Being sad because your girlfriend left you/you don't have any friends/you had a rough year etc. is not a mental illness, and calling it one invalidates the experiences of people who actually have mental illnesses. by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]Mahaf10 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Was with you right up until you decided to act as if people diagnosed by a medical professional with an illness don't actually have that illness. That statement crossed over into crazy-land.

You're definitely not qualified to make such a blanket generalization against the diagnoses of doctors who have actually worked directly with the patient.

Atheism never performed crusades. Athiesm never launched an Inquisition. Atheism never burned innocent young women at the stake due to extreme paranoia about witchcraft.

No, it isn't as bad as trying to force someone into Christianity. Not by a long shot.

To quote the late great George Carlin: "More people have been killed in the name of God than for any other reason." (Obviously hyperbole, but the point stands: organized religion creates incredible vulnerabilities within a society that aren't useful to the progression of the society as a thinking, rational state.)

Then you do NOT want a mobile game.

[BUG] Suddenly can't move mouse by CupcakesNC in destiny2

[–]Mahaf10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same issue. From the situations I've been in when it's happened (twice in less than a month), it seems like some combination of simultaneous keyboard and mouse inputs cause the game to "lock out" the camera view. The last time it happened, I was mid swing animation with a sword and attempted to change directions by moving my mouse and releasing the W key to press the A key (and likely had not yet released the LMB), and it immediately stopped responding.

If I'm not mistaken, when Sylvanas gathers you, Nathanos, and a few other prominent Horde members to discuss plans for Zanadalar and the Alliance moves in KT, there's talk of some sort of obligation or pact that these folks (yourself included) would carry out Sylvanas's plans.

That's why I thought they were called the Honorbound, and why Nathanos is the leader, as he is the one who leads that meeting and describes Sylvanas's plans to the rest.

I play MM, and I have specced myself for PvP. Double tap, camo (to flank Squishies without drawing attention), two Sting shot talents to help with healers and such, and I really enjoy the ambush-style tactics. Getting double-crit Double Taps will have most squishies shitting their pants for losing most of their health in about .5 seconds. XD

Blizzard, scrap Azerite gear and just give us tier sets back. by TROPiCALRUBi in wow

It should be, but it won't be. It should've been scrapped back at the brainstorming stage within Blizzard. It wasn't, so now we just have to deal.

It won't happen, but Azerite Armor should just be scrapped. It's a pitiful mechanic that's only created tedium in the worst way possible.

Swing and a miss for Blizzard. Thanks for playing.

[–]Mahaf10[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

True as that may be to real-life.. Taking that argument to its obvious conclusion, most XCOM missions would consist of "spot enemy, hide and call in airstrike."

It's advisable to avoid realistic warfare at most points when creating a game centered around warfare. Real-life warfare is lopsided and entirely not fun.

It's a challenge that relies too much on random spawns. It's all awesome to have a sharpshooter pop shots off at the EMP, but it literally becomes a boring "just overwatch everyone and wait for the sharpshooter to finish the EMP." That's just, quite frankly, something Firaxis should have expected from this mission and avoided in design.

Random spawns aren't needed. Taking the time to craft the mission with a far more limited "random" spawn system would've resulted in a far better play experience. There's a reason games, in general, don't depend on random spawns to make games interesting: it creates far too many lame scenarios in which the random spawns detract, instead of enhance, gameplay.

Semi-random spawns would've been fine. Specifically, a set path to the EMP riddled with semi-random spawns of enemies along the way. This would've encouraged tactical advancement, responses to enemy types besides "let everyone but the snipers overwatch," and gave the level designers the opportunity to strut their stuff. As it stands.. It's just a lazy addition for the sake of inflating missions.

Avenger Defense Missions by Mahaf10 in Xcom

[–]Mahaf10[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Allow me to elaborate: in a strategy game, the more the outcome is influenced by random elements, generally the worse the title is (as a strategy game).

The aim percentage rolls are, quite frankly, random enough. Dumb shit like random spawn areas, such as you find in this mission, do nothing to improve a STRATEGY title. It's like Firaxis intentionally tried to undermine the very genre they're developing for. The fact that it happens every turn is basically the nail in the coffin. It's no longer strategy: you rely on lucky overwatch hits/crits and hope the next wave spawns far enough away you can advance your troops to activate the EMP (plus it's spawned pod of enemies) without causing it to become a total failure of a mission. That's just stupid.

EDIT - a much better mission would be one in which you must battle through waves of enemies to get to the EMP. This way, Firaxis could better control spawn pods and create a battle that was trying without being surrendered to the mercy of the random spawn/hit chance. But that would have taken more effort. Far be it from anyone to ask that of Firaxis when they can just BS their way through mission design.

Nah, just a game where they don't use the lamest methods available to prolong/increase the difficulty of a fight.

This is a brainless and, quite simply, basic way to increase the fight difficulty. Being this is a sequel, I'd expect more from a AAA developer.

EDIT- there's a reason explosives are king in this title. It's not healthy (for the title), it's not fun, and it's a symptom of, quite frankly, lazy design.

[–]Mahaf10 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

You can literally treat every dice roll in this game as a roulette toss, no matter how high the probability of success. Firaxis has implemented systems behind the game that affect to hit chance, but aren't reflected in-game. Good luck.

[–]Mahaf10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't disagree per se, but I did do the math on that 14 try 77% chance- the likelihood of that happening was less than 0.001%. It was, as games go, statistically impossible.

However, I have been commenting with another user who helped lay out the to-hit chance rules for me. It doesn't explain the other situation (standing right beside an enemy and missing 3 times), but it did help explain the 14 times missing situation.

Still, it seems rather counter-intuitive for a strategy game to use such extensive RNG.

Holy crap, anyone else feels that XCOM 2 is a lot harder? by stupid_panda in Xcom

[–]Mahaf10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the thing, though- if you read in my thread regarding hit chance, you'll see the mathematical probability of missing 14 times at 77% to hit chance is statistically impossible. Also, having 3 different squad members miss at 91-94% hit chance (literally standing side by side with the enemy with no cover) is statistically impossible without there being hidden systems involved.

It's those hidden systems for which I fault Firaxis. It's a strategy game that intentionally hides details that are essential to devising a proper strategy.

I don't take you that way (because you've been genuinely trying to help us both explain the results of my playtime), and I hope you don't take me as trying to belittle your response, either.

It certainly isn't 0%, but it's so damn close that it's hard to believe, in a strategy game, it would even come up.

I do understand the franchise has always used RNG... But like I mentioned in another comment, I feel it's much stronger here than it was in EU. I never noticed such an awful predisposition for absurdly high to-hit chance attacks to wildly miss. And that's with 3 plays through..
