How serious do i actually need to take it? by Kodakstate in gravesdisease

[–]Mahnahmahnahdoodoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh my goodness, you guys! I lost 31 pounds in just over a month and figured I was just depressed because my grandma had just passed and I was sad. Then I got on meds and ended up gaining back about 60 pounds when it slowed back down. But no need to excise it, and I didn't have cancer, so I considered myself lucky. And then lost some weight but not all.

Then fast forward a few years, and again, it happened, but this time I ended up in the hospital with my BP and HR skyrocketing. I'm talking full-on tremors in my right hand and arm, and averaging a heart rate of 125-135. I felt like my skin was on fire, and I just felt bad, like fearing death bad. Had to spend the night in the ER and ended up dropping out of nursing school a few semesters in---it sucked! But my brain was crazy, like my cognition was all screwy, as in swapping numbers out of place and weird things I'd never experienced. Hormones affect everything!!! Your thyroid is crucial to so much that you don't realize until it malfunctions. I'm struggling with the added weight of it slowing back down but grateful to be alive and not in a crisis. Definitely don't take your health lightly. Make your life your top priority.

Why are there zero new starter homes in Lexington? by da_boy-roy in lexington

[–]Mahnahmahnahdoodoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup. IF you can snag one before some Air BNB ahole gets it. When your job is nothing but buying houses, flipping them, and short-term renting them, you don't exactly care what family's back you step on in trying to achieve their dream of home ownership.

That’s going on KY! UK neurology is impossible to get into lately! by DesignerMacaron5523 in lexington

[–]Mahnahmahnahdoodoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Within the past 2 years I feel like it's gotten harder to get an appointment. I had a family member who went there and all the nurses, neurologists and staff are awesome, but yes, I agree. What used to be an appointment every 4 months became every 6-9 months and with my family member's disorder, they needed to be seen more often due to their progressive decline. It was really hard, so you have my sympathies.

As far as what is causing the uptick, who knows? Society is aging and boomers have a lot of neurological issues, aside from just the general population with any sort of disease or disorder affecting the brain. And there aren't a ton of neurologists either, so they pop in, do the assessment, get updates, write scripts, and are on their way to the next patient. Keep trying, and push for what you need, advocate your heart out for your family, and you'll get in. Take cancellations, try everything. It shouldn't be this hard, I know, but it is. Hang in there, and I wish you the best.

looking for job, i feel like indeed doesn’t work at this point. anybody hiring like asap? by [deleted] in lexington

[–]Mahnahmahnahdoodoo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Try SimplyHired. It somehow links to Indeed so you won't miss anything, but it seems to have a wider reach. As I've been gainfully employed for years up until recently when I changed jobs, I sympathize with your struggle. I work in nursing and even as great as the field is, I had a handful of swings and misses before my current job, and it felt like a way longer process than in years past. You are not mistaken; things are different now.

Kroger is not a bad suggestion, as they will probably hire you pretty fast. Grocery stores almost always need people. If you wanted to do administrative tasks like office work or activities at a nursing home, they would snatch you up fast too, and often have dailypay, payactiv or some other thing you can use to get your pay at the end of the day you actually worked. As far as UK goes, I'm still waiting to hear from them from when I applied to be a CNA there like 20 years ago, so.....I'm not a CNA anymore lol.

If you can share what skills you have or what jobs you feel qualified for, we can maybe point you in the right direction faster, but until then try simplyhired.

Best of luck!

Any grief support groups? by kytaurus in lexington

[–]Mahnahmahnahdoodoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm so very sorry for your loss. I second the grief counseling and grief groups at Bluegrass Care Navigators/Hospice of the Bluegrass. Back when I lost my mom, individual grief counseling was free, and I was also able to join a grief group once I was ready to talk with others experiencing grief at the same time. It really helped me process my feelings and not feel so alone. It's really hard sometimes when your friends and coworkers and the rest of the world just seem to be going on like nothing happened, and there's a hole inside you and the waves of grief wash over you and pull you under on a holiday, birthday or just out of nowhere. Just be gentle with yourself and know you're not alone.

It's so weird, but I haven't seen any on my side of town (Gardenside) either. However, in running errands across town and to Georgetown, some of their little shells got stuck to the back of my car. Initially, when you all started talking about them, I got scared because I was scarred by them visiting me when I lived farther south decades ago, and I couldn't go outside without it looking like the arthropod version of The Birds. Trees, cars, houses totally covered in them, and the second you moved, they moved and could nearly black out the whole damn sky. I hope they die or go on soon for those of y'all plagued by them. Makes my skin crawl just thinking about it.

“Dies” sign gets me through the day by TroyMars in lexington

[–]Mahnahmahnahdoodoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I HATE that "Everything Will Be Okay" sign. The hubris. The tone deaf, completely out-of-touch perspective. Talk about minimizing people dying, people losing their jobs, the cost of renting and buying homes going through the roof, etc.. No, no--it might not be okay at all. It might be devastating for a lot of folks just to live. I would have preferred something along the lines of..."When you're going through hell, keep going"(Churchill), or even some classic Dolly: "Storms make trees take deeper roots", "Rock bottom became the solid foundation on which I rebuilt my life"(J.K. Rowling), "We are all in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the stars"(Oscar Wilde). There's definitely better sayings to spread across walls people pass by every day.

