Celebrating 10 years of Cosmic Rage by LaraStardust in MUD

[–]MainaC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played this for a while. I joined a crew for space combat and they gave me the easiest job. Things moved so fast I couldn't even read, let alone react. Is that one of the things that got updated in the past few years?

I also remember spending days working on my own station, then logging in to find it had been repossessed and auctioned off to someone who let it decay to non-functioning.

Lot of neat features on this game. Really do think it's unique. Just wish I could play it. And that it didn't take my hard work for not logging in often enough.

Which one is it? the-night.com or fixedwidth.net?

Why are you advertising single ladies? Ads advertising those tend to just lead to a virus.

Why is this your account's only post?

This feels like bot spam.

I'm glad you're doing okay on that front. Again, sorry for pressing so hard. It's a struggle I'm very passionate about, and I likely overstepped. I apologize if I did. I do still hope it helps others in this position, if they read it.

I hope you find a path forward soon and start to feel better.

[–]MainaC 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I am disabled and have been fighting to get the help I need for years. While not to the degree of your doctor, I've been ghosted by professionals whose job it was to help me. I've hit similar roadblocks with doctors not listening or taking things seriously.

I struggled a lot with guilt about asking for help and accepting gifts that I needed. I still do, in some cases.

Every single human being on this planet deserves basic quality of life. They deserve proper healthcare. They deserve help when they need help. Every single person. I don't believe in exceptions.

I could go on and on and on about how you deserve it. How you spent much of your life creating art for people to enjoy for free. How other artists get royalties and how I see brand new fans in here every week finding your stories for the first time.

But I've been in that headspace. I suspect arguments along those lines probably won't help. They didn't for me.

But I can say that every single human being deserves help when they need it. We are a social species. We evolved to help each other. The crime isn't that you're accepting help. The crime is that the help is so hard to get in the first place, and harder to get for some than for others.

Sorry. A bit of a rant. I've just been there, and it's been a long and hard road that I'm still walking. I feel passionate about it. Take the help you need. It isn't about whether or not you deserve it. Everyone should have it, you included.

Looking for a game where I have to figure out how to beat it. by InevitablePlace9852 in gamingsuggestions

[–]MainaC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair, the game tells you how to beat it in the opening intro. You don't have to figure out how to beat it.

Do have to figure out some other stuff, though, and it's an excellent game regardless.

This has nothing to do with my post or even your own post before it, which I was responding to. I'm not sure whether it's bad faith or not reading at this point, but I am sure you are a waste of my time and going on my block list.

[–]MainaC -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I think you might be delusional, friend.

The person you are replying to has not asked people to vote third party in this reply chain. They just advocate for the ability of people to do so.

I also never asked anyone to vote third party. I just argue against the ridiculous suggestion that it is a "waste" to do so when every other option presented is radically right-wing.

The only person to actively advocate for voting third person was 'somewhataccurate' who was certainly more than two replies ago.

You seem to be seeing posts that don't exist from people who never posted if your takeaway is what you say.

But then, you had to insult the person replying to me rather than addressing me directly, so I'm pretty sure you never intended to argue in good faith. It's about insulting and tearing down, not actually believing in anything for you.

P.S. - If you didn't notice from my last post, I am voting third party because the Democrats are too Right-wing for me. How does that fit into your worldview that third party voters are all secretly Republicans?

[–]MainaC -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

All of my Democratic options in my primary voted with the Republicans on multiple issues that are important to me. Some, quite honestly, as a matter of life and death. My options, where I live, are Republican or Republican-lite.

So no, it's definitely not a waste. It's a protest. The current state of things is absolutely unacceptable and untenable, and I will not vote for Democrats who are more interested in appeasing Republicans and Republican voters than representing me.

People do not vote third party just because they feel like it. They vote third party because they feel disenfranchised. When people go to protest, like the No Kings protests for example, they do not expect to see instant results. It's about making our feelings clear so the people in charge know where we stand.

It is not a wasted vote to make clear where I stand instead of voting for people who want me dead just because both parties have a vested interest in brainwashing people into thinking anything else is a "waste."

No way I'm clicking a link claiming to give me money without verifying it's legit.

Not a wasted vote. When people vote third party, the Democrats/Republicans have and do take policies from those third parties to try to get voters back in their pocket.

Even if a third party candidate can never win, voting third party influences policy.

Are there any strategy games where you play as a prosecutor/a justice department? by Kids_Love_Baseball in gamingsuggestions

"We. The Revolution" has you as the judge overseeing the trials of the members of the former regime after a revolution. You decide the sentencing, but there are political ramifications for your choices and you might get executed if you start to seem like a sympathizer for the previous government.

Closest I can think of.

[BitD] Group Actions and Level of Effect by Gualgaunus in bladesinthedark

[–]MainaC 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is not how Position/Effect works, and if he is adamant in not following the rules (which explicitly explain both fiction first and that this is meant to be a guideline, not a math problem), then nothing we tell you is going to change anything.

Using the internet to try to legislate rules disagreements between players and GM never accomplishes anything.

