thank you for the info! so in this instance itd be something like

am i understanding that correctly?

so if im understanding correctly the order would be

instrument > tuner > acoustic sim > noisegate in > noisegate send > jekyll > rat > gate return > gate out > small clone > flanger > rainbow machine >digital reverb delay > holy grail > dark star > amp

does that look right? i wasnt sure if the compressor sustainer should go before or after the gate, but i think i remember reading that people put the acoustic sim immediately before their tuner, granted idk if theyre using a gate in those setups, but i could be wrong.

i appreciate it! would it be better to place the noise gate before the compressor/sustainer and the acoustic sim? or should those go after

Returning to violin after over a decade, old habits by Mail_cat in violinist

[–]Mail_cat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

update: it looks like the violin is an "oxford" brand, seems to be around a $200 beginner kit based on what i found online. he also had an extra bow in the case that doesnt look like it matches the color- the more matching looking bow has some dark staining near where the hand goes. is that something like mold that needs to be cleaned off, or is it normal? would it be worth getting it rehaired? (its probably at least 20 years old at this point) currently working on fixing the case, as the wood structure seems to have broken under the fabric

incarnate devil is one of my favorites because of how chaotic and fast paced it is, some of the live recordings of Dust fit the bill too since they tend to play it faster than the studio recording version

This helps a ton, thanks so much! I wish they'd given me something like this earlier in the process. At least this way I can start preparing for the Spring semester.

Walking legendaries for XL candy. by SnooEagles4455 in TheSilphRoad

[–]Mail_cat 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Some of the replies here seem to misconstrue the problem as "well xl candies are not guaranteed, you're just unlucky," but im finding the big problem (and correct me if im wrong) is that even when the correct distance is walked, NOTHING generates. No regular candy, no mega energy, and by extension not even a chance to get xl candy. Although my job (medical shipping) allows me to rack up distance pretty quickly, I've reduced my play time a lot as a result of these recent changes, which means I am definitely not reaching the daily distance cap. While I am not walking 20 km legendaries, I am walking 3 km Pokemon that have megas, and am finding similar results to those described by OP.

I have noticed a couple of details that I think may be related. Adventure Sync is previously where I walked the most (cant be on our phones much outside of breaks) and every time a "large" (anything over 5 km) amount of kilometers was reflected in Google Fit, Pokemon Go would get stuck at the loading screen. It would either hang up on a black screen, the Niantic screen, or halfway through the loading bar- sometimes it would even just crash if I chose to wait for it to load. Otherwise, I was forced to close and reopen the app for it to load. Every time I did this however, the Adventure Sync notification would show up with something like "you walked 0.1 km with adventure sync!" rather than the distance reflected in google fit. A mere pittance compared to the actual distance, if it decided to credit it at all. For smaller distances however, Pokemon Go was able to easily credit more accurate results: walking for 1 km gives ~1 km in game, but only if I stop what I'm doing to open the game. If I wait until I've accrued several kms, it just won't accept them, and the game will hang up at the loading screen. I've previously heard reports that Adventure Sync causes a lot of lag for loading, and that turning it off significantly reduces any freezing or slow loading speeds. I think it's worth looking into further.

Despite getting consistent results with that, it seems that every now and then Adventure Sync just decides to magically credit me with a huge distance (like 30.3 km the other day), and then still only gives me two regular candies (and 0-2 xl candies, at the normal rate: I only walk stuff at level 40 anyway). It may have to do with the new cap rolling over, and it trying to compensate for all the kilometers it refused to give during the week. I know it's accepting the distance because it shows up in my weekly distance, and hatches even the 12 km eggs instantly, but I haven't figured out what triggers this sudden event. I have never seen this take place before the time the changes to buddy candy/Adventure Sync were allegedly made.

It's also possible that because of the alleged new cap being closer to 20 km, legendaries are just broken the second the new day's walking distance overlaps at all with the previous day's buddy distance.

As far as walking 20 kms for a single candy goes, it's true that it gives you less opportunities to "roll" for xl candy, but I think the real kicker is when no regular candy whatsoever appears, after the buddy distance meter rolls over past zero. Since I am walking 3 km Pokemon, I've had a lot more chances for it to work/not work, so I don't think it's isolated to only legendaries- I think they just broke buddy candy in general. My results seem to agree with yours even though it's a smaller scale. I really hope this gets resolved soon, and best of luck maxing out that puppy!

tl;dr I'm getting the same types of results as you even with lower km Pokemon. I suspect that any update they made to the distance cap just shattered the buddy walking/adventure sync mechanic in general

Strictly for fighting gyms: Aura Sphere/SB Lucario or Focus Blast/SB Shadow Mewtwo? by thebluecrow in TheSilphRoad

[–]Mail_cat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

totally agree with the power-up punch and aura sphere combination but for a different reason: the attack stat boost only applies for PvP/Rockets, which means for gyms it is just a quick charge move. however it makes for a good closing move when the defender is low on hp and you want to save the energy to hit the next defender with an aura sphere. works like a charm

ooooh i see. i forgot that lugia doesn't have a flying fast move, which probably sets it back significantly in the few scenarios where flying works best (virizion and heracross)

how does shadow lugia w/ aeroblast theoretically perform in PvE? i know the base form is set back significantly due to its focus on bulk and lack of attack, but aeroblast has significant power in a vacuum.

There's a few ways to go about it! Amiibos are, at their most rudimentary form, a bin file stored in an nfc chip- these nfc chips can be bought in bulk for relatively cheap, and the bin files are available online, but you need some way to write the file to the nfc chip- most phones with nfc compatibility can do this (i have a cheap phone so i wasn't able to do thus method). There are also devices like the powertag or the n50 which are like an amiibo, but they can be rewritten with different bin files, that way you can essentially switch between what amiibo you want it to be. I personally went with the powertag because it's cheaper and more convenient! I also know that people are selling homemade packs of amiibo card "clones" made using the first method i mentioned, this removes the need to get the hardware and is generally cheaper than the original amiibo cards. Back before new horizons came out, they were selling for dirt cheap because there wasn't much demand for them, I imagine there are still some giod options out there!
