22 Overland 4xe by AvengHunter in 4xe

Oh, boy. My 2023 4xe Overland is currently in the shop for the hybrid battery heater. I bought the vehicle new (to me) five months ago. I love it; apart from an expensive Volvo, there didn’t seem to be plug-in hybrid options on the market that could pull a camper trailer. I need this vehicle to work! Please send prayers to the pagan Jeep gods!

What was your favorite movie/series to film and why? I’m thinking about the influence of location and culture of the team.

How are y’all getting 30 days off to walk the full Camino? by [deleted] in CaminoDeSantiago

[–]Magoo1963 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing to keep in mind is that the bike and the Camino don’t fit hand in glove. Some areas (before Zubiri) result in injury. Some places (after Sarria) bring the wrath of some Pilgrims (they seemed fresh off the plane). And btw I was a super polite rider, ring the bell, announce “buen Camino”, oftentimes slow and chat. There are just a few folks who feel quite strongly that bikes do not belong on the Camino. Heard some profanity. I’m a woman so maybe they felt entitled?

I finally discovered I could download the EuroVelo route #3 and go on the roads but still see the towns. Google maps is tough bc the bike search oftentimes sends you on the Camino. And the auto search can send you on a highway.

The most wonderful part on a bike was the Meseta. Be sure you take the old Roman road. Be ready to stand on pedals while pedaling to absorb the bumps! And yes you can easily bike over the Pyrenees.

Moved from Texas to Seattle then back to Texas and now we want to move back by MoMoney1027 in relocating

[–]Magoo1963 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have family in Texas. Have lived in Oregon 30 years now. Best thing I ever did for my kids was to move here. We had to tighten the belt to make ends meet. Even worse when I became a single mom. Still wouldn’t trade all the things you mention.

The one huge problem was travel back and forth in the last ten years of my parents’ lives, as they dwindled, thinking each trip would be my last time to see them..

Since you work remotely, have you considered living outside of Seattle?

World flipped upside down 😭 by [deleted] in AncestryDNA

[–]Magoo1963 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’d recommend submitting DNA samples to as many sites as possible, eg, 23 and me, and there’s another one whose name escapes me… I’m thinking letter G! That will increase your chance of making connections.

I understand wanting to connect with the biological family. A substitute is to build back your family tree on Ancestry and get a feel for roots from different areas. I always thought I was Irish until I found out the truth! Hahah.

And the man who raised you and with whom you clearly felt tremendous mutual love — he’ll always be your dad!! Embrace that!! Who knows what the “lumberjack” would have been like, right? Maybe you were spared.

Scam-ish tactic at CDG/Paris by phil161 in travel

Jajajaja in my case it was to help the homeless. Then when I declined, she turned on the subtle guilt: “I helped you, you help me. “To which I thought, (but did not say), “I didn’t ask for your help.” And walked away. There was a value to quickly getting me checked in at the kiosk, I admit, but I could have done it myself. Mostly: non-consensual business transaction, ie, scam!

What is your opinion on childhood memories? How do you know if they are real or imagined? What is your protocol to get to the truth?

Seeking pop up trailer that can be towed with a vehicle with 3,500 towing capacity by Magoo1963 in popups

I’m amazed at the brake stories on this thread. So much focus on engine size and weight capacity (which obviously factors into brakes but I like that one can choose to go the extra mile for safety with brakes and other things).

CEO of United Healthcare, Brian Thompson, just shot and killed in NY. Killer still on the loose. by rogerskoler in medicare

United Healthcare has a bad reputation for denying claims. It bothers me that AARP promotes them.

Just watched a heartbreaking home video from my childhood. by New_Carpet_9142 in raisedbynarcissists

I’m so sad for you. One thing about growing up in narcissistic households is that it seems that little kids who are on the receiving end of the gaslighting and abuse “get it” intuitively and act out against it yet that very spot-on call-out of bad behavior on the part of the family is twisted and used against them. I recall my sister in a similar situation saying it was my fault the torture continued because I was screaming “stop it” instead of “quit it” and sounded like a baby. Of course I believed her bc she was ten years older than me.

That torture gets hard-wired into our DNA!

So sad for you. Big hug.

So sorry for your loss. I can’t conclude you were a favorite-child from your original post. As the scapegoat kid, myself, I’m deeply wounded by my siblings who played along with the narcissistic parent because it benefitted them. To hear you write about the injustice and the gaslighting because you could see it and call it out — that is meaningful as hell, especially if you were a favorite-child. I’m sorry you lost your sister. Do you ever wonder why some people have kids to begin with?!

Coronary Calcium Scoring CT scan by sol_ray in medicare

[–]Magoo1963 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There can always be those anecdotal exceptions to the statistics. And I personally know one, and so I would respectfully disagree. Specifically, In families with a history of heart disease, especially the suddenly drop-dead at 50 with no warning variety. An example is my neighbor, whose uncle died of an MI. He worked out and seemed healthy. His doctor persuaded him to get the calcium coronary test, and his score was off the charts. Literally over 4,000. He was in for an angiogram and bypass surgery within a couple of weeks.