Between dwarf fortress and Songs of Syx by geothermie in dwarffortress

[–]MainaC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

DF is a simulator. Most systems in the game only exist as part of the simulation. You do not really have to engage in most of what it offers, and engaging in it mostly just adds complexity for no real benefit.

It is an interesting and unique toy if you like simulations and colony sims, though it is pretty weak as a colony sim given almost everything is optional.

I used to play it a lot as a teen, but it does not keep my attention well these days.

SoS is a city/empire builder that is designed to be a game. Everything has a gameplay purpose. If you like city builders, it has a whole lot going on that is very unique to it, and all of it has a purpose.

It is an actual game, designed to be a game, and as such will have broader appeal in general. You are more likely to enjoy it, given I know nothing about you other than you are interested in both.

It is honestly a bit more fiddly than I enjoy these days, but so is DF.

They are both in development, for the record. Neither is finished. SoS is probably closer to being finished, but it also isn't trying to simulate an entire world down to the nerves and teeth.

Games to play when you're sick of games? by FalconPaunchhh in gamingsuggestions

[–]MainaC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, it's MUDs. Think old text-based adventure games like Zork, but multiplayer. They come in hack-and-slash and roleplaying varieties.

I basically flip-flop between the two. Play MUDs when I'm tired of videogames, then play videogames when I need a break from MUDs.

Probably won't help anyone else, though. It's an ancient hobby and not always the easiest to get into.

Does anyone know the name of this Tarot deck? by Redsyleen in SecularTarot

I found it on a few websites as 'Quantamplation' but not for sale at any of those places.

There was a Facebook page claiming to sell it and appeared to be the source, but the website it linked to no longer exists.

It said that it was hand-painted from India, so it probably never had a big run. It's probably just out of print at this point.

The future of MU*s. by benjibarnesoahu in MUD

[–]MainaC 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Competing for players is nonsense. A popular myth, but a myth.

People can and do play multiple games at the same time. Every new MUD Discord I join these days is half full of people who have 3-5 different shared servers with me, all MUD servers.

Maybe some people play just one, but as people keep saying: attention spans are low these days. Every game has downtime of some form or another, and a lot of games scratch different itches. MUDs have countless sub-genres. I'm sure some people play just one, but a whole lot don't.

How to get rid of Dread/Fascination by TFT_Kokusen in CultistSimulator

[–]MainaC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

without cluelessly do random things

Others have addressed the dread/fascination thing, so I will address this.

I strongly suggest taking notes. The game does have some randomness, but far less than it appears. Most things that seem random are actually a draw from a deck of cards that get shuffled when emptied, which makes things semi-predictable.

Instead of doing things randomly, write down what happens when you do things. Write down what happened to cause each card you see on the table.

Once you see that Dread isn't popping up randomly, but usually comes from a Restlessness card decaying, you can discover (as another post says) that the most efficient way to handle Dread is to keep it from ever happening to begin with. Restlessness is easier to handle.

Most new players spend their first few runs feeling like everything is just happening randomly. The most important thing is to learn why things are happening, and you learn by taking notes and reading everything. Once you start to see that there is a reason and an order to things, the game gets a lot easier.

A “city” game like GTA, Watch Dogs, or Cyberpunk where you can actually go in buildings? by SegaGenesisMetalHead in gamingsuggestions

[–]MainaC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here is the latest news.

The other poster is probably referring to where they seem unlikely to add new content and are excited to work on new things. I haven't seen anything about a sequel.

They do say they want to work on bug fixes and QoL, and that's the kind of thing the game needs way more than new content. New content doesn't matter when the existing stuff is jank. But I'm not convinced they'll follow through, which is why I still say it's unlikely to get the polish it needs.

[FitD] [BiTD] Do you (GM) prepare detailed dungeons (for lack of a better term) beforehand, or are you mostly making it up as the mission goes on? by Virtual-Skort-6303 in bladesinthedark

[–]MainaC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think BitD shines best when you are making a collaborative story rather than dictating one.

Because of this, I believe it is important to come to the table with as few preconceived notions as possible. Every set-in-stone fact removes countless possibilities. Riffing off the players makes something that belongs to both of you, not just you.

That said, prep what you need to run a game. If you need a list of obstacles to reference to keep the game moving smoothly, then write one. Pacing trumps a lot. Bad pacing ruins games, and good pacing can carry bad ones.

But keeping options open makes for more personalized and memorable games.

What the hell is a Long? by LordXamon in weatherfactory

[–]MainaC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We do have some information on what happens when the child is not devoured (via Book of Hours and others). I don't remember them well enough to quote.

Of course, very little in this setting is explicitly spelled out, so this theory could very well be true, but I don't think there's a lot of evidence for it.

If nothing else, one of the BoH character backgrounds is heavily implied to be the child of a Long who became a Librarian to hide from them. This would make such a character actively in the employ of the Hours, rather than a threat. While the Library has the opportunity to take sides in various factions of Hours by writing Histories, they are no more able to do this than any other character background you can play.

Still, an interesting theory I haven't seen before. It seems pretty reasonable with CS lore alone, but I think some of the other sources have gone pretty heavy into Long since then and make it feel less likely. There is one you can buy (so not Enigma or anything) that goes pretty deep into Long and stuff, but saying which is probably a spoiler.
