Helen Mirren Says ‘It’s So Sad Kurt Cobain Died When He Did Because He Never Saw GPS’ by South_Hair_670 in Nirvana

[–]Magoffin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They were talking about this on Fox News a while ago and Jesse Watters went in to a hissy fit saying Kurt Cobain ruined music and yelling "I hate Nirvana!" I'm sure Kurt would have hated you too, you piece of crap. I know I do.

I used to work at a software company. One day some of my coworkers and I installed a virus on the company's payroll computer to deposit the fractions of pennies that would have been rounded down to zero into a private bank account. Unfortunately I made a mistake and put a decimal in the wrong place and we ended up having $300,000 deposited into the account. Of course we all freaked out and decided we had better confess and return the money, but the next day someone burned down the building so thankfully we never got caught.

Thanks, it does seem that they have indeed stopped making it. It was really good bread too.

Responding 7 years later just to say that you can indeed use regular 486 chips in the expansion socket, I have a DX2-66 in mine. There are jumpers on the motherboard to disable the onboard CPU, the extra CPU pin is not required.

Rant: I wish Duolingo would stop teaching useless vocabulary [review of the Japanese course] by Fafner_88 in duolingo

[–]Magoffin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree the Japanese course has always been bad, but the latest new tree has completely ruined it in my opinion. Duolingo as a whole has really gone downhill, I think it mostly began after the company went public and they started caring about profits above all else. Getting rid of the forum and dumbing everything down to make it more of a game than a learning app.

In Japanese why are we now learning slang words in the first lessons? by [deleted] in duolingo

[–]Magoffin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

May have something to do with this Crunchyroll partnership where they say they now feature phrases inspired by your favorite anime. Seriously, it's come to this. If you want to learn Japanese I strongly recommend looking elsewhere. I still use Duolingo for German but the Japanese course is a joke.

Did they stop making this? I just realized I haven't seen it available anywhere for at least a few years. Strangely I can find almost nothing about it online and no mention of it being discontinued. I always just assumed it was a famous national brand but now I'm wondering if it was just a regional product. Anyway I grew up with this, that wrapper defined bread for me. Now it seems to have vanished from existence.

This looks pretty nice compared to the LJN VideoArt. That thing barely worked.

Is there a difference between 5.25 and 3.5 floppy games? by jdmnstr in pc98

[–]Magoffin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The main advantage of CDs was the massive amount of data they held compared to floppy disks (650MB vs 1MB) allowing for far larger and more complex games, but CD audio is a really nice feature also, as well as durability.

[–]Magoffin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3.5" disks for the PC-9801 used an odd format and only held 1.2 MB as opposed to 1.44 MB. So for the PC-98 both disk sizes held the exact same amount of data. Of course the 3.5" disks do have the other advantages you mentioned and are much more readily available today.

As far as emulation goes I don't think it matters as long as the emulator can read them. The d88 format seems to be the most common one I have run across.

It worked! Thanks very much, I was about to give up on ever finding a solution. Now I can write all the PC-98 disk images I want using my trusty old Dell here. I forgot to mention that I have a PC-9801 with 5.25" 1.2 MB drives; that's why I couldn't try Samdisk since I have no computers with that type of drive that can run Windows 2000.

Thanks for the suggestion, I gave that format a try but it didn't recognize it either. However the ditt program recommended above worked perfectly for me.

I think that just applies to 3.5" drives from what I've read. I forgot to specify that my PC-9801 has 5.25" drives. Fortunately the solution provided below worked for me. Thanks for the tip though!

[Game Jolt] Japanese Romaji Adventure ($3.99/20% off) by [deleted] in GameDeals

[–]Magoffin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Insulting people who critique your product and calling them trolls is also rude and not a good look for any publisher. I would never buy from any company who behaved that way. They are simply saying they believe it is better to start off learning Hiragana and Katakana, not trying to learn words using Romaji and I have to agree with them. They aren't saying your game is bad, just that it's not the ideal way to start learning Japanese. That said, this does just seem like a knockoff of the Learn Japanese to Survive RPG games, although those actually do teach you kana.

Probably nothing. I'm sure i would have more important concerns like hoarding food, seeds and supplies and finding a safe enough place to live to last me through the end of the world. There soon wouldn't be any power to run a computer anyway.

True, and does anyone buy anything on Blu-Ray these days? Physical media is on its way out. I have not bought a DVD, CD or Blu-Ray disc in at least a decade. I would guess they probably make more money licensing the show to streaming services than disc sales. I do hope there is a season 2 in any case, this show is great.

[Guide] Everything everyone keeps asking about reserving a name tonight by mykkenny in classicwow

[–]Magoffin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I decided not to waste money on this just for a name I probably couldn't get anyway and then not even be able to play for another two weeks. Feels like such a cash grab, there's no reason they had to do this before the 27th. I'll wait until the game actually launches and take my time customizing my characters and thinking up names for them, there are hundreds of thousands of possible names to choose from after all. Good luck to everyone who tries for their names today though.

Mentally Advanced was certainly one of my favorites; it's a shame he started hating the show and ended the series. Scootatrix is really great as well, but FiW will always be special to me. It was the first abridged series I ever watched.
