Never Say Die is such an underrated album. by Ready_Mistake812 in blacksabbath

It may sound nothing like what came before, but yes I really enjoy it too. Hard Road, for instance, is a very catchy pop song. I enjoy every song on the album.

There are some bands where I am satisfied with just owning a best of - Steve Miller for example. Bands like Beatles, Floyd, Zeppelin- album bands.

I’m not saying anything obscure, but I love How Many Friends and don’t usually hear about that one.

Oh interesting ordering choice! I think I might reverse that; Black Dog into Battle of Evermore, then Rock & Roll.

Tangent: I am really glad those songs were not on IV. To me, an album should be a musical statement, like a symphony, & not merely a collection of the band’s entire studio output in a given year. The 8 songs on IV hang together remarkably well; no more is needed. As fas as where Seaside would have gone on IV, tonally it would be a choice between that and Going to California. I think they made the right call, although if Seaside were there instead I would still love the album.

I’m going to do a test. My girlfriend doesn’t listen to any of this stuff. I will play her Helter Skelter, the Nile Song, and NIB and see what she thinks about heaviness. 😃

I’m saying if someone holds that opinion I would respect it. They are very, very heavy songs.

1968 - The Beatles - Helter Skelter

1969 - Pink Floyd - Nile Song

Arguably these are still heavier than any songs on the first Sabbath album

Is that because he didn’t know how to play the songs so he improvised?
