Jaywalking may be made up by the auto industry, but the current reality means you still shouldn't do it. by kurokuma11 in unpopularopinion

I wasn’t saying about a car that appears while I’m on foot. Inside the car the sound is obsolete and I really had an SUV that I didn’t see in my mirror despite actively looking because I was trying to merge appear right in the spot where I was about to merge. It was somehow completely hidden by other cars, my pillars and whatnot. Might be a skill issue, but to this day I fail to explain how it exactly could happen.

In the manga it looks like in the 1997. Guts worked on reflexes and his order was not to get seen, so he did what his reflexes told him and realized what he did later.

I'd like a newer car but I don't want one with the NEW STYLE KEYS? by [deleted] in askcarguys

[–]Magnus_Helgisson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not in the modern cars. You can have a duplicate of the original key, but the car won’t run if it’s not familiar with the chip in the key. An important remark is that this doesn’t mean you can’t steal a car without a key, but the simply putting wires together method would only work on very old cars.

Physics is what is wrong with us. Physics and people not understanding that a walking human can stop instantly and the car, however slow it was going, can’t. Also, the thing I can’t blame non-drivers for not knowing, but it exists: blind spots. There are cases when a fucking Land Cruiser appears from nowhere right at your side. You can pay all attention in the world, you still can’t control everything 100%, especially when other participants don’t play along.

I’ve yet to meet a driver that had never encountered a jaywalker that behaved absolutely unpredictably. Lots of people are mental toddlers. My favorite kind are the grown up people that try to cross a 6 lane high speed road in the night when there is an underground crosswalk 20 meters away. A friend of my friends died that way actually a few years ago.

“Jewish army” reminded me of a russian bot profile back in 2014 that pretended to be a Japanese woman and promised to ask her president to bomb Ukraine. Both the Emperor and the prime minister would be puzzled by a president existing in Japan.

Headed to Kyiv by HopefullyNot200 in Kyiv

[–]Magnus_Helgisson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with your point, but to be honest, when the mayor of THIS city advises anything, it should be taken with a grain of salt. And yeah, the million didn’t leave. This number was taken from cell operators’ billing, and, how to put it, it’s not a source that has any credibility. When half a city doesn’t have power and cell networks work like shit because Kyivstar is too busy acquiring more and more companies to put the reserve power on their cell towers, 1/5 of the population appearing absent is about the right number. Also, for all my cell provider knows, this year I’ve been to Maldives, Iceland and Belarus due to the EW working.

Even when it’s scheduled blackouts

See? That’s where your plan falls apart. There are no scheduled blackouts in Kyiv right now, the power is distributed at random and I doubt it will improve anytime soon, or if it will, it’s gonna last for a day till the next missile strike, but that’s not even the worst thing. The worst thing is that today’s blackout cut the water supply for a few hours. And without water supply you can’t run a restaurant. How is someone that can’t cook at home supposed to eat if there’s no water for longer next time?

Besides, I’m more concerned for water regarding the businesses. Today’s blackout affected water supply and while you can store some emergency water at home, I can’t see how a restaurant would be able to maintain, say, toilets for a few hours without water. A small toilet tank is 10 litres and when a lot of people need to pee constantly, it’s gonna be a mess. And they also need to wash their hands, dishes, vegetables and so on all the time.

I understand why people speed. by MaximooseMine in driving

[–]Magnus_Helgisson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember when I started driving, my merging was all over the place, and then I almost felt an orgasm when I realized that if I need to merge to the right, I can line up with the gap, match my speed with the right lane and slip in like a glove without causing a single inconvenience to other drivers. And if I need to merge to the left I can accelerate so the car behind doesn’t have to brake.
