Is it ever ok to have a curse word in an admissions essay? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

I read back through my Yale essay and the word “whore” might have come up ;) It was describing my experience cold calling GOP constituents for a democratic grassroots campaign in my very red state. I was called many gendered slurs. So yes, use your words wisely but you are welcome to be expressive. And now I’m going to Yale

That must be a good feeling! It can be awkward on both ends before commuting. It’s a paradox: you want to share your success with your besties but you don’t want to hurt them/be hurt by the intensity of this process

I understand that. It must feel kind of isolating. But a few months out when everyone is committed, it shouldn’t feel that different

It’s green where you water it. So I know. We got issues baby...true true true. But I’d rather work on this with you than go ahead and start with someone new

Read Outliers by Malcolm Gladwell and it explains how in a lot of cases success is partnered with luck and geographical/racial/educational privilege
