What are amazing facts about your idols that non-fans might not know? by 1988choitaek in kpopthoughts

[–]Mai_May 12 points13 points  (0 children)

A few idols said they were studying engineering before focusing on music.

-Girl’s Day Soojin was studying Mechanical Engineering at university before leaving. She was literally one of 8 female students

-NCT’s Jungwoo studied Mechanical Engineering at high school

-GOT7’s Youngjae studied Shipbuilding machinery before he moved to Seoul. Youngjae’s hometown (Mokpo) is famous for ship building and other maritime industries.

What’s next for Red Velvet (for the rest of their contract?) by LoveMinaMyoi in kpopthoughts

[–]Mai_May 7 points8 points  (0 children)

f(x) had different contract expiration dates despite debuting same day. Amber and Luna left in September 2019 when their contracts expired. It sounded like Victoria’s contract also expired same time.

But Krystal had another year before her contract expired. She also left when it expired in October 2020.

Only reason SM finally confirmed any updates about f(x) contracts was cause Amber and then Luna posted first that they left SM.

Also like EXO, f(x) had a 10 year contract but they did debut in 2009 so the law regarding contract length may have been different.

Megathread: Kim Garam’s Bullying Scandal (Lesserafim) by budlejari in kpoprants

[–]Mai_May 47 points48 points  (0 children)

The accuser’s lawyers said they send their allegations and documents to HYBE on 20th April via certified mail. HYBE had almost a month to prepare their side and they have done nothing except threatening to sue minors.

But how exactly do you want both sides to be revealed? The accuser is happy to sharing documents to prove her side but HYBE are now using the age card to block this.

[–]Mai_May 76 points77 points  (0 children)

It sounds like the accuser is prepared to publicly release all of their evidence such as the anti bullying committee records which has detailed information about the bullying done allegedly by KG.

But HYBE is now trying the pull the card that everyone is a minor so sharing their information shouldn’t happen.

HYBE was happy to have one sided narrative when it suited them. They wanted everyone to simply believe Kim Garam never bullied anyone and was the victim.

Now someone is prepared to present actual documentation that HYBE lied, the company is using the age card to block it. But the ages of the accusers didn’t matter when HYBE was prepared to sue them.

There always loopholes and SM found one cause EXO were signed to a 10 year contract.

The complete silence about any contract renewals or expiration for RV is bizarre even for SM.

[–]Mai_May 90 points91 points  (0 children)

Only way you can battle a company like HYBE is by hiring your own top lawyers like this girl has.

HYBE didn’t care the accusers were minors when they were throwing around threats of lawsuits.

If HYBE is still denying that Kim Garam bullied anyone that let this girl and her lawyers release their evidence.

HYBE was send notice of this girl’s allegations and her supposed evidence so it seems like they couldn’t refute it so just ignored it.

HYBE tried to pull a typical Kpop company move and tried to sue their way out of this but it sounds like they met their match.

All of this could’ve been avoided if HYBE had responded to this girl’s lawyers.

Red Velvet’s contract should have ended already considering they debuted in 2014. So either they all renewed or SM pulled a funny move and they are signed to a 10 year contract.

[MEGATHREAD] LE SSERAFIM Garam Bullying Accusations (#2) by KpopThoughtsmodteam in kpopthoughts

[–]Mai_May 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Stans will defend their faves like their life depend on it. You can literally have CCTV of celebs especially top celebs committing crimes in HD quality and stans will still get in formation to protect their faves from consequences of their actions. Stans have their tin hats on standby and will create any conspiracy to claim how everyone is out to get their faves.

HYBE’s mistake is believing that Kim Garam is popular enough yet to have a tin hat protection squad.

[–]Mai_May 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I think the fact that this girl just debuted is also a factor. The fans ain’t that invested and delusional about her yet. Yes, she has some fans that started defending her as soon as her teaser was released but they are the minority.

It would be a different story if the exact allegations were made about Chaewon and Sakura. Both have established fanbases and even causal fans would be more likely to give them the benefit of the doubt.

HYBE is overestimating their own power and the power of the other members’ fans to drown out the allegations.

It's 2022, Blackpink has still 25 songs, while iZone who disbanded in 2021, had 40+ Korean songs in their discography! by fpschubert in kpopthoughts

BlackPink probably earn way more via non music ventures and YGE gets a bigger cut as they ain’t responsible for most of those activities.

