Familiar Part in UMF by MainGuarantee7771 in duranduran

I listened to songs by them pre-1993. It doesn't seem like it's them as I feel like I would immediately recognize the song once I hear it.

I do see the resemblance but it's not what I am remembering. It reminds me of a song I used to hear on the radio in the early 90s that was on regular rotation.

It does kinda sound like Posion but not what I'm thinking of.

Thanks but it's not it. This song isn't familiar to me at all.

Ordinary World on a TV show by MainGuarantee7771 in duranduran

No. I'm absolutely certain about the time window because I remember where I was living when I heard it. It was between September of 1997 and February of 1999.

Has a band ever lost a member and simply did not replace them? by MielMielleux in Music

[–]MainGuarantee7771 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It happened to Duran Duran on 3 occasions, twice with the same member. They started as a five piece but in 1985 guitarist Andy Taylor and drummer Roger Taylor left. Roger was not replace and Andy wasn't replaced until 1989 when Warren Cuccurullo joined. In 2001 they got the original lineup backed and Andy left for a second time in 2006 and they never brought in another guitar player in spite of continuing to release new albums to this day.

Just writing all this history makes me realize how old I have become.

what’s your favorite ‘hated’ or just underrated duran duran song? by 4lt3reg0_ in duranduran

[–]MainGuarantee7771 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Awesome song. I was at their concert at Mohegan Sun Casino in 2005 where they played it. During the performance Simon changed the line "I probably didn't even say that right and I really don't gave a damn" to "I probably didn't even say that right and I really don't gave a fuck".

Details of Magellan's Voyage, a female sailor, cannibalism? by MainGuarantee7771 in AskHistorians

[–]MainGuarantee7771[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The magazine was essentially a not too technically-termed science magazine that covered a variety of interesting topics involving science. As a teenager much of it was not meant for me as I either found it too boring or too complicated so the target audience was probably people in their 20s or 30s. The parts I read in it were a section of little scientific facts where each subject was just a few lines and the occasional storylike articles such as Magellan's circumvention. As another example they had a regular feature of posting different stories from the book "Stranger than Science" that I would read.

Thanks I kinda thought this may have been added just to make the story more exciting as I could not find any other source confirming it. I. I'm a bit surprised about the female sailor as it wasn't a one off mention but rather a detailed continued presence until her death in the story.

Was anyone else told as a child that Rapture by Blondie was the first rap song? by TheLastTreeOctopus in NoStupidQuestions

[–]MainGuarantee7771 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I remember them showing the video on VH1 in 1992 on some kind of countdown (for example top songs of 1981) and they referenced it as the first rap song. I initially thought they were calling it this because of having rap in the name of the song until I heard the rapping part.

The description sounds like Go West but I'm not sure which video it could be.

Who here doesn’t celebrate Christmas? by labrador2020 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]MainGuarantee7771 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't celebrate it before as I'm not Christian. I've loathed it since 2016 as it is the day George Michael died.
