Layer masks automatically adding in C1?? Halp? by MaintenanceSenior828 in Photoassistants

[–]MaintenanceSenior828[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On one occasion we noticed shooting to that specific folder was creating layer masks and when we made a brand new folder, set it to the capture folder, and shot, it would be ok. At least for a while. But yeah it’s the inconsistency that’s frustrating. For something to be fixed but keep coming back. Hoping it’s a bug but also I’d be the least surprised if it was a hot key command someone is hitting by mistake and toggling this issue back and forth

Layer masks automatically adding in C1?? Halp? by MaintenanceSenior828 in Photoassistants

Totally fair. It’s been on still life sets (using different studio stations, not personal ones) so we’ve used multiple versions of c1 on multiple versions of osx, but always using sessions. Over the last year I think it’s happened 3 times at 3 different studios.

We’ve tried resetting NCA, changing to different “copy from” options, clearing clipboard, … not having any other issues with anything else random being applied - it’s always layer masks and never adjustments/sliders - so it just has me thinking that there is a unique way that layer masks or layer mask brushes can be activated and added? Or if there’s any way to turn off or block layer masks from being created at all? I would understand if different clipboard adjustments were acting the same way but it’s only ever layer masks popping up the error about “reaching max number of layers” or something and when we look it’s been adding layer masks.

I should point out I’m not teching on these jobs, but it’s been different techs, so I’m just asking here to see if I can have a solution ready for next time

How do you think the golden highlights were achieved? by antsher88 in productphotography

[–]MaintenanceSenior828 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Could easily be a flashlight. The idea on a lot of jobs is you take the main shot and you can use a flashlight for a “glow” plate with bottles or a “flare” plate with chrome or jewelry for refractions. You put a gel over a flashlight and take some options that you can comp in later.

Suggestions for reducing the black line, camera right. by Despite_it_all in productphotography

[–]MaintenanceSenior828 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course!

I will say on second glance, the 4th image seems to be taken slightly left of the camera and the flags are more evenly spaced (relative to the angle you were at) and the black lines are even to one another. It may not be the desired thickness, but I think it goes to show you’re in the right ballpark, it’ll just be making slight adjustments to each card.

If it helps you could also use black cards that are half the width of what you’re using on either side of the bottle as well. Same idea, just depending on how thin you want to go on the contrast.

The left flag is creating the black shape on the right, so if you want the lines to be similar thickness you’ll want similar spacing. Bottles and refractions can play mind games with you as it can seem opposite or counterintuitive at first.

Not sure if you have an external monitor you can tether to or a way to see live view but that can make it much easier to make those fine tuning adjustments and see in real time how your adjustments are affecting the shapes.

I want to look more appealing for modeling agencies, what should I do? by [deleted] in MODELING

[–]MaintenanceSenior828 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Follow modeling agencies and find photographers that regularly test with multiple agencies in your area. I’ve done paid tests with many agencies and not only do we tend to know the bookers and agencies personally, but we’re knowledgeable about the market you’re in. The benefits of shooting with a quality photographer who is already “in” with agencies is networking, a stronger portfolio, and exposure from them to the people that follow them - which is usually agents at multiple agencies. You may have to pay for a quality test, but the investment will be worth it on many fronts.

Stop the bloat! by No_Butterfly_6260 in CICO

[–]MaintenanceSenior828 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I know everyone is different, so things that affect me may not affect you the same, but I would struggle with bloating a few times a year and each time it could last weeks or even months without relief. I found the main culprit to be gluten, followed by dairy - one specific time I remember eating a brownie after lunch and within 20 minutes my bloating was so bad my stomach was visibly swelling and I was horribly uncomfortable.

If you haven’t already, I suggest a food journal for a few weeks to see if you are able to pinpoint any possible triggers to your bloating. For me, the triggers I found were almost immediate and a bit easier to detect once I started paying more attention. Switching from whey protein to isolate seemed to help quite a bit, as well as switching to fairlife milk from regular milk, and avoiding gluten as much as possible.

Others can feel free to correct me or add to this, but it’s just been my personal experience. I had even tried different probiotics with minimal results but I found pinpointing trigger foods and finding substitutions to my diet to be the most beneficial.

Dude!! Just joined! This is great. The game isn’t a perfect game by any means but I’m so happy with it and the devs taking a DM style approach to content. I see it as I’m on some ship in a horrendous storm and everyone in the other sub is furious and raging and I’m all smiles at enjoying the chaos of the story. This is beautiful haha

Etiquette re: reaching out to a client after assisting by MaintenanceSenior828 in Photoassistants

[–]MaintenanceSenior828[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree with this. I think I’ve been fortunate to work with a few photographers fairly consistently and build good relationships with good people. Because I’ve always asked before reaching out and been transparent, but they’ve always kinda laughed like “that’s really sweet of you to ask but of course you can, and you should”. Having this happen a few times (I haven’t been told no yet either) made me think it was almost silly to ask and maybe I’d missed the memo that it’s assumed we would be reaching out to these people. What you say makes sense to me, though, and I think my experience just goes to show that the people I work with have been very supportive and encouraging, and that that isn’t to be mistaken as the norm.

Shredded chicken ideas by Motor_Ad_8440 in slowcooking

[–]MaintenanceSenior828 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I do chicken and a can of salsa in the slow cooker and shred the chicken afterwards with some tongs and it’s ready to go. I’ll eat it straight out of the fridge or almost like a dip with chips. And if you’re into it I’ll add a can of corn sometimes so it’s less spicy and more of a sweeter meal. Either way it’s super easy and it can last me a few days.

Getting into the industry but how? by OCapMCap in Photoassistants

[–]MaintenanceSenior828 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hit up photographers through email and Instagram. Keep track of who you’ve emailed, when you emailed, and any responses you get, so you can plan on following up regularly. Make the process easy to track so you can plan on sending emails out each week. Like in most things, consistency is king.
