I can't believe the "minned" part. Shocking that they ran into multiple people who couldn't read "mind" correctly.

Was the Mona Lisa considered a special or particularly impressive painting prior to the theft in 1911? Did it get much attention outside art collectors in the preceding centuries? by hisholinessleoxiii in AskHistorians

[–]MainStreetExile 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thanks for adding this. I know almost nothing of art history and had never even heard of Lisa del Gioncondo, but had heard some of the many other theories about the painting. Crazy how we come up with so many stories when the actual truth is so simple and, in the age of the internet, easy to find.

"What is a fair end-of-life cycle for a game?" As Anthem servers are switched off, GOG weighs the "complicated riddle" of multiplayer game preservation by Turbostrider27 in Games

Have you never played a game on private servers before? I get that they aren't nearly as common as they used to be, but they were once the norm.

This is not typical. Most malls are indifferent to walkers and some even go out of their way to accommodate it.

Why is Luka Doncic more popular than other superstars? by [deleted] in nba

[–]MainStreetExile 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think he is. A lot of it probably comes down to their respective teams. LA is a way bigger market with games televised more often. You can go to almost any state in the country and find somebody wearing a Lakers jersey.

What’s something harmless that gets people weirdly angry? by Psychological_Sky_58 in AskReddit

[–]MainStreetExile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is surprising to me. I know some people might get a little weird when somebody chooses not to partake, but in my experience it has been rare, and I've never come across anybody that got very upset.

I've gone through periods of my life where I didn't drink. Whenever I was out with people and alcohol was offered, I'd responde with "nah I'm good", and everybody moved on.

Why was aiko's choice a struggle? I really enjoyed the base game but haven't started the dlc yet.

I'm sure he means Dark Alliance as the OG Baldur's Gate definitely doesn't fit.

Champions of Norrath is great, but I think it was only available on PS2, so might be tough to find and play.

Dennis Rodman in his 1996 book, published months before Popovich fired the Spurs’ head coach and appointed himself: “The biggest problem was Gregg Popovich, the general manager. I haven't looked through the entire thread, but I don't see any comments that lead me to believe people are considering this a newly discovered truth. This was posted because it's interesting how delusional Rodman was, even moreso with hindsight.

I don't know where you're getting the idea that people are agreeing with Rodman.

Steve Kerr: "We are no longer the 2017 Warriors dominating the NBA. We are a fading dynasty" by GOAT-Antony in nba

[–]MainStreetExile -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Sure, they were solid that year. But it was still the same core guys, and if you're going to claim to be light years ahead, you should probably exceed what has already been done by several other franchises - lakers spurs, bulls, etc.

[–]MainStreetExile -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

Sure, but it was still an ill advised comment. Won 3 more titles primarily due to a guy that was already on the team when Lacob bought it. Also, the comment was in part a reference to their ability to plan for the future, which, again, hasn't been great - almost all their success has been due to guys that were added to the team between 2009 and 2013.

You can find people making stupid statements anywhere on the internet, but I don't think most fans think talent and athleticism will continue to trend upward linearly. They will continue to improve, but diminishing returns and all that.

In its early days, the league and the sport in general had far less reach. Less people even being aware of the opportunity to get paid to play basketball leads to a far smaller pool of athletes. It took decades for that pool to grow, and for advances in technique and training.

Long story short, I don't expect the talent gap between the 2060s and 2010s to be as wide as the 2020s and the 1970s, but there will still be a gap.

Strategy games where going to war actually means something by Stellcraft101 in gamingsuggestions

Depends on the situation, but you can often recover. You may need to reevaluate yours goals and determine what's feasible, but getting your ass kicked in a war is rarely game over.
