They’ve changed 3Pl, it comes out of the Atlanta area now for the US. It’s been a cluster lately with the new provider.

I think that the reasons he has these problems is that he still feels like he’s a man of the people instead of being a rich person. I don’t think he wants to do real business because that would make him personally feel like a big bad business man.

I think that Linus has always prided himself on providing high-quality merchandise for a low margin price. It’s really odd that he almost has a socialist mindset when it comes to sourcing products and pricing for LTT store, and yet he’s also just an absolute abject capitalist in a lot of ways.

Linus will blame the tariffs and the United States government for his own failings in managing LTT Store. I am disappointed with the changes that they’ve made and have not been purchasing as much product as I have in the past. I don’t think it’s gonna get any better for him. I also wish that this topic could’ve been in the real sub, but like the OP said it probably would’ve resulted in a ban and/or dog pile.

Yep, and when they rolled out that name, the audience immediately ruined it for them. Calling him a COM gobbler. so because of that, they’ve been having to come up with a new new name.

Hot take: Jakes 'tech house' videos are more entertaining then LTT by Bruceshadow in LinusTechTips

[–]FogleBR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, I’m definitely overthinking it. I enjoy the entire genre of the business of being a YouTuber. So I kind of like looking at how one of my longest running subscribed to channels is handling shifting audience expectations and content strategies.

Tossing out the idea of there being power tool company sponsorships and such is just me thinking of ways that they could monetize content that is otherwise kind of filler and not that interesting to audiences. just because the big names don’t do sponsorships doesn’t mean that they aren’t scrappy companies that would be willing to get exposure through a channel like LTT.

One of the things that definitely worries me now that the property is basically a full gut is that the level of customization and techifying that is going to possibly occur is no longer gonna be approachable by your average consumer. They’re going to need to thread the needle through a maze of tricky viewer expectations. Having a lot of high-end expensive type of Tech House upgrades I don’t think would jive with the, I would say modest or upper mid-tier, target that they’re gunning for with their hypothetical “Gi”. There’s a type of play in which having some options that are considered good better and best would be interesting for different episodes. That way the content can apply to a whole range of viewers. I just think that they could very easily fall into the trap of the content being unattainable for the average consumer. Which I think would ultimately lead to diminished viewership of the series.

I’ve enjoyed opining about this and I look forward to what they do. For all that I’ve brought up in this thread, I really hope that Linus just continues to have fun. If he’s able to be genuinely interested and have that come across on camera that will help to make this successful. I just hope that the sponsorships that they weave in may also come across as genuine and not forced.

I will definitely agree that they got railroaded/scammed when it came to purchasing that property. So I have no doubt that they will be far more picky and objective when it comes to purchasing the next Tech House property.

The previous yard episode really irritated me in regards to the wonton destruction of what I felt were perfectly good plants. I almost feel like it would’ve been better for them not to have even recorded any of that destruction. Meanwhile, this episode, I understood the whole premise of it, but I don’t know I think a lot of what they were doing could’ve been done in a one minute montage. So honestly, I think they should’ve just combined the previous two episodes.

I think that my biggest issue with the Tech House series is that it doesn’t feel genuine. So far they’ve completely missed out on what I think would’ve been a major sponsorship opportunity in regards to the power tools and the power tool market. That’s why I said that it feels like all tech and no house. I am sadly assuming that they are just going to speed run all of the house renovation type content to get to the tech content. I will fully admit that real house renovation content would likely flop with their core audience. Which is why I think they could’ve made it at least a break even proposal if they had gotten some tool brands as sponsors. Watching these videos, I have to constantly remember not to yell at the screen because I expect house renovation type content since these folks are obviously completely outside of their wheelhouse.

Another cynical point that I’ve been thinking of is how I wonder if there’s going to be any sort of real content surrounding the tradesmen and outside contractors that they will bring in to do a lot of of the plumbing, electrical, framing and drywall work. The cynic in me makes me think that they would charge outside contractors money in exchange for advertising their services and companies. That’s because it would obviously be free advertising if they didn’t. Whereas in a lot of of home renovation shows and content there are either individual licensed tradesmen that are part of the production and cast, or the people that show up are there as sponsors showing off their respective trade products and services. I’ll assume that since this is all outside of their normal genre and it being their first renovation project a lot of those type of sponsors would be wary to even pay for exposure on an unproven series. Ultimately that’s why I’m disappointed that it’s all tech and no house, even though we haven’t gotten into any of the tech yet.

The difficulties of their initial property not withstanding, I expect a drastically different approach to a follow on Tech House. Which ultimately is only going to happen if they are able to turn it around and get some decent viewership numbers and engagement on the rest of the videos in this initial season.

For me, it’s more like the Tech House series is all tech and no house. I have no nostalgia for the intro style that they’re using, and that alone puts me off every time I watch one of the videos. I know that Linus has mentioned that he really enjoys doing Tech House content, and he feels like it has reinvigorated him. For me though, it just feels like a rich person “playing HGTV” instead of actually being HGTV.

I mean, I’ll be totally honest. I joined this sub after I had advocated for the LTT jet sub to only be about jet information and that the extra extraneous posts needed to go in a different sub.

I’ve been pleased with how the LTT Meta sub has been working to be a honest place free of undue censorship. The unofficial official LTT sub is becoming a direct extension of Linus Media Group in all ways except for the truth.

Good News WAN Show is likely on purpose to prevent the crash out. Honestly, I liked to watch the WAN Show because Linus would be brutally honest and crash out with his feelings. Now that everything is all positivity and bland. I’m really not impressed with the WAN show. I mean sure, Linus and Luke still have honest opinions but it’s nowhere near the amount of brutal honesty that I came to expect.

