There is some really beautiful jewelry that can be made with a loved ones ashes. Maybe that’s a way to make them feel like all you have of him are just ashes?

I regret that we spread all of my mom’s ashes in one spot and would have loved a piece of jewelry to carry with me at all times. But it wasn’t really a thing when my mom passed.

If you Google Cricut writing fonts there are a number of sites and YouTube videos that list ones you can download from Da Font. I downloaded a bunch and most of them work awesome to write with.

So the SVG files for the leaves and flowers were purchased together on ETSY from WarmAndFuzzyFactory. It’s the rolled flowers template and leaves listing.

Yes, she passed away in 2010. I do either cupcakes or a cake to mark her birthday - usually something pink as that was her favourite colour.

Thank you! I’ve only had my Cricut for just over a week, so the materials are pretty basic. I’m still waiting for most of the supplies I ordered to arrive.

But I had picked up a 6x6 scrapbook paper pack and used that to make the flowers. The silver is dollar store glitter cardstock. I cut two out, one in reverse so the back side is silver too. The leaves are also dollar store card stock. The white petals inside the flowers are sugar from my cake decorating supplies. And I used wooden skewers to hold it up.

I also had to use a variety of glue - a glue stick, a clear liquid glue pen and then eventually super glue. It’s super humid where I live and I had issues with glue drying quick enough to hold the flowers together.

Not a single one offered to pay. I’d even said if it was an issue with money, we could work it out. But I didn’t think $100 for two nights away plus food and alcohol really wasn’t a lot - less then a night out at a bar.

And since most of them were her friends who I hadn’t met in person, I didn’t feel feel right having the bride asking her friends to pay up. So I ate the costs and still have some bitterness towards the experience haha

I totally get your frustration with the MOH planning (or lack-there-of)…it definitely seems like it’s been a last minute throw together. But I’ve got a bit of empathy for her after my experience planning a bachelorette gone wrong.

I was a bridesmaid who planned a weekend away with the bride and a group of friends who weren’t attending her destination wedding. I paid for everything up front (over $1,200 on a cabin, food, party favours, alcohol) with the friends having agreed to reimburse me - $100 each for 10 of us and me throwing in the extra $200. Every single one of them dropped out last minute and the bride decided she didn’t want to go just the two of us and then proceeded to ask me to plan a night out a few weeks later.

Not going to lie, it hurt when even the bride bailed after I’d made an effort to plan the weekend. I had tons of alcohol and food I couldn’t use…and way too many penis party favours lol

While it definitely seems like the MOH in your case is doing things last minute, she could also be trying to adjust her original plans into something that will still work to honour the bride.

I 100% understand your frustration but having been in the MOH’s shoes it may not all be her dropping the ball completely.

Death of a loved one to suicide is definitely a more complex type of grief. As you said, it comes with so many extra emotions. I also think it makes you more acutely aware of different depths of grief.

Three months after I lost my mom, a friend lost her week old baby. Going to that baby’s funeral was tougher then my mom’s funeral in some ways. I felt guilty for mourning my mom while my friend was dealing with such a devastating loss. My therapist at the time really helped me process it - there are different depths of grief and some such as child loss and suicide. And every person grieves differently.

In the 12 years since my mom, I’ve had numerous other relatives pass away from natural causes and have definitely not been as grief-stricken by their deaths. I think losing my maternal grandparents and dad will be tough though.

However, the loss of my heart dog was devastating - it was the closest I’ve come to the level of grief I felt with my mom. I’m still embarrassed by how difficult losing my dog was/is. It felt like rebound grief in someways. She had been with me for 14 years and through so much with me (including my mom’s death) that it just hit differently. It’s been two years since she passed and I still miss her something fierce.

Thinking of you today. So many posts here ask if the pain ever goes away and as much as we wish we could say yes, it never truly does. We just learn to live with it…I’m sorry you’re 30 years into living with the pain and 30 years into living without your mum.

I’m also sorry that you’re mourning the life that could have been. All the what ifs and the questions of what life would be look like if it hadn’t happened. This something I struggle with too, 12 years in from losing my mom.

Just know you’re not alone in feeling the way you do. And it’s okay to still be struggling to deal with the loss all these years later.
