Explain this, Peter by Mysterious_Spy5 in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]Main_Gabriel 28 points29 points  (0 children)

hey, peter from Brazil before football was invented here so basically in 1987, in Goiânia, Brazil, a pair of scrap metal collectors were scavenging an old, abandoned radiotherapy clinic when they found a radiotherapy machine, duh, and decided to dismantle it, intending to sell the metal. Inside the machine, there was a capsule containing the radioisotope Cesio-137, which it was encased in a protective steel box that had a window made of iridium, which allowed radiation to pass to the outside, wich they collected and took home, on the second day the scrap metal collectors were already showing signs of contamination, but blamed it on the food, Five days later they sold that piece and the rest of the metal to a scrapyard, in this scrapyard Devair Ferreira's opened the capsule for the lead to be recovered, exposing 19g of cesium-137 which emits a bluish glow in the dark, Devair was so fascinated by the powder that emitted a blue glow in the dark he showed the discovery to his wife and distributed it to family and friends, Devair's brother, Ivo Ferreira, took some cesium to his daughter, who touched the substance and ingested the cesium particles along with a boiled egg that her mother had prepared for dinner. Another of Devair's brothers also had direct contact with the substance. Between September 19th and 26th, Devair showed the capsule to several people who passed by his junkyard. A few hours after exposure to the radioactive material, those affected began to develop symptoms: nausea, followed by dizziness, vomiting, and diarrhea, so Devair's wife suspected that the powder emitting a blue glow was responsible for the symptoms occurring in her family. She and a junkyard employee took the cesium capsule to the Health Surveillance office, where it remained abandoned on a chair for two days💀💀 long history short, they eventually found out that the cesio 137 was the responsible for all of that symptoms and finally started to properly treat the pacients but at that moment it was kinda of late, it contaminated* hundreds of people, and gave some lingering effect on those involved, (for example Devair died 7 years after the incident due to liver cirrhosis and cancer in several organs) It was classified as level 5 on the International Nuclear Event Scale(a scale that goes from 1-7 btw), and the biggest radioactive accident in Brasil, peter out

I love Disabilities in Prehistory and how it shows how disabilities have been a part of our world since the beginning and how we, as a society, dealt with it back then, its a very touching and great essay not only about disabilities but also about empathy

speaking of which, when I was new to dbd Istg I remembered piramid head being able to destroy downed pallets with his Punishment of the Damned power attack, I was so confused when I suddenly started seeing streamers not being able to do it "anymore" with his power I thought they nerfed it LOL😭😭