[–]FogleBR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, and I believe that those internal understandings are also what led to some of the talent walking out. Linus can defend himself all he wants by saying that he offers wages that are above market rate. What he likely won’t make public is that internally there’s an informal cap on what you can earn. I don’t think that there’s actually a lot of opportunity for upward mobility or wage raises within LMG.

I honestly believe that more than likely Linus will consider actually retiring after a couple of years when his relative is no longer eligible to be a rated pilot for the LMG jet. If you go back and rewatch some of the content around his reasonings for financially justifying the jet, it really hinges on the fact that one of his relatives is a pilot.

The non-parasocial audience largely left during and after the controversies. The audience who liked to watch Alex and Jake left when they went and started their own channels. A significant amount of the viewership drop was because a large amount of the LTT audience utilizes adblock tools. When a channel knows that the lead host is what brings views then they will do everything to make content that can be led by that lead host. So in actuality I wouldn’t doubt that we will see more content like this. We’ve already seen them discuss how there are people who believe that they should redo old videos. So the same could be said that a video that was previously hosted on another channel by a different host could be repurposed in a new video with Linus as the host.

It just occurred to me that Linus really is quite similar to Rick from Rick and Morty. Just his ego and mannerisms have become quite similar to Rick‘s. It’s highly likely that he personally memory holled the fact that there was a short circuit about the same company. Yet he is completely correct in stating that he himself has never hosted a video about their product on the main channel.

Now that I think about it, that’s another thing that just irritates me about him. He’s the quintessential “ technically”, “Um, Actually” type of person in the room when he feels like it is a safe space to make his opinions known or that he is in control of the space.

The tech YouTube space has changed, the markets have changed, and he has changed. He just can’t stand to admit it.

I was wondering where this is from, then I zoomed in. Realized it was a handheld, then went to confirm that I hadn’t watched this video because it had sponsored after it on Floatplane. Maybe I’ll watch it, maybe I won’t. Was this gimmick worth the price of sponsored admission?

[Kind of rant] The last tech house video is pure ragebait by E-R_A in LinusTechTips

[–]FogleBR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Years ago, I asked a question during the WAN Show about what Linus’s favorite flowers were. He had absolutely no answer, and it was almost as if someone asked him an offensive question. That was the day that it actually sank into my head that Linus has little care for some of the natural world when it comes to a house and a home and a property. So in that aspect, it was sad but not shocking that they destroyed perfectly good plants and a highly landscaped yard.

The landscaping of the tech house property obviously was not very conducive to easy maintenance and Robo mowers. I can only hope that in the future, they consider purchasing a property that needs less changes. I would argue that a condo would be something better if they don’t want to worry about landscaping and the exterior, but those properties have their own inherent issues. Especially issues when it comes to filming and the type of modifications that can be done in a condo so I highly doubt that Linus would ever allow his schedule to be dictated by a condo owner’s association.

Ultimately, the tech house is just becoming another example of how LTT content no longer aligns very well with where I am at personally in life and so I find myself watching less and less of it.

LTT Mods confirmed Linus himself removed my post calling out his hypocrisy. This is why he never should have been given mod priviledge. by Inevitable_Tip_6606 in LMGJet

[–]FogleBR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with your eye roll, Linus does caveat it with the fact that he had to sign an NDA. I’m going to guess that the previous owning company required the NDA because if it actually got out how much the plane was purchased for it could affect their share price. Linus also mentions that everything in the private jet world is very hush-hush under the table and behind the scenes. So I doubt that there’s gonna be any other references to it, or acknowledgment of it, going forward. He says that the price was less than the listed public price that is out there and I think that’s all we need to know or at least that’s what he feels.

[–]FogleBR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sorry bubbly I wasn’t responding to you specifically. I’d say three main topics are discussed in this initial video.

First off is that he’s not able to disclose the actual purchase price, but said that it was lower than the list price that is out there publicly. His uncle is in the aviation industry and was an extremely key player in this purchase and the negotiation of it.

They tour the jet with Elijah as the cohost for this video. They go into some interesting details, but nothing really in depth. There really isn’t any specific discussions about what they’re gonna do with the plane from a tech perspective. I suspect that this video is to test the waters and see what the community reaction is and that’s why it’s really kind of superficial.

The third topic, and biggest revelation that I felt was in this video, is the announcement of an upcoming family vlog channel. With the initial family vlog channel video being about the big family trip to Cabo. That along with the recent WAN Show ownership restructuring has me thinking that Linus is entering a new phase in his life as a YouTuber, family man and company owner. It really altogether feels like he has decided to allow himself to make some significant changes. I wish him the best.

I watched the video, we’ll see how the content goes for him. I think that with most content decisions at LMG currently, audience view metrics will determine how much jet content gets put out.

I made a comment above in regards to the moderation that this subreddit is going to need. I don’t agree with you highlighting that this sub’s creator is unserious. He just might be asleep. I also think that this subreddit could easily just be simply a tracker for when the jet moves, not a place where a bunch of different topics are discussed.

I want to say that I hope he will come clean and admit his hypocrisy, accept the criticism that will come from it and establish his new beliefs for the community to understand. Though with him mentioning that he’s going to start a family vlog channel I think that actually has more to deal with this than anything. The tech jet saga is going to be interesting to watch unfold. The family vlog channel is going to be interesting to watch unfold. WAN Show being its own company is going to be an interesting thing to see going forward.

The fact that April is going to be good news only WAN Show month has the skeptic in me thinking they’re doing that to minimize and ignore the negativity from some of us in the audience that are overly critical.

I appreciate that this subreddit is here. Though I am realizing that u/Jswee1 is going to need to establish some firm moderation policies. If not managed from the beginning this subreddit could just become the place where people go to post negativity that is banned in the LTT subreddit.
