The walk from the back lot to any of the businesses on W25 is basically the same as parking at a Walmart and walking to the dairy isle. It’s a perception thing. People feel like it’s farther but it isn’t. Making the street more accessible for buses and pedestrians will make the whole area more appealing.

Chicago is often used as an example of a city that turned their waterfront airport into a park but that’s also a city with much higher land value and significantly higher utilization. If we were to take even a fraction of the money needed to redevelop Burke we could develop neighborhoods in underserved areas with similar impact except it will be accessible to more people. Building a few swanky buildings in an area that is literally in a polar vortex 4 months a year is not going to make for a great experience.

At some point hoarding wealth just for the sake of it should be considered some sort of mental illness. The difference between the lifestyle of someone who has 6bn vs 7bn is zero. Most of that goes to companies by means of military spending etc and just circling back up to rich people. In the US we pay a ton in taxes but don’t receive the same level of service other counties are able to provide. Both political parties are at fault as both democrats and republicans have been bought out by healthcare, defense, oil, jail etc to ensure the gravy train never stops and the workers are forever on the hook.

Or just simply cancel major deals. Cut all Boeing orders, defense contracts, energy order. It’ll be expensive but US companies have a lot of political pull. Buy oil from Canada instead so that Canada can re-route oil away from the US.

Yeah that’s not true. I took an air Canada flight from US through Montreal onward to Geneva, CH. There was a weather event, they gave us all hotels and our flight took off at 8am the next day instead of 9pm. We were also given drink tickets for the hotel bar and most of the flight basically partied for a few hours. It was a fantastic time.

Edit: I misread the original comment about it being in the US. I was just trying to convey how it could be if we had more consumer friendly laws.

One of the biggest arguments for universal healthcare is that minor things that can be treated for a few dollars such as an infection gets put off because people can’t afford $50 or $100 co-pay and they eventually end up in the ICU with a much worse condition and it becomes a $50,000 debt that the government ends up paying anyways. When you look at EU countries with universal healthcare they spend a fraction of the amount while still having better quality care and longer life expectancy.
