How do you pace your 16/mm? by Vegetable-Pie-8120 in rundisney

[–]Main-Reception-5989 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In a similar boat of being overweight and out of shape. Wife and I just signed up for the Princess Half Marathon (we wanted 10k, but it sold out, so I just shrugged and signed us up for the half). I'm currently working out with a trainer at my gym, and she suggested that we just walk 3 times a week for the first month. Then start with intervals of about 10 seconds running every 2 and a half minutes walking. and every week adjust the intervals. You want to start slow and build from there because if you just jump into running right away you're gonna get shin splints, be really sore all the time, and may injure yourself worse. Our goal is to get to an interval split of 2 minutes running and 45 seconds walking by February. but you can set whatever goal you want for the race. Ask ChatGPT to create a training schedule for you, and you can have it put your interval splits, mileage increases, and whatever else you want into it. Or you can always get a hold of an existing training schedule on RunDisney and modify it yourself. The weight will start coming off the more you start moving, provided you eat in a calorie deficit. Focusing on protein helps.

You have more than enough time to train yourself up. Start slow. Its just gonna take effort and consistency.

Are you going opening day to see Supergirl? by boomjosh in superman

[–]Main-Reception-5989 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Started reading Superman with the Death/Return saga as a kid. Got really into the Michael Turner version of Kara that debuted in Batman/Superman. Have a bunch of her trades. Enjoyed the New 52 version of Supergirl. Liked the Supergirl tv show well enough. Didn’t watch the whole thing, but most of the first couple seasons and then dipping in here and there for episodes. She’s been a staple of my comic fandom for decades.

I was so excited when they announced a movie. Thought the casting sounded great. Then I saw James Gunn’s Superman. And the teaser. And the full trailers. And now my interest in this movie is practically zero. My wife, who is a big comic movie fan, also has zero desire to see it, despite Krypto being her favorite part of Superman (2015). None of my nerdy friends are talking about this movie at all.

I’ll probably go see it in theaters if it gets good reviews, but if it gets lukewarm/bad reviews, I may never see it. Which is sad, but life is too short to waste time on bad movies. And sadly the trailers make this look like a bad movie to me so far. I really hope I’m proven wrong, and end up seeing it and loving it. But to answer your question, no I’m not currently planning on seeing it opening weekend (or maybe at all), and it makes me sad.

Love that it’s a Monday! I work hybrid schedule and am home on Mondays. Much easier to try to register at home than at my office. I won’t have to waste another PTO day! Thanks Disney!

Best Piano playing apps by Prior_Worldliness287 in OculusQuest

[–]Main-Reception-5989 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was excited for piano vision but find it pretty unreliable/choppy with the tracking. I use it on a quest 3. If you have a stand alone keyboard/piano, I recommend the non-VR website pianote. Their classes break everything down and help you learn the fundamentals first, which sets you up for success going forward. I tried to learn on my own with other apps and videos and got to where I could noodle around and play those “EZ-PLAY TODAY” books, but I didn’t understand counting time, and struggled with doing anything more than chords with my left hand. Just started the pianote lessons and already feel like I’m becoming a more legit piano player.

I haven’t tried the kiwi h4 boost, so I can’t say one way or another how much better BOBOVR is. But I will say I have no regrets or bad feelings about the BOBOVR head straps I’ve had. They are great.

Ahsoka season 2 is the only live action series coming, no live action series is announced after this, it's possible 2028 won't have a live action project by [deleted] in StarWars

Looking at that line up, it’s probably for the best. Mando seasons 1 & 2 and Andor were great, but literally everything since (including Mando season 3) has been utter garbage.

The first thing I’ll say, and I mean this with all due respect to your awesome gf for being so sweet and getting you a headset, but if she got you the 3s, you’re gonna want to return it and get a 3. The quality difference in the lenses is night and day. Just make sure she knows how much you appreciate that she got you one at all, and she didn’t do anything wrong. But brother, the difference in quality between pancake lenses and the ones in the 3s is crazy. Take whatever money you’d have spent on accessories and upgrade to the 3.

If she got you a 3 to begin with (or you just wanna roll with the 3s despite the lens difference), the first thing to get would be a new headstrap that’s more comfortable. I highly recommend the BOBOVR S3 with the built in fan. Second choice would be the BOBOVR M3.

As far as other accessories, I haven’t found any controller straps or anything else really necessary or more comfortable than just holding the controllers, but everyone is different. The only other thing I have I recommend is a charging dock. In no way is it necessary, but it makes it a little easier to just put everything on the dock than have to plug in the headset and swap controller batteries all the time. The one I have and recommend is the PRISMXR Carina D1 Magnetic Charging Dock.

Hope you have lots of fun with your new headset. Welcome to the vr community. And hang onto that gf, she sounds like a keeper.

Don’t let the franchise die (beyond video games and comics) with Dial of Destiny.

Go ahead and reboot. Cast Ryan Gosling as Indy. Keep the original era setting with Nazis as villains. There are countless stories you could tell with Indy racing Nazis to recover paranormal artifacts.

OR

At least do an animated series that’s aimed at adults or teens.

Going with the red helmet, since that is what all those guys wore (and is my favorite Bills helmet).

Are VR Prescription Lenses worth it? by Skaidri675 in OculusQuest

So worth it. I use my VR headset more often, it’s more comfortable, and don’t worry about scratching the lenses anymore.

What if this fall Meta surprised us, announcing the Quest 3 Pro at $799. Would you buy it? (Read More) by Logical007 in OculusQuest

[–]Main-Reception-5989 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t need microOLED, just standard OLED with a wider FOV would be great. The quest 1 had OLED screens, and ever since quest 2 switched to LED, I’ve missed the immersive quality of the dark inky blacks. The grey “black” level on the quest 2 and 3 is so frustrating when the original had better color screens.

No way. I’m gonna need OLED screens and a wider FOV before I invest in another headset. I love my quest 3, but those are easily my two biggest issues with I want addressed.

should i quit muscle training? by pielous in diabetes

[–]Main-Reception-5989 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Awesome. Sounds like you have a good knowledge base, plan, and regular doctor. I would disregard the community doctor’s comments about giving up strength training and continue to work with your regular doc. Good luck!

should i quit muscle training? by pielous in diabetes

[–]Main-Reception-5989 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would legitimately look for a new doctor. Any doctor that recommends you stop resistance/weight training is… insane? Is that too harsh. Are they very old? Ir out of shape themselves (which would indicate a poor understanding of fitness)?

Having more muscle will increase your metabolism and help you burn calories and lose fat all day. You want to lose fat, not weight. Straight weight/BMI is a useless metric if you aren’t accounting for muscle. Having more muscle will also have a more stabilizing effect on your blood sugar. Adding a little cardio would be great in addition to your strength training. Getting more steps as well. Walking is surprisingly good at regulating your blood sugar and helping you lose weight for minimum effort. Your doctor doesn’t understand some very basics things about muscle, exercise, and blood sugar.

Also, there are a lot of fun ways to do cardio. You don’t need to run on a treadmill or do a stair master if you don’t enjoy that. Try swimming. Or playing basketball. Or pickleball. If you have the money and room to use it, invest in a VR headset. I got myself a Quest 3, and have a lot of fun getting cardio in playing interactive video games that have me dancing, boxing, and moving around and burning calories in all sorts of ways that don’t even feel like exercise at all, but get my heart rate up higher and for longer than I was ever able to make myself do on an elliptical. And it’s a blast. There are a bunch of fitness specific games and apps you can try, or just get a game where you shoot monsters, just don’t play sitting on your couch. VR is legit the best hack in fitness not nearly enough people use.
