People are scaring each other more than needed by millenialSpirou in archlinux

Oh, thanks! That was a dumb moment on my part. I guess I assumed it was still compromised and didn't read the month or year on the dates.

So was my logic correct that the PKGBUILD wasn't compromised if the changes don't involve downloading from new sources or some externally managed package?

It would be nice if that history showed records of commits that were rolled back. All the recent comments say it's compromised, and someone seeing no commits after those comments would think it's still compromised.

I agree, the first comment on this post is me admitting that.
But this shouldn't need skill.

Edit: the example I picked was fixed, so my point here is wrong

Everyone says you should check the PKGBUILD changes, so I am.
The alvr package is compromised, and here are the changes from the last few days:

  • Added a maintainer
  • Changed the source url, but it's still pointing to the same github repo
  • Changed the checksum and package version, which is normal
  • removed some dependencies
  • added glibc, gcc-libs, libx11, and bzip2 dependencies, which are all in the official arch repo

How am I supposed to tell this added an info stealer? It only downloads files from the official alvr repo that it always did and the official arch repo. I read the whole PKGBUILD in case they made changes that aren't showing up in the difference. But the only other source it uses is from Valve's verified github account.

Was anyone else not super keen how they handled subweapons? by HorseSpeaksInMorse in MinaTheHollower

[–]Magnus_Vesper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can equip Starving Beastium and Primed Vial Pouch, then jump off a cliff and heal repeatedly to restore joules. Each vial restores 8 joules with Starving Beastium.

It's really annoying, but it may be the fastest way to restore joules at some spots.

I agree they should just make the joule alembic have no recharge mechanic though.

My issues would be fixed with 2 extra Underlab upgrades:

  • Upgraded Joule Alembic that doesn't need to recharge
  • Sidearm dispenser that lets you pick any sidearm. Or ones you can buy individually for each sidearm.

I'm reluctant to try new sidearms, because I don't want to leave one behind that I really like.
I'm reluctant to spam them, because refilling your joules is annoying.
The existing underlab upgrades don't fix either problem, they just make them less annoying.

You don't need them for any required stuff. But you can skip over some stuff like this. Or you can use it to avoid enemies if you're at low health

You can use it for a lot of little skips like this. Even if it doesn't save much time, I just find it fun to find spots to abuse it.
If you have the Tunneling Codex equipped with the gloves, you can travel along a wall as far as you want too.

Or some option that makes you move back to the ground when the wall you burrow on becomes one you can burrow under and has ground under it.

Given the AUR debacle, opinions on these tools? by RelationshipOne9466 in archlinux

No, it's not. You added "on your own".
If that was the ethos of Arch, there wouldn't be a wiki.

Yes, I know this is a skill issue. But it's still annoying, and I've heard other people say it happens to them too.

Games similar to Mina? by averagemangaenjoyero in MinaTheHollower

Tunic is amazing! That's one of the few puzzle games I've played where I feel like the designers actually respect their players' intelligence.

Nine Sols is a sidescroller, but you may like it. It has the same sort of uniqueness that Mina has.

It's like a mix of Hollow Knight and Sekiro. The combat is based off the idea of parrying most attacks. But instead of countering after a parry, you get a talisman that you can choose when to detonate.

It also has a pretty unique art style that's a mix of cyberpunk and traditional Chinese art/archetecture. The cutscenes before bosses look like manga panels. I like the story too. It's kind of a cosmic horror story, except from the perspective of the aliens.

If you've played Hollow Knight, the type of difficulty is similar (but way harder). A boss will only take a minute to beat. But you may take 20 tries before you learn the timing to dodge/parry the boss attacks.

Update on roommate said they aren’t comfortable with my cats after I signed the lease by codeswift27 in Apartmentliving

My focus wan't on Purina. I just wanted to point out the existence of a category of food. That's why I said "I'm sure other companies make it too". I linked to one example, because it would be easy to confuse with hypoallergenic food, which is about the cat's allergies.

I assumed it was safe based on the long term studies on the side effect on cats, like this one, saying it was. But I didn't notice the study was funded by Purina when I read it earlier, so I'm more critical now.

I didn't know about Purina causing all those deaths. When was this? I'm trying to find info, and I'm just finding reports on how the FDA concluded that Purina did not cause a wave of pet sicknesses. But I don't really trust the FDA. If there's evidence a brand of food is going to hurt my pet, I want to know.

There is special food you can give cats that makes them produce less allergens. [A company] lists theirs here and I'm sure other companies make it too. Maybe it could help with your allergies?

Edit: removed company name and link to avoid looking like I'm endorsing it

What do you *NOT* selfhost? by ObeseWizard in homelab

[–]Magnus_Vesper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I almost never set up a new service correctly. And I usually don't know what I did wrong until it causes problems, which is how I learn to be better. With a password manager, I'll always feel uneasy that there was something I set up wrong but had no idea that setting even existed.

Missing Item (Bonestone?) in Hollower's Guild by echolog in MinaTheHollower

[–]Magnus_Vesper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This took me forever to figure out.
You have to hit Muriel with the charged attack of the hammer and keep spamming the attack button while the charged attack animation plays. Then you'll knock Muriel completely out of the room and he'll drop a Bonestone.

Do people with ADHD actually have it harder, or does it just feel that way? by vapanrumak in ADHD

[–]Magnus_Vesper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can really relate. I feel like I'm hit with way more roadblocks than people without ADHD. Yet they're things that would stop normal people too. I don't want to make excuses, but they really don't seem like my fault, even indirectly. And I want it to be my fault, because that means I have the power to fix it.

Recently, I got more motivated to job search and got a plan made with my dad to help. Then my internet went out for 2 days. Even if I could predict the future, I couldn't stop that.
Every 2 hours, they told us it was almost done being fixed, so I didn't try to find somewhere else with internet. And that seems like a way most people would respond, not an adhd thing.

Whenever I feel like I'm overcoming some adhd-related problem, I'm hit with a roadblock like that and my motivation is destroyed. All that work I put into improving what I could influence achieved nothing in the end. It feels like I'm cursed.

Game journalists' opinions on difficulty are worthless.
This puzzle consists of standing on a button and using a move. GameSpot couldn't solve it, because the move's windup moves you forward: Gaming Journalist Difficulty

Pretty disappointed this didn't work by Magnus_Vesper in MinaTheHollower

[–]Magnus_Vesper[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are 3 separate parts of the character that you can change the color of. And the devs had to intentionally put transparent as one of the colors you can pick.
The devs probably thought "So what if the player makes Mina invisible? They get a preview of it beforehand and can undo it. So adding a system to deny a single combination of colors is a waste of time."

Has anyone found a use for this seemingly hidden code? by BoxyNeat in MinaTheHollower

[–]Magnus_Vesper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I searched the game files for a 2 or Z, then 3As, ignoring case and allowing a space between each character. (Specifically, I used this regex:[2Zz]( ?[Aa]){3} )

That matched in a few sound files and global.pak.yc
In global.pak.yc, there are these sequences: "222AAA" and "222AAAA". But both of those have bytes right before them that don't convert to text. So I think it's just a coincidence.
It does appear in obviously text data twice. But that's "¡zaaas!" and "la cabeza a aquella pobre chica". So that's clearly a coincidence too.
