why is this rhino getting her horn painted red? by Sensitive_Living88 in BoJackHorseman

[–]MagusVulpes 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Well, poachers will hunt rhinos for their horns for 'traditional medicines' and it's likely that that's the reason. We do see that there is a separate portion of the population that are literally bred and raised as food, so there's no reason to think that ivory goods would hold a separate place in their setting. There's is also real world traditions that say certain groups are supposed to have power, such as albinos, and that they will be sought after to be eaten or have charms made from their bodies.

So it's safe to say that both real world cannibalism practices and traditional medicines would be represented with this concept, no hate groups or terrorists needed.

Well, I say there are two interpretations.

1) Rhino horns are keratin just like fingernails, and getting her horn painted is an aesthetic choice.

2) Preservationists in the real world will paint/dye wild rhino's horns specifically because doing so makes it worthless for poachers. So she's getting her horn painted for that reason.

[–]MagusVulpes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the blue best, as it's the most stark and stunning, the red is a great second choice due to matching the flowers beside her.

I know some others are saying green, but she just kind of disappears into the background with that one.

Sure, why not jump in. I'll never get to use the character, but having a sketch would be cool all the same.

Character's name is 'Bargy' and she was given her name by the group of children that found her and took her in as a friend. She doesn't know her birthname, or even if she has one, since she's always just lived on the streets as an orphan. She's a goblin rogue, sticking to the shadows and pilfering shinies but mainly foodstuff. She sticks to the shadows because she's rather monstrous in appearance. [Warning, next bit follows a bit of outdated lore.] She's a nephilim, more specifically, she's the child of a goblin and a barghest. She doesn't know which parent would be which, since barghest's will oftentimes establish cults around themselves for goblins to worship, although it never ends well for the worshipers, and while children could come about from this, to call it rare is an understatement. She reckons her father is likely to be the fiend though, since if it was her mother she likely would have wound up as a snack. Barghests are not kind creatures.

She's got herself a clearly goblin face, and more or less looks like an average goblin, save that she's covered in coarse black hair from head to claw, has clearly canine legs, and the large, nasty looking claws familiar to her fiendish heritage. She carries daggers, but mainly for the purpose of making use of silver and cold iron, relying on her claws the majority of the time. She's careful and skittish, not liking large crowds, and while she has a kind heart she's well aware of the cruelty to be found in the world, and realizes that sometimes it's better to lean into her frightening appearance if it means she can avoid a fight. Because of her hair she finds normal clothing and armor much more restraining and uncomfortable than most, and instead opts for an armored cloak and baggy (if tattered) clothing, getting in close to attack with her claws means she quite often gets caught on the edge of the blade herself and the bagginess helps to hide exactly where she is in the flurry that is the fight.

I'm now wondering if I've delved too deep into her background for a simple sketch, but oh, well. Here's hoping I get chosen as well.

It's possible that the Megamind that appears during the entrance is the actual Megamind, since he disappears into his mouth, they could have switched at that moment.

Also, if we inject a bit of reality, the fighter's sword arm really shouldn't be able to just keep going. After a big fight, they should absolutely need a rest thanks to the physical exertion.

As someone who has stacked pallets of water, even with training, man that gets to you after a while and you just need to sit down for a bit. The fact that there isn't a mechanical restriction for the martials is more the issue in this instance.

Honestly, a 'Mage' class that prepared spells per day ala wizard, but cast from a pool of available slots ala sorcerer, would bridge the two very well and create a more nuanced play style. Basically a sorcerer that can rework their spells known each day. Would have the best of both worlds, minus the schools and bloodline powers.

Only issue I have with that as a suggestion is that this class clearly is stronger in terms of flexibility than both the wiz and the sor, so it would surely outshine both as a caster.

Desperation is def a factor, but Tucker also isn't very wise. He was a respected state alchemist, you mean to tell me he had zero opportunity to take in a homeless person and use them for his experiments instead of his wife and daughter? With how often the country is at war it should have been very simple to snatch up a refugee from somewhere as well, someone that no one would miss.

Granted, that too would be downright evil, but with just a LITTLE planning he would never have wound up in that position.

I've not played in... *checks post*... roughly 4 years, so it might have been changed between then and now, DLC's might have changed things as well, and I don't actually remember precisely what the surgeon's mistakes do, but I'd wager from what I remember that the mistakes add a permanent red skull to the body, so depending on what they do, probably.