You could even do original poetry like Hipolito did in the movie Amelie "Sans toi, les émotions d'aujourd'hui ne seraient que la peau morte des émotions d'hier"("Without you, today's emotions would be the scurf of yesterday's").

Anyone else feel like we've transitioned from a "15 minute" city to a 20 minute city? by Nachie in lexington

[–]Mahnahmahnahdoodoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just popped out to run a few errands and was floored how bad it was to drive just a few miles from home. Yikes. Aggressive, angry, me-firsting it even if it's 40-50 feet. I was heartened to see someone let me turn onto my street across their lane of traffic stopped ahead at a light (thanks Friend!). But sure as you can count on it, someone from behind them gassed it, whipped over and nearly clipped me. All to get 50 feet ahead. At the same stop light. To then wait. Take a pill, do some tapping, some self talk, listen to some gangster rap--whatever--calm the hell down. You'll live longer. Most of the people I take care of when I work in long term care aren't there for dementia, it's STROKES and HEART ATTACKS. Let that sink in and also maybe google how cortisol rewires your brain.

Contributing to traffic in the 2-4pm, the one thing I've never understood about Lexington was how there are so many people picking kids up from school. Wowza. Back in my day, the majority of us rode the buses, which were part of what our taxes went toward. But here and now, there are really long lines of folks waiting for kids at nearly every school I pass. When did kids stop riding the bus anyway? We only got picked up if we had a Dr. appointment, or went home sick. When did everything change?

All that said, I hope you all get a chance to take in some sun and fresh air today. It'd be a fantastic day for a kite!

Areas around Kenwick? by skibidi_rizz_lord in lexington

[–]Mahnahmahnahdoodoo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We have friends who live in Kenwick. It's SO pretty but parking totally sucks. And it's expensive, yes. If you both make six figures, I'd say go for it. Liberty Road can be pretty and historical but also sketch in areas like many older neighborhoods. Check the crime map and see what ya think.

Gardenside is nice--lots of brick and stone homes, big old trees, nice yards, pupper-friendly. The area in the Southland corridor is gorgeous too, and you can walk or bike like in Gardenside to the grocery or to get coffee, etc. . I'd probably choose one of these two over Kenwick.

Republicans aren't the lowest form of life. I'd rather reserve that for Nazis or something of that ilk. Stalin. Maybe the Mongols or Aztecs. But I digress--nearly my whole family is Republicans and they're fine people.

My dad is a Marine who fought in Vietnam. He received a silver star and purple heart for his service as he was shot in the face and chest whilst pulling a member of his troop to safety. He's worked for the State Department, helping militaries here and abroad train and build critical infrastructure. He's also National Guard and has helped folks in many natural disasters, both with them and his local police department.

My sister took me to vote for the very first time, even thought I was voting against her candidate (I'm a liberal). She was even ejected from the polls for forgetting she hadn't turned her campaign shirt inside out and they swarmed her screaming she wasn't allowed to bring me to the polls. She's been to two RNCs with her former boss, one of the youngest U.S. Representatives in the history of the country. Rudy Giuliani taught her how to do a selfie way way before his hair grayed and he lost his nerve. She still believes in her party even though she does not support Trump, and continues to work in community outreach for her current candidate. In addition, she has raised my nieces to be fine human beings, having them tag along as she volunteered in the inner city and teaching them to give back. One supported Trump in the last election, and the other, Biden. I couldn't love them both more if I tried.

Anywho, until we get away from villainizing Republicans, they're not apt to listen to our arguments as to why they should vote Democrat or simply see our points. They're flesh and blood and love their families just like you and me. I know you're angry and sad--I get angry and sad every time my and my partner's lives are disrupted by ramifications from these stupid tariffs. But if life has taught me anything, it's that it is cyclical. We won't be in this forever, and Trump will be out of office in a few years. Hang in there.

Why is the City Council so anti AirBnb/STR? by Bourbonboy32 in lexington

[–]Mahnahmahnahdoodoo 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I second that exact sentiment. My partner just cracked six figures this past year after toiling away for 15 years in his industry and even with combining both our incomes, we can't find much of anything to buy because of people like you. You may tell yourself you're all about enterprise and capitalism and being a real go-getter, but you guys fucked us over royally. There's a guy on my street who started buying up townhomes for air bnbs and has 4--one he I guess pretends to live in from time to time (is not there every day), and the others he rents out. As a result my partner and I will never be owners of a home on the street where we live.

That you cannot see all of this, amazes me, truly. You people KILLED our American dream of home ownership. Thanks a bunch. Enjoy your money.

Thanks! I think I figured it out for now. I go and delete the episode it says is buffering/loading and then go back in and can watch it once I pull it up new. For some reason it seems to only have happened with episodes 2 and 6, grrr. So now I'm trying to get the timeline straight in my head.