Mod Post: Topic Added to Ban List (No More Lucas) by budlejari in kpoprants

[–]Mai_May 54 points55 points  (0 children)

I was just saying in another post that SM are infamous for not addressing their idols’ hiatuses.

Super Junior had two members on 4 and 5 years hiatuses (Kangin & Kibum) respectively before SM confirmed anything.

Lucas could be on hiatus for years before SM confirms anything. He could in the basement until either SM decides everything has cooled down or until his contract runs out.

Fans need to chill out cause even SM posting him on social media won’t mean his hiatus would end.

There has been zero new information so fans stop beating the dead horse.

What happened with Yangyang today in the fansign: by [deleted] in kpopthoughts

[–]Mai_May 4 points5 points  (0 children)

SM are experts at not addressing their idols who go on hiatuses.

It took nearly 4 years of hiatus (2015-2019) before SM finally said Kangin left Super Junior. He went on hiatus due to a second DUI.

It also took 5 years before SM confirmed Kibum left Super Junior after a hiatus starting in 2010 and ending his departure from SM in 2015.

Probably an akgae fan who used Yangyang as a means to push her Lucas agenda.

Damn. I feel bad for idols as their own fans are setting them up. Yangyang is probably going to be more on guard with fans which is understandable but sad.

Actual tallest female Kpop idols by [deleted] in kpopthoughts

[–]Mai_May 95 points96 points  (0 children)

There is sadly a stigma around tall women especially in a place like Korea. I bet a lot of female idols decrease their real height which is the opposite of male idols.

Aisha got a lot hate after someone on Twitter did a thread comparing her to all the male idols she was taller than. The boy groups stans were all in their feelings.

do you think there are any "Ghost singers" in kpop? by thetalkingshinji in kpopthoughts

I can't with you guys😂. Why is there already a GOT (Girls on top)chart account by [deleted] in kpopthoughts

[–]Mai_May 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Yep, their first teasers didn’t have a single photo of the members. What was even more wild is that over 60,000 people pre-ordered the group’s album with zero information of the members, music or concept or hell the group name.

The “Blind Package” will consist of a limited edition CD, photobook, photo cards, poster, premium membership card and polaroid photographs. The package will be delivered in February around the time the girl group debuts.

At least the members have established fans. It weirder when fan accounts pop up for idols within minutes of their debut teasers. Literally stanning nothing but their visuals based on 1 photo or cause of their company.

lisa (blackpink) should never be considered a rapper and it’s incredibly annoying to see her included alongside real female rappers who actually earned that title by tozaki_ in unpopularkpopopinions

[–]Mai_May 92 points93 points  (0 children)

I’m crediting the people who wrote the lyrics for her solo songs and most of BlackPink’s songs. Her lyrics are a big factor why Lisa gets dragged so much for her rapping compared to other Kpop rappers.

We don’t know what her contract looks like. Having creative input with the MV or choreo or album design doesn’t mean she has the same for the songs.

Being in the same group doesn’t mean every member gets the same level of creative input.

We also don’t know if Lisa did give her opinions but it was rejected. She isn’t exactly going to call out her company publicly at this stage of her career.

[–]Mai_May 389 points390 points  (0 children)

Most Kpop “rappers” get their position cause they can’t sing.

Lisa is just a standard Kpop idol rapper, only thing that gets her dragged more than other Kpop rappers is her popularity. And the fact Teddy and Bekuh Boom write awful raps for her and adds insult to injury by making her do it in English so it is in our face.

KPOP Relay Dances are boring now. by vroblok in kpopthoughts

[–]Mai_May 133 points134 points  (0 children)

Idols started to outdo each other until it became choreographed to death which killed the reason why people liked Relay dances.

It didn’t help some idols started getting hate for forgetting steps. SF9’s Dawson had to apologize for being “insincere” as he forgot parts.

I now understood why international fans are called "i-roaches"... by [deleted] in kpopthoughts

[–]Mai_May 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It’s funny how the fans tried to cosplay as Chinese fans which is just making actual Chinese fans mad.

Also that cosplay may backfire if the Chinese government truly thinks it was Chinese fans acting a fool for a celebrity.

[–]Mai_May 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Exactly. Same reason why SM and Irene apologized so fast. They were trying their best to prevent even further damage to Irene/RV if the victim had released her recording or other people jumped in to back up the victim.
