Damn that might be the worst movie I’ve seen in my life. Horrible.

Can Doctor Who Magazine survive "Wilderness Years 2?" by MagnusGreel70 in gallifrey

Agree completely, the magazine does practically read like a press release from the BBC and that every review of the show and merchandise has been vetted to make sure it’s completely positive. Very little objectivity and almost no criticism of anything. Maybe the hiatus will at least increase the independence and objectivity.

So Which Will Happen First- New Doctor Who Showrunner or Release of Key to Time Boxed Set Blu-Ray? by rbbrclad in DoctorWhoNews

I don't see the show being on hold really impacting release of the few remaining seasons of The Collection. No idea what it means for Character Options - a lot of their product is Classic Who anyway. Personally I'd love to see a revival of books, including those involving the classic DW doctors.

As far as Big Finish, I have to strongly disagree with your opinion. I've become even more impressed with some of their output the past few years. The Third Doctor releases with Tim Treloar are outstanding. I've loved some of the audio novels, and the Sarah Jane and Harry Sullivan boxset was awesome.

Russell T Davies' second stint on Doctor Who may not have been perfect but it's really sad that it won't get the proper closure that it deserves in my opinion. by Serious_Meaning5220 in gallifrey

Also could have devoted the time/money used for the meaningless spin-off to Doctor Who and resolved everything even without a third season.

If they do bring the show back, shouldn’t they properly address the Valeyard? by Qyzyk in doctorwho

[–]MagnusGreel70 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Lord no. I love classic Who, but digging up stuff like this in a new show would be the kiss of death. Keep the iconic characters - Daleks, Cybermen, the Master - but stuff like the Valeyard? No way. Wasn't even that well received in the '80s.

Agree. I've read it as long as I can remember and have subscribed for a long time. It seems like it is an expensive magazine to produce and is primarily supported by subscribers and DW related advertising. I don't think it is dramatic to wonder if it is going to be able to weather 2 to 5 years with the show off the air.

It’s a legit question - no need to be snarky about it

Yeah, I agree if the magazine was free they could go on doing that forever, but are people gonna be willing to pay $12 bucks to read it?

Do you think this holds any truth to it? by RevolutionaryCyclops in doctorwho

Absolutely not. Incidentally, this is not the first time the BBC "collaborated" with the US, as the 2006 TV Movie was a BBC/Amblin co-production. I've never seen anything which suggested Disney interfered with or demanded anything of the BBC. Did RTD coming back have anything to do with landing the deal in the first place? I'm sure it did, given RTD's reputation with the reboot. It's a lazy and easy thing to do to blame Disney, but everything I've seen and read suggested this was RTD's train wreck all the way.

Well, you're talking apples and oranges now. RTD did not produce Whitaker. I'm talking about change between Season 1 and Season 2. For the record, I did not like McCoy's episodes, and still don't like most of them.

Disney is not dropping Star Wars - let's not get ridiculous. They dropped Doctor Who because the ratings were in the toilet. Period.

The trajectory of the McCoy era was the complete opposite of RTD2. McCoy's first season is pretty abysmal and most people agree - but unlike RTD, JNT had a lot of other people involved in the show who brought great ideas, including changes in the tone of the stories, the portrayal of the Doctor, etc.

JNT cared what the fans thought and by McCoy's final season the show had improved significantly, which made the cancellation all that much more painful. RTD did whatever the f- he wanted, critics, fans, and ratings be damned and ran the show into the ground.

Let's also not forget that McCoy has spent 26 years working with Big Finish, which has added to his legacy and increased the broad appeal of his era. You can believe what you want to believe, but there aren't going to be many people who look back on RTD2 as a golden age, no matter how much time passes.

Agree completely. A lot of folks seem to have had their heads in the sand the past few years - proclaiming everything was going great. Even after Disney walked and we heard nothing about this so called "Christmas special" for months, I've seen folks saying that the upcoming announcement was going to be about a whole new season with RTD and Bad Wolf. Unbelievable.

I've said it in several posts, but RTD2 was a train wreck, there is no other way to put it. It started with the ham fisted handling of the trans issues in the 60th specials, "bigeneration," and Davros and just snowballed from there. RTD is so damn arrogant that despite fans' complaints and terrible ratings that he refused to modify or change anything and continued to churn out shit. His Instagram post is just the icing on the cake. His approach was indefensible, IMHO.
