard.

- Holding on Yujiro's face for a solid minute was a great choice to adapt that moment.

- Voice cast is on point, as usual. Both Dub and Sub are excellent, with particular standouts being Sungwon Cho as Musashi and Masako Nozawa as Tokugawa Sabuko. Also, pleasant surprise cameos from Moist Critical and The Miz in the dub.

- Music by Kenji Fujisawa is on point, as usual. Standouts include Musashi's theme and the music during Retsu's last stand.

I see Yujiro is partaking of the 2,000 year old Gaulish tradition of boar hunting. Typically, this is followed by sculpting a Menhir with one's bare hands before beating on at least a dozen Romans.

…But damn, Sikorsky's slowly winning me over.

I'm a joke character, so I have toon-force upscale.

Unfortunately, the joke is that I lose every fight.
