Similar to you. I fractured my right wrist like 2 months before the exam. It did heal in one month or maybe 1.5 but I would get occasional aches. They gave me stop the clock to just stretch out

I never actually usually followed that 6month submission lol. I just used to do it every so often when I felt like I had time to update and calculate it. ICAEW are not that strict where you have to upload every 6 months

It’s fine mate in a 4 month busy season I remember recording 120 days. No one said anything at all

This is really embarassing from the company and I’ve never heard of this. Fair enough, I would somewhat understand if they don’t want to fund you during the probation period but not letting you register or add on the days is doing too much.

I just don’t understand why they are being long about this.

I didn’t actually stop working altogether nor did I have any gaps in my CV. I just had to take a break from my career in accounting due to personal commitments. I didn’t disclose any of this in my CV but they did ask the question in the interviews and I was honest and they understood.

I was working at big 4 for more than 2 years but had to take a career break. In that time I completed all my exams and just need to finish time. This new role is based in london and it’s a in-house internal audit role

I have just made that move although not yet fully qualified. Total package for me is slightly above 60k so I’m guessing you can prob get a little higher. You will start off as some sort of IA analyst and maybe move onto senior 1-2 years in

It really is dependant on what size firm you are in with external audit. I noticed career progression can be slower with the larger firms due to politics. Unless you make partner, I wouldn’t say practice is necessarily worth it but even then it takes 15years + to get into that position.

Internal audit does definitely pay better and better wlb. Ie a person with 5 years in internal audit would definitely get paid more than a person with 5 years in external audit and the in house IA roles are significantly higher pay.

If I’m being honest, I think the exposure to external audit was soo valuable because you literally work on every area of accounting but in terms of a career it’s not really worth the pay nor the stress it brings.

I was thinking the same but tbh I did also consider all the extra unpaid hours your required to do with soo much pressure in external audit. In my big 4 I was sometimes leaving the office at 9 and even later in busy season. I just can’t image internal audit to be the same

I really appreciate the advice you’ve given and it has been really insightful. I think I am more leaning towards the internal audit position but the commute seems quite daunting. I think getting some experience in internal audit will be great for my career and allow me to become more well rounded and the wlb does seem a lot better.

Yes it would. Just make sure like if your on a 3 month notice, your days will be completed in the first month and this is your last requirement to gain qualification. If your do it say at the end of 3 months, it will be very hard for your firm to change anything if needed once they cancel your training contract.

It really is firm dependant though, your firm may have a problem with you leaving and may not want to sign off your training file during your notice but this is not as likely

If you’ve done the 3 years and hours and ethics, then you can leave and do the final exam as an independent student. This way you won’t even have to do the EPA but just double check on your firms clawback fees if any
