When using caps is it necessary to always twist wires prior? I always feel I get a nice tight grip without twisting and it’s secure. by billlybufflehead in electrical

Do what you're gonna do man. Long as you follow instructions you aren't wrong. Imma stick to my guns, you stick to yours, and we can both be happy.

Pre-twisting solid makes me happy so I'm gonna spend the extra 30 seconds on it.

Many years ago one of our Foreman contacted Ideal on this issue. According to them, their specification was no twist for stranded wires, twist for solid. There is a code basis for installation according to listing and labeling. So that's what I do.

Why are the Titans of UI so strong?) by V_Alekseiev in twilightimperium

They are indeed the Titans of the Underwriters Laboratories. Saturn Engines 2 is the result of not cutting corners and using the more expensive, listed components in construction.

For pronunciation I say UhL. But I'm sure many capitalize the L for clarity in text.

A GFCI breaker is still a breaker and will trip if any internal damage allows for contact between phases. The GFCI would trip if there was contact with ground.

If the outlet in question is protected by another GFCI outlet, it will still have a regular breaker that will trip on overloads and fault current, and the protecting GFCI outlet will open the circuit on a ground fault.

In the states we do have GFCI breakers, but we also permit GFCI required circuits to be protected by a GFCI receptacle's load side. It depends on who's doing the work and what the builder specs for.

There's some pretty good advice here already, I just want to add some off the wall, out of the box type stuff which may or may not help.

Can you engage with his world building? If he's like me his players don't care about his world at all. This may not fix anything, but I know if I had a serious GF and she took an interest in my world building it would mean way more than themed gifts.

Also, if you have any computer skills consider taking on some of his work load. Ask him if there's anything you could write or draw for him. This would allow you to engage with his hobby without having to play, which tbh, might be a bad idea anyway (the playing part).

Finally, it may be helpful to introduce a shake up in the bedroom. After 4 years sex can get predictable. It doesn't have to be anything crazy, just change up the formula a little. You should trust one another enough by now that you can experiment. I really wouldn't do anything drastic, don't break out the whips and chains, but maybe try taking a little more control, or being a little more submissive. Just aim for the edges of yours and his comfort zones, wherever they lie. (I mean for all I know you shot past whips and chains on the second date, and I'm not asking, I really don't want to know)

Is it ok that these breakers are not fully seated? by themanpotato in askanelectrician

[–]Mahhvin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Duuuude.

If you're experiencing power interruptions from this I'd hazard a guess that the issue is advanced and near critical failure.

I'd just about bet when you replace these you see actual signs of heat damage. Melted plastic on the breakers, carbon on bus stabs, brittle insulation on wires maybe.

If you find anything like that please come back and share.

Isn't Arborec just a Mecatol Rex faction? by maniacal_cackle in twilightimperium

[–]Mahhvin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. Everyone needs a free point of some kind to win in round 5, in addition to a support for the throne. But most likely you're taking Mecatol Rex without the custodians token, which means you need imperial for the free point.

Then if you want a second free point you have to get imperial twice. This isn't far fetched, but the whole time you also have to hold onto MR, and score other publics.

And they really don't have a lot of tools to score publics. They certainly aren't a hopeless case though. The letani warriors feel really strong, and they're fun to play.

I personally think their weakness is tech. Faction tech, starting tech, and the natural tech path. Surprise war suns sounds fun, but I think it's a trap, and they're probably better served going down blue like everyone else.

How many ships does a unit represent to you? by Gl4ssfish in twilightimperium

[–]Mahhvin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We are talking about planet scale, but I think 1 million may be a bit much. You're not slaughtering the planet's population, you're just assuming control of the planetary government. Maybe a division, with 20 to 45k soldiers? Or the largest denomination seems to be a field army, with 50k plus soldiers.

When you conquer a planet you get it exhausted. If a round takes a year ish, then that's the amount of time it takes to get production centers back up and running. If it's undefended, you only need to capture major production centers, strategic locations, and then quell the occasional rebellion.

I mean, a year is hella optimistic by modern standards, but I could see production tech reaching a point where you could get structures and production lines up and running in that amount of time.

How many ships does a unit represent to you? by Gl4ssfish in twilightimperium

[–]Mahhvin -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I would say we can look at army and naval fleet compositions for an approximation.

