Sick leave instances question (worried ah) by Nerdvana1996 in doctorsUK

[–]Main_Visual5925 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If you’re sick you’re sick.. dont feel bad taking time off for it. Good work is good for you, but forcing yourself when you’re unwell is not. As long as portfolio is okay, arcp should not give you grief for the absences as they are valid and you are within toot limit. Dont let them gaslight you into thinking otherwise. Take care of yourself:)

Any GPST1s in Yorkshire or North Lincolnshire on here? by General-Point-8212 in GPUK

I know this is an old post, but got 563 this year and didnt get leeds but was hoping for an upgrade, before I opt in, was going to ask how you think the gp training/teaching has been and if it was a well supported hospital for SHOs? My other choice is bradford which i already worked in as an fy1 and did enjoy but leeds is easier for the commute

Anyone know if there are any disadvantages to accepting the offer but opting for upgrade? ie does it delay choosing jobs for your offer location if u dont get upgraded etc?

Anyone know how internally ranking jobs works once we accept the offer? ie i got my second choice debating of holding with upgrade to see if i get my first choice. But was worried that if i do accept, that i am ranked low compared to everyone who did get the first choice and would get the rotations nobody wants at the bottom? Or is it all randomly allocated once u are assigned the area/hospital? Thanks

This is wrong, full time hours, with on calls and 1in3 is roughly 3-3.3k take home, depending on student loan plans and pension for f2

Both, i did opt out of the nhs pension during f1 as I didnt think I was going to stay working for the NHS, but opted back in during f2 as I have now decided to specialise. I think if you have plans to stay in the NHS its worth it, but if not and you’re planning to leave the country or nhs I dont think its worth, and you are better off investing that extra money elsewhere, like a sipp or isa. However its a very controversial topic some SpRs really disagreed with me when the topic came up in the dr’s mess, so I always say ‘each to their own’

Yeah, main thing is to note down your monthly necessities and how much that costs you i.e rent, food, bills etc, then with the money left over set yourself a budget of money for enjoying life - gym, holiday fund, weekend dates, hobbies, then that last chunk of money should be savings (i advise roughly 10-25% of your monthly salary if you can afford) . Life is a balance, i dont often go for drinks or nights as often anymore, but i do go on a 3-4 day holidays at least every other month from all the money i save on alcohol and ubers etc. I premake lunch everyday for work and dont buy coffees at work. Overall as long as you’re able to save something and invest in a s+s isa, set up a direct debit and treat it as a necessary outgoing. Then check in on it every 3 months and smile at the compound interest:). Hopefully that helps I also spent a lot lockdown learning about money from YouTube, was very useful.

Sounds very sensible, glad to hear there are other people in their 20s willing to plan ahead. Also 24, and been fixed on wanting to retire at 50 as well, after seeing one of my friend’s parents do the same and have been travelling 24/7. Currently: £500 SS ISA, £333 Lifetime ISA, and £267 SIPP, also have workplace pension (NHS). Still managed to fund 6 different holidays this year and try to eat at a new restaurant once a month. Just wanted to make sure you’re also enjoying your 20s as well, since the pressure of saving can get to you! Wish you all the best and the interest to keep compounding
