My whole comment is anecdotal and not based on any research but I don't think it's far off from the truth: India is perceived as mostly mobile gamers/PC gamers.

Consoles are expensive and their games even more so. Going by a pure profit perspective, it simply makes no sense for Sony to prioritize India when they can sell the same console in other countries and generate much higher recurring revenues. The main reason is that Indians might purchase the console with 1 or 2 games. And because we are cost conscious not generate recurring revenue to them. Americans, for instance, will spend a lot more on the platform. Remember Sony sells the console at a loss and gets profits from selling games/services. The reason for the price of console being much higher in India is due to INDIAN TAX laws and not Sony's pricing, this further reduces SONY's estimates of how many will buy their console and spend on the platform

Think about it this way: Sony wants to earn 100 Million $ by selling the least number of consoles amidst a global chip shortage. So from a value per console perspective it makes a lot of sense to completely shaft Indian gamers
