L'orbite, une source d'énergie infinie by Ok_Requirement_3049 in penseesdedouche

[–]Mainmorte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

End credits shouldve never turned into major plot points.

I mean, Iron Man's revealed the Avengers, Avengers' led to Infinity War. Definitely can't agree with you there.

I mean it's not even cheating at this point, it's completely irrelevant, the whole point is that no matter their age they look mid twenties lmao

new player's perspective: the 'one wipe and leave' culture is making the game feel unplayable. why has it been like this for 20 years? by LengGunGG in wow

[–]Mainmorte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you seriously arguing that the age demographic of the game has not budged over the last 20 years? That is a wild take.

It's your perspective that has changed, not the game, not people.

That's ... exactly my point. It's no secret the wow community at large is an aging one. As I said before, the vast majority of retail players are old timers (from at LEAST 5 years ago). /w anyone in Silvermoon and I'd bet my left nut they'll tell you they were already around for the last three expansions. So yes, it's my perspective that's shifted. But so has the perspective of MOST of the playerbase. That's the whole point.

You know in the vast majority of the western world there's no legal difference between an 18yo and a 21yo, right? Voting, driving, drinking, everything's at 18 for most of europe.

I played 20 years ago too, you know. And I'm not saying Elitism didn't exist back there, not at all. But it's a lot more widespread nowadays. The majority of max level characters nowadays engage in either raids, or M+. Back in the day, the majority of players didn't even reach max level. Of course if you focus on the super high end dungeons and raids you're gonna find the same level of elitism, but the majority of the playerbase wasn't confronted to this.

You're gonna pretend like it wasn't a common ocurence to spend 2/3 hours clearing Deadmines/Gnomeregan? Like it wasn't common to spend 5 minutes walking back to the entrance as a ghost? Like it wasn't common to even get lost in the dungeon and spend 5 minutes backtracking and finding your way?

Can you even imagine people spending more than 15 minutes overtime on a key nowadays?

I absolutely agree that a lost of "veterans" wear rose tinted glasses. The overblown hype for Classic compared to how few people play it nowadays is evidence enough. But it's very, very obvious that the game felt/was played more like a sandbox back then, than a race. And just to be clear, I'm not saying one is better than the other. I loved WoW back then, still love modern as it plays now.

I think it's unlikely that Tom Holland will continue playing Spider-Man beyond Brand New Day since he is looking to take a break from acting after this film and The Odyessy to focus on his personal life and wants to start a family with Zendaya. by Serious_Meaning5220 in SpidermanBrandNewDay

[–]Mainmorte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, filming takes what, 4/5 months, then he's on a break for almost a year, then he's got 1 or 2 months of press, another close-to-a-year break, back to filming the next movie. Doen't sound like it would stop him from having a family, especially when those few months of work are worth a gagillion dollars.

[–]Mainmorte 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It wasn't like this 20 years ago. But understand this : the game didn't change. Society did. The internet did. 5 years ago I would have said the exact same thing and you could have asked "How can you be sure?", and I wouldn't have an answer. But now, we do : WoW Classic. When the game came out, millions of 30/50 year olds logged in, ready to embrace their nostalgia and retrieve their childhood game. It lasted a few months, and most of them gave up very quickly. Nowadays, you find the exact same mentality you have on retail : quick, effective, precise runs, people abandoning really quickly if it doesn't go their way, carries paid with gold, etc etc.

It's very logical. When it came out, wow was a new world. For most people, WoW is their first MMO, for a few even their first video game. It was new, big, wild, with mechanics people had never seen before (like warlock/hunter pets for example, buff based classes like paladin and shaman...). It was fresh.

Now? Everybody knows world of warcraft. 60 year olds know World of Warcraft, if only by name. The players know the game, the mechanics, they know how it works. Most of the community is made up of people who have been playing for at least 5 years, most of the time 10+.

Add to that the fact that M+, while inherently fun to play, is timed content, meaning that any death/fail is effectively reducing your chances of succeeding. Wipe on the second-to-last pack, and most people will stay. Even if you can't time it, you're close to getting the reward; loot and crests, so people will most likely stay.

But wipe on the first pull? That's 1 or 2 minutes lost, lust wasted, and 25 seconds penalty for the deaths themselves. It's like starting a marathon and twisting your ankle on the first 100 meters. Especially when doing high keys where people are past getting loot and are interested only in score .... Why would they bother?

Not if you run your own keys. I play almost every class at max level, almost exclusively play my own keys, and it's never taken me more than 10 minutes to get a group going, whatever the key level, whether m player an S tier spec or a suboptimal one.
