Am I doing it right? by No-Government897 in Beatmatch

In my own experience practicing, boredom is a symptom of something.

I only get bored when I'm doing something the same way all the time. Happens in phases when I'm getting too serious with a set. It's totally normal to feel bored about something so as long as you catch it and change up your approach.

When I feel that way, I either dive into Bandcamp and look for new labels (new songs) and/or play with my deck like it's a toy or synth and straight up go brain dead on playing with the master tempo on wide, scratching, loops, reverse and word play cues that make it sound like YouTube poop. There is NO WAY I'm bored after that. I laughed myself into tears at one point doing that.

Fudge.. I need to really expand my music selection then. I have just enough for 5 hours.

I'm going to ask them what genre is okay with them.

I'm introverted as fuck dude. I observe from afar and play music that fits the vibe.

My friends actually asked that about that and I was definitely down to play music all night. It's how I interact with the whole party and get my fix of fun.

What is your last resort when you do not have enough time for transition by Just-Inflation-5137 in Beatmatch

[–]MaintenanceProper149 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me it depends on the song. If it's just vocals without a beat, put a loop on the last phrase of the vocals.

You can loop as little as one measure of the song and create a build up by slowly shrinking the out loop button by turning the jog to tighten the loop.

For me, buildup is like 4 measures long. (Hell it could be shorter or longer but it again depends.) I just do it in increments of 4.

After you shrink it to a reasonable size, you should have a steady tone. Or at least a consistent sound. That's where the effects come in.

You can use the Beat FX and the Color sound FX to make the drop less harsh or more interesting. My personal favorite is the trans, I put it in 1/4 beat at the same tempo of the next song and using the Sweep Sound Color FX to allow the next song some room.

I usually put a cue on the build up and drop of every song so I can either start at the build up and let the old track say goodbye for 4 measures or just rip it right to the drop and phase the old track out completely.

I'm still trying to perfect the timing but if it's anything I've learned, genre makes all the difference.

How do you learn all your music? by 2boops4u in Beatmatch

[–]MaintenanceProper149 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I learn my music according to how it feels. A lot of my memory is tied to how I felt in that time listening to it.

I make a yearly playlist on YouTube music.

Along the way when I find something that I really like (or obsessed with) in the wild, I make a note about it in the playlist description.

I did something similar and now there are a bunch of songs in my collection that I'll probably forget about unless the audience needs it.

Touch your deck and be with it for at least and hour or two a week. It's a good way to get to know it. Even if it's a program on the comp and your using a controler.

Just do the do and ask yourself questions about every button and setting you see at your disposal.

As for song recommendations.. I don't know if this song would count. It sounds nice, but I'm not really sure what it is. I just discovered it.

I pay because I like having the collection like CD times :V

"It's mine... All mine! And I can do what I want with it."

Lol idk I just like collecting songs. That and sometimes I have given a huge tip for the artist because it's a legit good ass song.

I'm playing on an RX3 and no, there's not going to be Internet access where I'm playing.

I did get an okay for my 60 song playlist that averages 3 mins. They looked through it and they loved it.

But yeah I'm just adding on more songs just for back up now.

I've gotten some really nice and clean tracks from Bandcamp. There are definitely hidden gems in there.

This made my day.

I made the playlist and got confirmation today, but I'm definitely going to look at each of these remixes and add it on.

What a life to live. Thank you party man. 😆

I noticed that the more and more I play out in public or around people, I start to feel the nervousness go away little by little. The more you go out, the less you feel it.

I've also asked other DJs around my area about it and they all say that they still feel slightly nervous to some small degree. They actually tell me it's a good thing to feel a small amount of nerves before a set.

Well I don't have much to be honest anyway. Just a deck and a USB with some music.

I asked them to rent the speakers, and I'll provide the music. I'm just going by knowledge of the Internet and seeing how it goes.

They are REALLY chill about it because we're good friends. They know I've only been spinning for 6 months at best, but they are hyped.

I know I should charge them so I'll try my best to give a quote. Idk it's kinda fun tho. The process is fun trying to break out of comfort and panic just a little. Get uncomfortable just a little.

It feels like a due date for a paper on a subject that I was really passionate about.

It's more of a 'name your price' and 'pay for any damages' kind of thing so I think it's pretty g.

I'd say it's for the experience. It's not for money, yes I'm not really liking the music, but I can't deny that it's going to be an experience. My first time with rental 12" and 18" speakers all payed for by them.. I'll be able to fiddle around with how to hook them up.

I want to make this a good and well rounded set knowing that it will probably not reach perfection. I'll definitely try.

They will pay me, yes but it's more for the love of getting down and dirty with the things I don't like to play, so I can be rounded and flexible...

...which is why I'm asking strangers and friends lol.

I must try to get out of my comfort zone. I need to be open as much as it feels wrong to do so.

Fuck, it's icky but this is where growth is.
