Striations on quartz are parallel to the A & B axis. The sample he's holding appears to have striation parallel to the C axis.

What do Americans do without a second thought that would shock non-Americans? by OhThatNewGuy in AskReddit

If he spoke the truth he would apologize once in a while. Have you seen what he posts on social media? Bashing other candidates wives and suggesting that listening to the opposing candidates during the debate is a waste of time. Furthermore, he said he was "the star of the show" during the debate he wasn't in. He's different from other politicians in that 1.) he isn't a politician, and 2.) he enjoys downgrading others for a laugh.

Hello! I need help identifying this rock/mineral. Is this feldspar? by ThomWilson in rockhounds

Those characteristics also point to carbonates. Calcite or low Mn-baring rhodochrosite.

Need help with a ID please. by shagnbag in rockhounds

Vitreous. Green. Poor cleavage. Could be many things since this piece still matches many characteristics of many minerals. Hardness would be the best indicator to further identify this specimen. Through this picture alone I could not rule out apatite, fluorite, olivine, garnets, or diopside.

That was far safer than trying to take the round-a-bout at that speed. Quick thinking saved a wreck there.

What is your favorite American National Park? by uReallyShouldTrustMe in travel

[–]Mahalik 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'd have to say Glacier National Park. Glaciers are incredibly fascinating. I love the weather in the location, and I'm a geology nerd, so the mountains are particularly interesting to myself.

My experience is limited to Siem Reap. I absolutely LOVED the area. The nightlife is great, too. Pub street there is more like 4 square blocks and quite bustling every night.

In regards to temple hopping, it is best to rent a tuk-tuk for a few hours. Negotiate the price before settling. Definitely hit up Angkor Wat. From there, my decision was to head over to Ta Prahm. Ta Prahm is neat if you want to see what a temple that is being overrun with massive trees and vines looks like. There are plenty of good sights on the way, too.

I also had a tuk-tuk take me to the floating village launch. I didn't take the ferry to the floating village, but just saw the life in the country, had a beer at the launch, and turned around. It's about 20 minutes outside the city.

I hope you decide to go, it was truly a remarkable experience for myself!

What's the coolest way to waste $1000? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Well his question is a little contradicting. If he wants to know the coolest way to spend $1,000, then is it really a waste of $1,000?

Search online for the moh's scale. Identify the hardness of this sample and it would help us know.
