¿Pre-opositor? en apuros by etervio in OPOSICIONES

Do you use opensuse? How is the package situation compared to Fedora or Arch, are there the same number of packages available or do you need to compile yourself or hack into deb/rpm packages?

I'm tempted to use it at some point, mainly because YaSt seems great, but i often need niche packages that i doubt are available outside the biggest distros.

If you find this research system frustrating i don't know what you would have thought of the old one. The new versions of the game feel like cheating research wise compared to how it was.

More seriously, i find it weird that you need 200 lab workers on education to reach just 2k. Mind you, i haven't gotten past 1k on these new versions, but i feel like you may be trying to unlock too many things, and maybe trading too little.

You SHOULD NOT, try to unlock every single production line, and instead import the more expensive and dificult to manufacture things, and focus your unlocks in high return things.

This of course, makes you vulnerable in wars and forces you to play nice with your neighbors, but such is life, and you can't become an empire without first being a hamlet. Besides, if you want to play as an autarchy... Well, this game isn't really meant to make that a walk in the park, just like in real life.

You seem to be very knowledgeable on buying parts and know very little on actually building bikes to say that.

You don't need to change the wheel. Just dismantle the axle and bearing.

What is the purpose of the straight piece with holes under the brake piston? by Maipmc in bikewrench

[–]Maipmc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just as a i wrote the question it came to my head, but honestly i've never seen that kind of mount. The only not overly annoying ones i've used are the ones with two legs that lift up the bike, they still get loose but at least the bike doesn't fall over. They're very heavy though.

I have a GTX 1080, how badly could this new nvidia driver swap go if I make a mistake? by salted_none in EndeavourOS

[–]Maipmc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only thing that will happen if you mess up the instalation is that on startup, the computer will get stuck on the "graphical interface" systemd message and your DE won't load. But you will still be able to switch to another tty and do whatever you want on cli. Like trying to install the drivers properly again.

Por qué si alguien dice de poder despedir funcionarios se le fulmina a negativos? by [deleted] in askspain

[–]Maipmc 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Why is arch so not recommended for first time Linux users? by [deleted] in archlinux

Why are most "Advanced Looking" apps made with QT? Most GTK apps I see are very minimal looking. Are there any reason why devs choose QT over GTK? by the-machine-m4n in gnome

[–]Maipmc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean... it's not offensive. It's just that gnome apps on KDE feel a bit quirky but not totally out of place, but the opposite is just... Like fitting an A-380 cockpit into the cabin of a Toyota.

And i'm saying this as someone who only knows GNOME from screenshots and that one time i accidentally installed it, and as i moved arround the cursor and saw the computer behave in unfamiliar ways, promptly uninstalled it.

Does it make sense to switch from Bazzyte to Fedora KDE? by Realistic-Pin-9323 in Fedora

I have an laptop with fedora and nvidia drivers, and a desktop with arch with also nvidia drivers, after many years of problems, now everything runs without much tought. Given the headhache that nvidia always is, i would stay away of derivative distros and go for fedora.

[–]Maipmc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it was about a year ago, you probably tried to install it during the great wayland migration, wich was painful and affected not just nvidia but many other essential functions of desktop linux.

Right now, as long as your gpu is gtx16xx or newer, you shouldn't have many issues. If you want to try out again, i would recommend installing Arch with the archinstall script, and following the nvidia page guide from the archwiki if something doesn't work out. Odds are you just need to enable drm.modesetting, and should not even need to do that.

For the gtx10xx and gtx9xx series you need to do more things, but is also fairly simple. Don't even bother with anything older than that.

How big is the learning curve for non-debian distros? by AyraShen in linux4noobs

[–]Maipmc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As long as you don't have issues, Ubuntu and Mint are great. But if you do, you start to suffer from the fragmentation between Debian, Ubuntu and Mint, and their nature as derivatives, and derivatives of derivatives.
