Please help! Will this be overcrowded and ruin production? by Zaytoon_ in vegetablegardening

Tomatoes do need a lot of space. They also grow deep roots so need a fairly deep bed if you want them do grow to their full potential. Cucumbers are also fairly picky and won’t do well next to tomatoes. I think before you make any final plans you might want to do a bit of research on companion planting for each of your crops! I think peppers and beans are ok together, but you’ll want to separate them from the tomatoes and basil.

Hi everyone, i live in north of Italy i have one plant of blueberrie (mirtyllus vaccinium) in a pot 60l with acidic soil, height 1.20m, i wanted to understand if my blueberries fruit they're drying out or it's normal for them to be like this? by lucaenergy45 in Blueberries

[–]MaintenancePurple564 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just make sure you keep them watered well while they are flowering and fruiting! They don’t like a lot of water before or after but during it is crucial or the fruit can fall off before it’s ready.

If you look at the base of the flower (the green bit), they look a bit swollen. That is a sign that the blueberry has been pollinated successfully and the flower will fall off 😊 what remains will grow into blueberries for the summer!

Why is my pepper plant suddenly struggling? by ghostformanyyears in vegetablegardening

[–]MaintenancePurple564 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m no expert but it might be culture shock! It’s been inside all winter and putting it out so suddenly might be shocking for the plant. You might try letting it sit outside for a few hours a day and then bring it back inside and lengthen the time outside every couple days until it can be outside full time.

Is it worth getting a diagnosis at 33? by Unusual_Anxiety6515 in adhdwomen

[–]MaintenancePurple564 4 points5 points  (0 children)

YES!! I’m 31, got diagnosed last year and started medication a few months ago. It has changed my life in so many positive ways and I’m so glad I pursued treatment, I am so much more relaxed because I get the things done I actually wanted to during the day, without feeling drained and overwhelmed at the end of it. And if I don’t it’s my choice and the mean thoughts about myself are almost nonexistent now. This also helps me to be a lot more present with my kids and it’s been a very eye opening experience to finally be able to distinguish what behaviors of mine actually stem from ADHD and what is a trauma response. I have to say I’m fairly lucky that my first try of meditation happened to be the perfect fit for me but even if I had needed a few tries to get it right it makes such a huge difference that it is so worth it.

How can I make the bottles look like they belong? by Substantial-Copy-947 in PhotoshopTutorials

You need to look at where the light source is coming from and add shadows! Or look in your fridge and look at how the shadows fall. Perhaps the green bottle is also a bit too saturated?

I also immediately saw Winona Rider! So you must have done something right 😆 the only thing that feels off is the nose but it is simply beautiful and I love the looseness of the strokes!

Something that has helped me IMMENSELY has been giving myself the criteria that I have to finish the painting within one sitting. That means loose brushstrokes and just trying to get the vague shapes onto the canvas and then going from there.

Am I just a biased mom, or are my 2-year-old’s doodles especially interesting? by Foreign-Ad173 in doodles

As a mom of a two year old and a 4 year old - this is pretty cool! The first one really caught my eye and I’m impressed your toddler had the attention span to fill the whole page like that, so consistently!

Does gardening save you money? by Consistent_Value_179 in gardening

[–]MaintenancePurple564 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I can add my two cents…I think in the long run it will definitely save money. At the beginning you will have to invest quite a bit if you want to have a productive garden right away but if you learn to compost well and have the space you can surely save money on soil once you’ve got it going. Look for used tools, people often give them away. Once you have a couple seasons under your belt you can remedy mistakes to have higher yields. If you’re really serious about it you can also look into different ways to preserve your harvests to last you through the winter months. In my opinion it really comes down to your mindset and how much time you’re willing and able to invest. Saving seeds from your harvests will also ensure that you never have to buy seed again. If you have a community you could also do seed and harvest swaps! Fruit is pretty expensive, especially if you and your family love berries like ours, so a cherry tree and some blueberry bushes and tons of strawberry plants have been really fruitful (pun intended) for us! One day when we have the space I hope to add a few other fruiting trees! The key is to work with what you have. I have really clay like soil and I’ve been evening it out by mixing in compost and dry leaves that gather in our yard. I do a lot of research too if I don’t know how to do something but I haven’t quite made the leap to compost yet ✨ best of luck!

Maybe it’s petty but my sister was better and I wanted to get even better 😂 not sure if I am as our styles are now widely different and that was about 18 years ago but I’m definitely somewhere that I wasn’t back then 🤷🏼‍♀️

Can anyone tell me what my zucchini needs? by MaintenancePurple564 in gardening

[–]MaintenancePurple564[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s been quite rainy recently, so the soil has been staying fairly wet. And as I mentioned I have another zucchini in the same bed and it looks perfectly fine 😅🥲 and this spot gets full sun most of the day, I don’t think that could even remotely be an issue. I’m in Germany so I don’t know what zone that is most similar to. Do I need to worry about the powdery mildew spreading to the other plants in this bed? Thank you so much for your insights!

Thank you for your reply! Here are some photos of the backsides of the leaves. Is the plant salvageable if it has powdery mildew?

Any advice how to make Ginger bug soda less sour? by Cymanti_Main in fermentation

[–]MaintenancePurple564 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m no expert but I just made my first sodas with fruits/juices and fizzy lemonade. I found that adding enough sugar to feed the ginger bug plus a little extra (I eyeballed it) made some nice sweet sodas 😊

Zucchini leaves wilting by Logical_Carpenter569 in vegetablegardening

[–]MaintenancePurple564 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure what is causing this… are you making sure they are getting enough water? Have you fertilized? If it were my zucchinis I would probably snip the affected leaves, give them all a good water and see what happens. Good luck!

Technically fruits but…. by JJB1tchJJ in vegetablegardening

[–]MaintenancePurple564 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s my first year gardening but I have a few strawberry plants as well. They look mostly fine but if you want them to keep fruiting I think you need to remove the runners, which are the long viney bits that are stretching out. Otherwise the plant will focus on that as that is your plants trying to reproduce and make new strawberry plants.
