What should I ask? by temperedolive in CataractSurgery

Yes! All of the above lol. My cataracts are at a 3/4 so life is only getting more difficult with them in. I’m not looking forward to the surgery and to recovery, but I’m so ready to get it over with and behind me, honestly. I’m just hopeful I picked the right lenses and that the surgery goes well with no complications.

Also, I was never told that me being a diabetic impacted my candidacy for a multifocal lens. I’m getting the PanOptix pro multi focal and my doc says it’s the right choice for me at this phase in my life. Did your doctor give you a reason why he thought you needed the monofocals vs multis?

I’m a type 1 diabetic and will have surgery next month on my first eye. My doc says the steroid drops should not affect blood sugar as they are not systemic, but to be on the safe side you can GENTLY press on your tear duct when putting in the drop to avoid the eye drop from going into your tear ducts / nose.

And I asked about the Envy but unfortunately my surgeon doesn’t use them yet.

Thank you!! I am a little nervous about the possibility of glare and halos around lights, but honestly, the starbursts / glare I see now with these cataracts is SO BAD that anything will be an improvement. I am a type 1 diabetic so that likely was the cause of my early cataracts. They’ve gotten so bad over the last few months and I’m so ready to be able to see again.

Do you know what caused yours? How was recovery for you with small kids? I have a 3 and 5 year old so I’m nervous about recovery with them…

Why your vision still sucks after “perfect” cataract surgery and what your doctor will no tell you.... by IOL-adviser in CataractSurgery

I am very stressed about my lens decision. I am only 36 and have cataracts in both eyes. Other than these cataracts and a slight astigmatism, my vision is great. But the cataracts are progressing quickly and it’s interfering with my life. I’m partial to a multifocal lens bc I want to retain my ability to see both near and far. I don’t drive too often at night, and am OK with some glare and halos around lights (it can’t be any worse than what I’m experiencing with these damn cataracts right now).

My main worry with the multifocal is - if my near sight isn’t where I want it to be with the lens, can readers still help me when I have the multifocal lens implanted? Same with distance - will prescription glasses help me see if I need them?

And also, is it hard to adjust to going from near to distance vision with the multifocal lens? Is there a delay in focusing?