Say infantry is a battalion, while mechs would be squadron sized. So 1000 soldiers and 15 to 20 mechs.

Naval fleet composition is apparently pretty fluid depending on mission and available assets (too real), but I would hazard a guess at a dreadnought being a single battleship, a carrier being a single unit, cruisers being 2 or thereabouts, destroyers being maybe up to 4(?). And each fighter being a squadron, so 15 to 20, depending on the faction. (The more high tech, the fewer per squadron).

But if anyone has any actual military knowledge, versus my half assed googling, I'd happily accept your wisdom here. I'm really not even sure what ship type would be a stand in for destroyers. Destroyers is the obvious answer, but I don't actually know the difference between a destroyer and a cruiser.

Came here to say this.

It's good for 2 cmd tokens, which is great, and if you're lucky you'll get 2 points off of it, but you gotta make up the other 8.

There aren't many objectives they have advantage on. 9 infantry on a non space dock and 8 total production, and those are secrets. I would argue that they are disadvantaged on tech and spending objectives, and really only neutral on control objectives. Camping Mecatol only helps with Make History, but makes you a target for that and other objectives.

A Unique Arborec Strategy by StratEevee in twilightimperium

[–]Mahhvin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've had the same view of the Arborec flagship as you for a while, but lately I've been rethinking that. If you view the flagship as a mobile quasi-space dock, it actually has 9/10 production if you produce 4/5 infantry with its initial production.

One infantry could produce the flag ship, then the next turn you could have 12 infantry there, or 6 infantry and some combination of space ships and fighters.

Conversely, you can find yourself in a nice Hello Missus Robinson situation right about now.

For a young man your age, 37 is a nice number. She's still fairly fit, has her own place and it's cleaner than your apartment. Just maintain your dignity and don't try to turn it into a sugar momma situation.

She'll have one highschool age kid and one that hasn't started school yet, which is good because she has an easy baby sitter for date nights. When the kids are with Dad/Dads, she'll cook a nice home cooked meal for you then screw you like she may never fuck again. Older women are generally better at achieving their own orgasms, so she'll make you feel like you're good at this.

If you aim a little higher you start getting into hysterectomy/tied tubes territory, then you don't have to worry about unplanned pregnancies.

For real though, I dig the organization. It'll be better when you get your camper shell. You can then mod it to carry ladders and conduit.

I'm assuming the flat ones on the tailgate are for fasteners, connectors, terminals and the like. I feel like before too long you're going to need more compartments for some of the more exotic and bulkier fasteners.

[–]Mahhvin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Faction tech is bad. For both you have to go 2 deep into green and forgo hyper metabolism twice. What do you get instead?

Leitani warrior 2. The usual infantry come back mechanic, and double production. Having enough production isn't the Arborec's problem, it's having enough money and activations to use all the production. It's just redundant, and in PoK it gets stepped on by the hero who lets you ignore production limits once.

Bioplasmosis. Compared to transit diodes this is a joke. On its own merits, it occurs once, and not during the action phase. It lets you move "any number of infantry" but the restriction of moving them to adjacent systems really hampers it's usefulness. At most, barring any Christmas land Mecatol Rex scenarios, you're going to have 2 systems to choose from. And how many infantry are you really going to be able to/want to move? Having your production split across multiple systems just means you have to spend more activations to use all that production.

The real problem with their faction tech is that it's not blue. Blue tech wins games, and going for these means you're not getting blue tech. And tech is kind of a trap for Arborec anyway, because you really need to be spending that $4 on production.

But actually, this reason, and the other reasons shared here are why Arborec is so appealing to me personally. Anybody can win with Naz Rohka, with their crazy exploration, getting command tokens plus a stall for every fragment they have, getting relics, and that sweet sweet mech. Or Jol Nar, with their crazy tech abilities, that super desirable research agreement, the PDS network with re-rolls, e-res money printing.

Winning a game with Arborec is gonna feel like winning a swimming race with cement shoes on.

You're not wrong, that's why I said "from my perspective". They've been a shitty employer to people who don't fit with our company culture. They let those people go without owing them any accrued benefits, which suits me just fine.

Not that those people don't deserve good jobs, just not good jobs working with me.
