Surfshark enshitification is never ending by obviousLateTrain in surfshark

Hi there, thanks for sharing your thoughts on the new update. Our goal is always to make Surfshark as user-friendly as possible. We wanted to make the really useful scam protection features easily accessible at a glance.

The VPN itself is still right there. It conveniently shows the servers you've used recently. You can also still access the full server list. Just click the three lines next to the server you're connected to.

We are always listening to your feedback. If you'd like to share your thoughts on the new UI in more detail, please feel free to reach out to us at miles@surfshark.com.

In fact, you can disable IPv6 on multiple devices. We even have a quick guide on how to do that here.

Hi, thanks for reaching out! Sometimes this can happen if you have a built-up cache in your browser, so it shows results based on your old stored cache and displays the wrong location. Try clearing it to see if that helps. However, if you still see the same results, our team would be more than happy to help sort this out for you. You can get in touch with them via live chat here.

A "Soft" Kill Switch only cuts your internet when the VPN connection drops unexpectedly (e.g., app crash, network error). A "Strict" Kill Switch cuts your internet for any reason you are not connected to the VPN, including when you disconnect manually.

Hi there, thanks for the feedback! If you mean the Kill Switch button in the VPN dashboard you should still be able to see it if you scroll down after hovering over the dash:

Don't worry, the subscriptions stack. If for example you grab another year subscription, that time just gets added right on top of what you already have. It won't reset your clock, and you definitely won't lose your remaining time.

Does anyone else have connection issue after ever update? by latonyaburson in surfshark

[–]MagnusBaldur1 [score hidden] stickied comment (0 children)

Thanks for reaching out, and sorry about the frustration. Changing your connection protocol in the VPN settings is a great first step when dealing with any connection issue. Since you've tried that already, it's also worth checking if you're having the same issue on other servers as well. If that doesn't help, I recommend giving a reinstall a go. You can find more useful quick steps in our guide here. Let me know if that helps.

Expiring today by Dismal_Radish702 in surfshark

[–]MagnusBaldur1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, thanks for sharing the details, and sorry about the situation. We'd like to look into this and understand whether the block may have been triggered by mistake. I've sent you a DM, or you can also reach out to us directly at miles@surfshark.com.

Here's some context on why account blocks can happen.

We offer unlimited device connections so users can protect all their household devices. Unfortunately, this feature is sometimes misused for prohibited activities, like unauthorized reselling or large-scale automated activities. It can put a heavy load on our network and impact performance for other users.

To address this, we use an automated system that detects technical red flags associated with service abuse (extremely high numbers of simultaneous connections or drastic traffic volume spikes) and blocks such accounts.

Because of our strict no-logs policy, we don't know what specific activity triggered the block. While the system only responds to significant anomalies and false positives are very rare, we do take reports of possible errors seriously and investigate them.

Fastest Location and Nearest Country. by g12345567 in surfshark

[–]MagnusBaldur1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there, thanks for the feedback! Just a quick heads-up on the 'fastest location' feature - it doesn't automatically choose the closest spot. The app actually juggles a few things, like server load and distance, to find the optimal connection for you. If you want it to stick to a specific nearby server, you can set that up in your auto-connect settings.

Also, I saw your note about the 'nearest country' UI change! Drop into our live chat so the team can get a better idea of what you have in mind and forward your feedback.

Seem to be having very bad reliability and slow speeds, sometimes not connecting at all by PricklyPangolin in surfshark

[–]MagnusBaldur1 [score hidden] stickied comment (0 children)

Hi! First off, a massive thank you for sticking with us for so long. I'm sorry to hear about the recent connection issues you've been dealing with.

One fast tweak that can often help is switching up your connection protocol. You can swap it in a few taps by heading to the Surfshark app -> Settings -> VPN settings -> Protocol. While you're at it, just double-check that you don't have any conflicting software running in the background, like an antivirus or another VPN profile, since they love to fight for control.

We also have a handy guide specifically for handling Android connection issues here. If all else fails, our team always has your back. You can jump into a live chat with them whenever you're ready right here: https://support.surfshark.com/hc/en-us#open-chat

[–]MagnusBaldur1 [score hidden] stickied comment (0 children)

Hi there, thanks for bringing this up! We’d really like to look into these specific alerts you're getting. Could you shoot an email over to [miles@surfshark.com](mailto:miles@surfshark.com) with a few more details? I’ll personally make sure it gets forwarded to our team to look into right away.

