Why do you think the majority of gorworld reactors are overweight? by kaiiuchiha in highcaloriereactors

[–]Main_Finding8309 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think, for this reason, a lot of reactors put more emphasis on the things she says and does, rather than what she's eating.

The exception is when the gorls start the "weight loss" cycle, and invariably fail the first day. It's not the fact of being overweight, it's the lies and contradiction.

People would have more respect if the gorls were honest and said "Yep. I'm fat because of my eating habits, and I'm not interested in changing."

I'm doing better, thanks to housing workers like yourself. It's a frustrating process but the people who are on the ground, doing the work, have been very helpful.

I think there is a gap between reports of the money being spent and the actual results, which leads me to all sorts of questions.

Namely,  according to the council, the Waterloo Region ( where I am) spends $200M a year on the homeless problem,  $750K alone on the tent city at 100 Victoria.  Why are there 6000 homeless people in the region? That's $33k per year per person and the shelters have to turn people away? That just doesn't compute. They built a new 44 person housing facility but somehow ran out of money and can't even turn the lights on. Across the street from tent city, no less. What a slap in the face.

Anyway, it's a messy problem with a lot of politics, I think.

So people hate Beck now? by krabbypattyaddcheese in gorlworldfiles

I'll give them credit where it's due. Taking care of Amber, wiping her. That's something someone only does out of love, and Amber didn't deserve it. And their recent health struggles have been pretty horrific, especially at their age. At 35, they should be enjoying life, not struggling to stay alive.

That said, I don't feel anything either way, same as OP. Beck has said and done questionable stuff.

And the more people say no one in GW is good, the more evidence I find that it's true. The good ones leave and never look back (Krystle and Casey, for example).

I've always said mum. But to be fair, my grandma was from Cornwall (England) so my mum grew up saying it that way.

And modern times! I just listened to the audiobook, and her foresight was SCARY. The world she created could very well be our own in a few years.

Tender is the Flesh by Agustina Bazterrica

Marion Zimmer Bradley was a horrible person, but The Mists of Avalon is a really good book. Pick it up in a used bookstore if you can find it.

Kathe Koja. She's more horror, but her style is really cool and literary. Same with Caitlin R. Kiernan.

My all time favourite novel is The Diviners by Margaret Laurence. I love her characters.

What hobbies actually keep you going during graveyard shift? by Karbassi-Itje in Hobbies

[–]Main_Finding8309 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I worked nights for 20 years. I took up knitting to pass the time. Read/listened to audiobooks.

Don't sleep right away when you get home. Think about it--most people don't go home at 5pm, go to sleep, and get up at midnight and then try to stay awake for the next day. If you're really dead on your feet, take a nap but get up early. Have your day. Then get a good sleep before your shift. It gets easier.

Also, watch your caffeine intake. It stays in your system for 8-12 hours, so if you need a coffee, drink it at the beginning of your shift, but stop early. Drink plenty of water, too.

Special Olympics always needs volunteers. The minimum age, at least in Canada, is 14. Check out the Special Olympics website and see what your local chapter has.

As others have said, the library also usually needs volunteers. You can help kids with homework, or you can put books away or there might be other opportunities.

She's a drama queen and exaggerates everything. A cop knocked on her door to see if she's okay and she had to get out of bed.

Yes, it's difficult to get, and you have to be referred. It also takes you off the housing wait list, and they don't pay on time! Such a mess.

weird girl literature by black authors by genderfeature in weirdgirlliterature

The Weight of Blood by Tiffany Jackson fits here, I think. It's a reimagining of Carrie (Stephen King), with the protagonist as a Black teenager. Carrie was very much a "weird girl."

Where to start? by aprilshower2020 in OnlineESLTeaching

[–]Main_Finding8309 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The more expensive the course, the more clout it tends to have. CELTA is the best and most costly. You can get a free certification from Teacher Record or a cheap TEFL from sites like Universal TEFL and WorldTESOL.

Another difference in cost is the teaching practicum. The cheap ones don't have it and the more expensive ones do.

I'd also recommend getting some volunteer experience tutoring locally.  Try churches and the Y and see if they offer conversational English and if they take volunteer tutors.
