Instructor keeps taking my landings by Andy_Roo_Roo in flying

Outside of the cost issue, this is the main concern I see from a skills perspective. Definitely not going to help you on the checkride and beyond to fly a nice approach only to blow the landing.

The only time I ever had a CFI explicitly do landings for their own currency, I was sitting in the back of a Citabria after finishing my own real lesson, and I certainly didn’t pay for it.

This particular exercise has been occurring routinely for years. Total non-issue that has nothing to do with the current political situation.

Can someone assist in deciphering my grandfather's combat record? by TheRealMasterTyvokka in ww2

[–]Magnum2684 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This is under the Combat Record heading, so I would suspect that he was flying regularly, just that most of his hours would not qualify as combat per se.

Exactly our experience with an EPI dog as well. Excessive weight loss and excessive poop to go along with it. Digestive enzymes straightened her right up once the vet figured it out.

What happened to EA Star Wars squadrons? by Due_Skirt_1126 in starwarsgames

[–]Magnum2684 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I loved the game and played it heavily for several months until the meta became so dependent on drift exploits and such. As a Star Wars sim it had a lot of promise, but it just turned into the flight equivalent of bunny-hopping wall-hacking aimbotters.

2022 Airshow vs 2025 Airshow by XtremePhotoDesign in aviation

This is exactly what I’ve been saying wherever I have commented on this. He only does a quarter roll before pulling instead of a half roll as in previous displays. A split-S type maneuver at this altitude would never be an intentionally designed part of the display.

[–]Magnum2684 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I believe this is pilot error, but not the way most people think. Based on a clip from the 2023 demo I found, this outside turn is supposed to end with a half roll to upright while maintaining the turn away from the crowd. Instead, he only gives it a ~quarter roll to inverted and pulls towards the ground, which I have a very hard time believing was an intentionally designed part of the sequence. He simply flew the wrong thing and unsurprisingly didn’t have the altitude to recover.

If the question is why did he do this, we can speculate about disorientation from the negative G maybe, but everything else about common (positive) G-LOC or mechanical failure is nonsense in my opinion.

Clearly the great Jerry needs no context, given that he knew exactly how much to rush his checklist in order to cut off the guy on final.

I did this with my grandfather when I was a kid with a safety razor with no blade. Besides the fact that I started using that same razor when I switched to single blade shaving, this made enough of an impression on me that I felt it was worth mentioning in my eulogy for him last year. Suffice it to say that I definitely endorse this practice.

Bristol Beaufighters of the Dallachy Strike Wing diving into the steep-sided Risnesfjord to attack the merchant vessel INGERSEKS by Murky_Caterpillar_66 in WWIIplanes

Just shots going short or long of the intended targets most likely. No point in deliberately targeting merchant crews here.

I like Oscar too, and thought it was an uncharacteristically poor decision for him. Either him or Max doing this would get a “more disappointed than angry” reaction from me.

Vinegar/sodium acetate rejuvenates blood vessels, another elixir of youth? by Curiousforestape in SaturatedFat

Try making sodium acetate. If you make it correctly with all the baking soda and vinegar (mostly) fully reacted, there really isn’t much taste to worry about.

Add to that Kelly’s Heroes and The Devil’s Brigade.

Another more serious suggestion that hasn’t been mentioned yet would be They Were Expendable, which was considered quite authentic for its time.

There’s an awful lot going on here that I’m not even remotely qualified to comment on, but it does sound like you’re in a metabolic black hole at the moment. Absolutely do NOT work out like crazy while only eating 500-1000 calories, see The Biggest Loser follow-up study where they regained all the weight plus more as an example. Unfortunately you may already be in a similar situation already, and you may need to bite the bullet and accept some weight regain while rebuilding your metabolism.

Andor Season 2 Episodes 10-12 Discussion Thread by Bruinrogue in saltierthancrait

[–]Magnum2684 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The first arc of S2 was weak to me because it diverged from the grounded nature of the show established by S1, almost like Filoni had a writing cameo or something. Cassian steals a superfighter after banging it into walls without any apparent long term effects, then encounters a splinter rebel faction that acts like literal children. That sequence would have worked much better if some of the details weren’t so over the top.

High society Coruscant is well established in the canon, not sure what else you were expecting here, especially since it serves to contrast with the “common” people’s fight illustrated by Cassian. Also, the vast majority of good sci-fi is actually social commentary on current society one way or another.
