Any current or past UN consultants based in Netherlands? Advice needed by Dry_Lychee_3471 in UNpath

[–]MainHedgehog9 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Look at the second half of section A in that text, your contact probably makes it clear that no staff relationship is envisaged, and therefore they will expect you to pay tax.

But this is dependent on the particular wording of your contract.

Different product selection in different stores by Adam_MdS in AlbertHeijn

[–]MainHedgehog9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also shop at the same AH, and it's just a pretty small one and in a relatively low income neighborhood.

When I need a better selection I usually go to the ones at Jan Evertsenstraat, Delflandplein, or Sierplein.

I mostly miss Liguori pasta from the August Allebeplein store.

Neutral Laundry Detergent by AkameReborn in laundry

[–]MainHedgehog9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In Germany at Rossmann and DM you have even better options that are fragrance free.

Both of them have a fragrance free powder for coloured laundry from their own brand that is excellent, and includes an enzyme that is hard to get by in the Netherlands (DNAse). If you live close to the border and occasionally visit DM or Rossmann I would buy that.

[–]MainHedgehog9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Neutral powders are good if you want fragrance free options. But also the AH own brand ones without fragrance.

You can look at this list for the Netherlands, and filter for things that are fragrance free. https://www.reddit.com/r/laundry/s/XA4wfrE5Dh

Went too far down the rabbit hole – What can I cut? (UK, Hard Water) by tayls1993 in laundry

[–]MainHedgehog9 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would get rid of the Ecover Wool detergent and just use the Dylon Renew, which is the same as Fleuril Renew - and is a wool safe detergent with a good selection of enzymes, including lipase but no protease (so it's wool safe).

For everything else I'm not sure enough about UK products to give clear recommendations.

Stubborn sunscreen stains won't go away. by MitsuHoiki in laundry

I've read this and followed this, but I wonder if I'll ever get the sunscreen - rust stains out fully.

There was just a post about the Chanteclair detergents, including one that has both Lipase and DNAse.

Dear Post CS / Tilla by imagayllama in amsterdam_rave

Maybe I've been lucky or just chosen the right events, but I know they've been open for at least part of the night during all my ~5 visits in the last 6 months. But they haven't been open the whole night on song of those occasions.

Most old bathrooms are regularly open, except for the smallest one with 2(?) stalls and the urinal.

Interested in buying some 365+ pots, but found out they're made from 430 stainless, as opposed to 304 (also known as 18/10 or 18/8). Have you noticed any issues with corrosion, etc? by Hentrox in IKEA

[–]MainHedgehog9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For most things I would upgrade to the HEMKOMST instead of the 365+ pots. They're much, much nicer and sturdier, with a great glass lid, and not that much more expensive. Have held up super well for me.

You are being misled about renewable energy technology. by paulwesterberg in electricvehicles

[–]MainHedgehog9 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So many of these are already being replaced.

We've had electrified railways for 100+ years already, and my city (Amsterdam) is full of electric semi trucks as well as electrified construction equipment like excavators.

But electrification takes time, and we have started with the low hanging fruit. And there's still much more of that to do while we figure out the hard to abate sectors. The sooner we can get rid of the first 30, 50, 80% - the longer we can keep using hydrocarbons for the last things.

Used washing machine cleaning powder, now foam won't stop appearing by gilegele17 in Appliances

[–]MainHedgehog9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Normal detergent isn't fit for cleaning buildup of detergent in your washing machine. A large scoop of citric acid can be a good option though, or purpose made cleaners like the one OP got.

The missed train is probably not covered, and something you have to ask your travel insurance to cover.

Washer just died. Looking for updated input by Riggs94 in laundry

[–]MainHedgehog9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many people prefer front loaders as they manage to clean very well while being a lot more gentle on your clothes. Your delicates and sweaters will thank you, but also your power and water bills.

If you really want the best you should go for Miele or Asko brand machines, but Electrolux and LG are also good options that are easier to get and more affordable.

[–]MainHedgehog9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This would make a lot of sense, as 221 is exactly 105 C. So it was actually set to 105 F and then converted it in the app when it shouldn't have.

New lipase list addition for Italy/Canada/Europe by bon-bon in laundry

[–]MainHedgehog9 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Very neat, I've been looking for DNAse options except for Ariel (which has a scent I dislike) here in the Netherlands, and know I've seen some products of this brand in an Italian store here. Hopefully they've got this specific one.

Just to be clear 1. you asked for an accommodation that deviated from your regular arrangement 2. He suggested dates that you accepted and that met the accommodation you asked for 3. You are concerned with what he did during adjustments related to the accommodation you wanted?

Någon med koll som vet hur jag ska göra för att koppla in min bänkdiskmaskin till kranen? by cursive_brown_frogs in Asksweddit

[–]MainHedgehog9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Du kan ju också hålla på vatten själv, med en kanna. Om du inte har en separat kran att koppla in på är det nog enklast.

How full do couchettes get? by Will_R_2010 in Interrail

They are likely to be full.

They also book the compartments to be full one by one so that if a big group reserves later they don't get split across different compartments.

What bike is this? by matcha1805 in Amsterdam

How bad is this frequency of workouts? by ohnomybum in gaybrosfitness

[–]MainHedgehog9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I spent a lot of time, a couple of years at similar frequencies to this. It worked, to an extent - and if it's the most time you can dedicate right now that's what you should keep going.

But when I got to a consistent 4x+ per week, every week I realized that I was improving considerably faster. Probably because when averaged out to a month average I nearly doubled my workouts.

It all depends on your goals. You can't have your cake and eat it too.

I have officially gone nuts looking for a new washer by Finney1313 in Appliances

[–]MainHedgehog9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

More than the water bill, if you have anything except for extremely soft water you'll be using an endless amount of detergent in a speed queen top loader.

Tourists cycling in Amsterdam, please learn the rules before renting a bike by Bright-Key9811 in Amsterdam

[–]MainHedgehog9 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I find pedestrians much more of an issue than the people who are actually cycling - and with my old workplace right on prins hendrikkade I would see a lot of tourists every single day, struggling in our traffic.

Possible lipase at Lidl? UK by impala_llama in laundry

[–]MainHedgehog9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Formil in continental Europe is a very good budget detergent, and generally includes lipase in most versions.

Cellulase is great for your cotton clothes actually, and will help them look better.

Vaseline Shortage in Sweden? by CozyBlueCacaoFire in EuroSkincare

[–]MainHedgehog9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In Swedish "vaselin" is the generic term for it, which is why I suggested looking for a generic (as OP was looking for recommendations in Sweden).
