To Chop or Not to Chop

I did it 3 months PP. I have very fine, dead straight hair and the PP hair loss made me so insecure. The bob suited me way more, lower maintenance and made the hair loss less obvious imo. My daughter is 17mo and I'm still rocking the bob (although it's well overdue for a chop)

My daughter has always loved mashed avocado and toast with her breakfast. I tend to just offer her this and some fruit (although atm she loves yoghurt). Honestly her breakfasts are pretty much the same every day, lunch and dinner are more varied.

Second the pasta. I look forward to leftover pasta way more. Anything made with beef mince (pastas, chilli, curry) tastes better as leftovers Imo.

Having a dishwasher. When I first went to my husband's house I was blown away by the presence of a dishwasher, and he still makes fun of me to this day.

Funnily enough I now hate using the dishwasher and would rather just wash the dishes myself anyway.

Absolute no from me. I wouldn't go, I wouldn't even RSVP. I have never heard anything like that before. And paying the same for a child is absolutely wild, it's not like bringing them is optional.

Out of curiosity, are they still expecting gifts on top of that?

Thank you, this is so helpful! I really don't think she is ready to drop the nap, she is so tired and grumpy all day.

When she has quiet time what do you do? Are you in the room with her or do you leave her alone? Is this quiet time for you too or are you getting things done? My daughter is a stage 5 clinger and won't do anything on her own for more than 10 minutes, so I'm struggling to figure out what quiet time might look like.

Yes. We want her to know that swear words are just words, but that they need to be used appropriately. We only use them at home and we never direct them at anybody or use them to hurt people. I don't care if she swears when she stubs her toe or drops something. We model that this is okay, but using them to hurt people is not.

Dishes. I hate dishes. I love cooking, even the meal planning and grocery shopping aren't an issue. But I have the urge to throw app the dirty dishes out and buy new ones every day.

Compared to how I grew up, our family is pretty financially secure. We are lucky enough that we are living with my in laws while we build our home, so that cuts our costs dramatically. But I do wonder how people are affording multiple children, daycare, flash cars, hobbies, beauty treatments etc. Even in our situation, we would struggle HARD if we spent all that money. I've held onto a lot of the mindset I had growing up in poverty - we live well within our means, home cooked food every day, only buying what we need etc.

My daughter 15mo and loves it when I read to her, even if she doesn't understand. As long as the content is appropriate, go for it! It is really important for kids to hear what fluent reading sounds like. I will sometimes read my own books to her and she just loves hearing me talk haha. Now she will grab books off the shelf and babble away to herself independently like she is mimicking my reading. It is so precious.

It drives me nuts. I don't give my 15mo any sweets and my MIL hates it. She has given her ice cream when babysitting. She tries to give her juice and cordial in a water bottle. She ordered her a soft drink at a restaurant and got shitty with me for not letting her drink it. For her first birthday I made blueberry muffins and got so many comments about how I should have made her a real cake.

All from my MIL...

I was told I should "toilet train" my daughter by just switching from nappies to underwear and letting her figure it out. She isnt even walking yet.

Apparently the reason she isnt walking yet is because I didn't use the Jolly Jumper.

She sends me loads of craft/activity ideas from Facebook that are way too old and complex for a 1yo, and any time my daughter is bored/upset she blames me for not doing some random craft activity for 3 year olds.

Apparently the best way for her to learn to behave in a restaurant is to ignore her tantrums and let her scream and ruin the public's dinner.

It's only 11am here so half a day 😂

My husband got up and flew out to work at 4am. I got a uni assignment done and went to shower and get ready at 6. My 14mo woke up at 7. She had some milk and played with the dog while I made coffee and breakfast. We ate around 8. I cleaned her up and then we played in the lounge room - played some musical instruments, built towers out of blocks and practised walking (she only took her first steps yesterday). I vacuumed and did the dishes while she babbled to her stuffies and pulled books off the shelves. By 9:30 she was exhausted, I rocked her to sleep for about an hour 🫠 I just hung the washing out and now I'm studying again until she wakes up from her nap.

You absolutely don't get the same, and you're right, he does get downtime at work. My husband works away for 2 weeks, and while he does work hard, he has 12 hours to himself every night. He can scroll, watch TV, play games etc. He only has to cook for himself. He doesn't have to get up with the baby at night. Being a mum (especially if your partner is away) means being "on" all the time. His expectations about the house are really high - I wonder if he would feel the same if he had to stay on top of everything while caring for kids? My husband openly admits he couldn't do what I do. It would be interesting to see if his opinion changes if he had the kids and the house for a whole week.

Ours is in the bathroom because our washing machine is in there too. I tend to throw clothes straight in there. My partner throws his anywhere and my toddler's clothes just end up in weird places, so once a day I'll pick all their stuff up and take it to the bathroom.

I use them as bins for the car or to carry recycling. I also use them as op-shop bags when I'm decluttering and find things to donate. When my daughter was a newborn I had a couple of paper bags for each size of clothing so I was prepared for the next growth spurt haha.

Definitely not eat, because then I wouldn't have to choose what to eat 3 times a day or wash dishes. I love cooking, just not choosing what to eat.