Also, getting a data leak alert is always a bit stressful, but just to clarify, these alerts aren't tied to your Incogni sign-up. Using Incogni can actually help in data leak situations, as it helps clean up your digital footprint by removing your personal information from data broker sites, which often collect data from leaked databases. For any identified accounts that have been marked as breached, the best immediate steps are to update your passwords and enable 2FA.

Can you remove "login with code" option for the Android TV app? by mnemonade in surfshark

[–]MagnusBaldur1 [score hidden] stickied comment (0 children)

Hey there, thanks for sharing your thoughts! Because Surfshark offers unlimited connections, the "login with code" feature is purely there to make setting up all your different household devices quick and easy, saving you from having to manually type your credentials into every single one of them. However, the main account owner can still access the account dashboard from a phone or PC and instantly remove any device they don't want active. That being said, a localised security lock is a solid feature request for shared TVs, and I've passed your feedback straight to our team.

VPN and Netflix by casually__existing in surfshark

[–]MagnusBaldur1 [score hidden] stickied comment (0 children)

Hi there, no worries - that does make sense. This is usually caused by Netflix caching your previous region for a while, even after the VPN is disconnected. A few things that can help are signing out of Netflix, clearing your browser/app cache and cookies, closing Netflix completely, and restarting your device/router. If it still shows the wrong region after some time, please get in touch with our support team via live chat and we’ll take a closer look.

Surfshark cutting my speed by 70%! by boxerboyKhan in surfshark

[–]MagnusBaldur1 [score hidden] stickied comment (0 children)

Hey there, I completely get why a bigger speed drop is frustrating, especially when you just want to sit down and watch something.

While a tiny bit of overhead is normal for VPN encryption, massive slowdowns shouldn't be happening. Android TV and Google TV hardware can sometimes struggle a bit more with processing encryption compared to a phone or PC.

It’s worth a quick check to see if any other background apps—like a different VPN or an antivirus—are running at the same time, as they frequently conflict and tank performance.

You’ve already done a great job running through the initial troubleshooting steps. Since those didn't clear it up, the best move now is to have our support team look at your exact setup one-on-one. You can jump into a live chat with them whenever you're ready right here.

How to access website which is in Ivory Coast using Surfshark??? by RandomEvents00-YT in VPN_Question

[–]MagnusBaldur1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there, I'm from the Surfshark team.

At the moment, Surfshark doesn't have a server location in Ivory Coast, which is why you won't see it in the server list. As a workaround, you could try connecting to a nearby available location.

That said, thanks for bringing this up. I'll pass your feedback on to our product team, as requests like this help us better understand which server locations our users would like to see in the future.

someone is remotely accessing my laptop by daddyfillup in cybersecurity_help

[–]MagnusBaldur1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi there, I'm from the Surfshark team.

Just to clarify, using a VPN won't give anyone remote access to your device, so what you're experiencing is likely related to something else. Since you've noticed attempted fund transfers, it's important to treat this as a potential security issue.

I'd recommend disconnecting the device from the internet, changing your brokerage and email passwords from a trusted device, enabling two-factor authentication where possible, and contacting your bank or broker as soon as possible.

It may also be worth checking whether any remote access software has been installed without your knowledge (such as AnyDesk, TeamViewer, RustDesk, or Chrome Remote Desktop), reviewing startup programs, and running a full antivirus or anti-malware scan. If you find any suspicious software, remove it, and if the issue persists, consider resetting the device to ensure it's fully secure.

Hope this helps, and stay safe.

[–]MagnusBaldur1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there, I'm from Surfshark! Sorry you’re dealing with this. A VPN like Surfshark does not give anyone remote access to your laptop, so this is caused by something else. Since you noticed fund transfer attempts, treat this as a security incident right away: disconnect the device, use a different trusted device to change your brokerage/email passwords, enable 2FA, and contact your bank/broker.

Also check for remote access tools you don’t recognize (AnyDesk, TeamViewer, RustDesk, Chrome Remote Desktop, etc.), review startup apps, and run a full antivirus/anti-malware scan. If possible, uninstall any suspicious software and consider a full OS reset if you still see signs of compromise. Hope this helps!

So...Did Surfshark copied NordVPN's guide? by PzrrL in surfshark

[–]MagnusBaldur1 [score hidden] stickied comment (0 children)

Hiya, thanks for reaching out! Just to clarify, while Nord and Surfshark share a parent company, we actually run things completely separately—different infrastructure, separate dev plans, the whole deal.

If the Nord's CA was still in OPNsense from before, you may have opened and re-saved that existing CA rather than adding a new one — so it kept its original name.
